170: Chapter 170 Ranking List
The young officer opened the rear car door for Song Yang.
Song Yang bent over and sat inside. The door closed behind him, isolating him from all the noise and gazes outside.
The interior was spacious yet simple; aside from necessary equipment, there were almost no extra decorations.
The jeep started smoothly and soon merged into the Shelter's main road.
Silence filled the cabin.
The officer driving kept his eyes fixed ahead, like a statue.
The man sitting beside Song Yang pulled a pack of red soft-shell cigarettes from his pocket. The two characters for "Chunghwa" remained prominent even in the dim light.
He took one out for himself, placed it in his mouth, and then handed the pack to Song Yang.
"Smoke?"
Song Yang glanced at it and reached out to take one.
The man lit his cigarette with a brass-cased lighter, took a deep drag, and then tossed the lighter to Song Yang.
Song Yang caught the lighter and lowered his head to light the cigarette. His movements were practiced, showing no hint of nervousness.
"My name is Chen Feng."
The man exhaled a thick cloud of white smoke. Amidst the swirling mist, he continued his introduction, "I am the Director of the Danan City Shelter."
"Actually, I noticed you the moment you entered the Shelter."
Chen Feng held the cigarette between his fingers, the crimson ember glowing and fading. "I knew then that you weren't an ordinary person."
"I came here today partly because I admire you, and partly to save Zhao Biao's life. That little brat is a distant relative of my wife's."
"If I let him keep acting up, he would definitely die at your hands. Since I happened to be nearby, I had no choice but to step in."
The two of them chatted as they traveled.
The car soon came to a stop.
"We're here."
Chen Feng stubbed out his cigarette and flicked it out the window.
He pushed the door open and got out. The young officer was already waiting outside and opened the door for Song Yang.
Before them stood a small Western-style villa.
The first-floor hall was noisy and chaotic.
Dozens of people were scattered in small groups. Some were gathered around a battered table playing cards; some sat alone in corners, carefully wiping strangely shaped weapons with oilcloth; others leaned back on sofas, resting with their eyes closed.
As Chen Feng entered, the noise in the hall seemed to hit a pause button, falling silent instantly.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and stood up in unison.
"Director."
"Greetings, Director."
Greetings rose one after another, brief and forceful, carrying a sense of awe that came from the heart.
Chen Feng waved his hand casually, signaling everyone to sit. Then he stepped aside, revealing Song Yang behind him.
"I'd like to introduce a new friend to everyone," his voice echoed through the hall. "Song Yang."
For a moment, everyone's gaze focused on Song Yang, filled with scrutiny and curiosity.
A burly man with a face full of scars leaning in the corner let out a "heh" and spoke in a gruff voice, breaking the silence.
"Director, this kid doesn't look like he has much ability. Is he worth you bringing him here personally?"
His words drew a few murmurs of agreement.
Chen Feng didn't get angry; he just gave the burly man a faint glance.
The man immediately shut his mouth, his eyes darting away, not daring to say more.
Only then did Chen Feng turn his gaze back to the crowd.
"Actually, this Brother Song Yang is not from our Danan City."
"You might not believe it, but he comes from Dahai City."
"Dahai City?!"
An uncontrollable wave of gasps erupted from the crowd, and the room instantly boiled over with excitement.
"Impossible! Dahai City was taken over by monsters long ago. The military broadcasts said so clearly!"
"Yeah, that place is a nest for mutant monsters now. How could anyone come out of there alive?"
Chen Feng raised his hand and pressed down slightly.
The boiling hall fell silent once again.
"Song Yang didn't come to Danan City just to beg for a meal."
"He's here to find something."
"A mysterious object."
As soon as those two words were spoken, the atmosphere in the hall shifted again.
If "Dahai City" brought shock, then "mysterious object" brought everyone the promise of power and becoming stronger.
Chen Feng looked at Song Yang, a meaningful smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
"Song Yang, you might not believe it, but every mysterious object that can be found on the surface of Danan City is currently with me."
"If you want to take something from me, you can."
"But it has to be according to my rules."
Chen Feng snapped his fingers.
Two people in the corner immediately stood up and worked together to carry a black electronic screen nearly two meters high to the center of the hall.
As the power was connected, the screen flickered, illuminating several faces with various expressions.
The screen was densely packed with names—more than fifty of them—followed by numbers arranged vertically. It was actually a ranking list.
"When the sun went out, Danan City was the first to suffer. I was lucky enough to become the first Evolver in this city."
"Later, more and more people followed me, and I became the Director here."
"What I want is not a group of useless people who only consume resources, but strong individuals who can fight alongside me to carve out a path in this apocalypse."
"Therefore, I set rules and established a contribution point system."
"If you want a mysterious object from me, you can have it."
Chen Feng pointed his finger at the golden names at the very top of the ranking list.
"The top three on the list get one chance every week to exchange for the mysterious object they want. The top five, once every two weeks. The top ten, once a month."
"If you want to obtain a mysterious object from me, what you need to do is quite simple: challenge the people on the Rankings, defeat them, squeeze into the top spots, and then come to me to exchange for your mysterious object."
Song Yang's gaze followed Chen Feng's finger and landed on the massive electronic screen.
His eyes scanned quickly from bottom to top through the dense list of names.
Soon, he saw the top of the Rankings.
Third Place: Zhou Mu, late-stage Warlord Rank.
Record: 105 Wins, 17 Losses.
A quite staggering record, with a win rate exceeding eighty-five percent.
Song Yang's gaze continued upward.
Second Place: Lin Xiao, late-stage Warlord Rank.
Record: 256 Wins, 6 Losses.
Seeing this number, Song Yang's pupils contracted slightly.
Over two hundred battles with only six losses—his strength was evident.
Finally, his gaze fixed on the very top, on the name highlighted in golden font.
First Place: Chen Feng, War God Level.
Record: 496 Wins, 0 Losses.
Four hundred and ninety-six battles, all victories, not a single defeat.
However, that wasn't what shocked Song Yang the most.
What truly took him by surprise was the line of small red text noted after Chen Feng's name.
[All of Chen Feng's matches were fought while blindfolded.]
