161: Chapter 161 The Black Dragon's Pursuit
The desire to survive overwhelmed the courage to face death, but there are always cornered beasts who, when pushed to the brink, choose to bare their long-blunted fangs.
"I'll take you down with me!"
A man with a fleshy face, seeing no way out, suddenly burst with bloody courage. He swung his machete and turned to charge at the massive creature.
The tempered steel blade struck the black dragon's forelimb with a solid thud.
"Clang!"
The man's blade chipped, and the webbing of his thumb was shaken until it bled profusely. On the black scales, however, only a faint white mark remained, so shallow it was almost negligible.
The black dragon didn't even look down at him. Its lava-like vertical pupils remained fixed on several other fleeing figures.
It merely raised a claw impatiently.
Five toes, sharp as knives, closed gently.
The man's body, along with the blade in his hand, was crushed like a cracker, organs and blood splattering across the ground.
This bloody scene completely shattered the final psychological defenses of the remaining few.
"Ahhh—!"
Brother Bao let out a scream that didn't sound human. He threw off all the odds and ends on his person and scrambled on all fours in the opposite direction of the others, wanting only to get further, even further away from that source of death.
But in the face of such absolute power, any struggle seemed pale and weak.
The black dragon's body moved.
A figure that had just run into the edge of the forest was struck by the tail, instantly turning into a mist of blood. The exploding flesh and blood stained a large patch of trees crimson.
In less than a minute, the black dragon had dealt with every living being that had been tainted with its child's blood.
It slowly lowered its head and, with the tip of its nose, gently touched the heart that had rolled into the grass and stopped beating.
A cry of grief, suppressed to the extreme, rolled in its throat, turning into a silent mourning.
But this mourning lasted only a moment.
Suddenly, it raised its hideous head. Its golden vertical pupils snapped shut, locking onto the distant surface of the sea!
There was one more.
The scent of one more intruder!
"Roar—!"
The black dragon's massive body suddenly soared into the air, tearing through the clouds and heading straight in the direction of Song Yang!
At this moment, on the pitch-black sea.
The Aircraft beneath Song Yang's feet was being driven with all his spiritual power, carving a long white trail of spray across the sea.
One thousand meters per second—this was his current limit.
This speed was already three times the speed of sound.
But Song Yang's expression didn't relax in the slightest.
He subconsciously looked back.
At the edge of his vision, the island was rapidly shrinking.
A black dot rose from the island. At first, it was just an inconspicuous speck, but in just a breath or two, that black dot expanded rapidly at a speed that defied physical common sense!
It was the black dragon!
It was coming!
Song Yang's pupils constricted. He could clearly see that the sea beneath the black dragon was being plowed open into a deep trench by the air pressure of its flight!
It was faster than him!
Much faster!
That suffocating pressure crossed several kilometers, looming over him like a shadow.
Song Yang could even see those golden vertical pupils burning with rage, locking onto him firmly.
"Zeus!"
Song Yang shouted.
No response.
Inside the system space, the guy who called himself a super intelligence chose to remain silent at this moment.
"If you want to never see Liliya again, then keep playing dead!"
Song Yang's threat was blatant.
The next second, a lazy electronic voice finally sounded in his mind.
"I was on standby. You'd better really have something huge going on."
"Behind me!"
Song Yang didn't even bother with unnecessary words. "A dragon-shaped monster is chasing me! If I'm caught, I'll be torn to pieces! Do you have any good ideas?"
Zeus's voice went silent for a moment, seemingly performing observations and analysis.
"Hurry up!"
Song Yang felt the hair on the back of his neck standing on end.
"Don't rush me!"
Zeus's voice suddenly became serious. "I need to search for anything usable within the ship. Give me two minutes! For those two minutes, don't let it touch you!"
In this pursuit where every second felt like a century, two minutes was no different from an insurmountable chasm!
Song Yang's gaze swept the surroundings.
The endless, pitch-black sea was the best flight path, yet it was also the most lethal graveyard, with nowhere to gain leverage or hide.
What should I do?
In his desperation, his vision suddenly locked onto the front left!
There, where the sea met the sky, a dark silhouette was faintly visible.
It was a vast, jagged cluster of reefs! Countless massive, oddly shaped rocks jutted out of the sea, forming a natural labyrinth.
No other choice!
Song Yang grit his teeth and suddenly veered, charging toward that deadly reef zone!
"Roar—!"
The black dragon behind him seemed to see through his intentions. It let out a world-shaking roar, its speed surged again, and it followed closely behind.
The Aircraft plunged into the Reef cluster, with countless bizarre stone pillars blocking the way.
Song Yang's nerves were strained to the limit as he maneuvered the Aircraft through the narrow passages at extreme speeds, nearly brushing against the barnacle-covered rock walls.
"Roar—!"
The black dragon's massive body couldn't navigate flexibly between these stone pillars, but it chose the most direct and brutal method.
It smashed through!
A stalagmite dozens of meters high was as fragile as a cracker before it, snapping upon impact.
The shattering boulders shot out like cannonballs, kicking up towering waves and throwing the narrow waterways into chaos.
Song Yang pulled up sharply to the left, the Aircraft narrowly squeezing through a gap between two intersecting stone pillars.
And just a second after he left, that gap was smashed apart by the black dragon.
Every second, Song Yang was dancing on the edge of a blade, dodging the Grim Reaper's scythe.
Time ticked away second by second, and the sounds of destruction from behind drew closer and closer.
Song Yang could even feel the thick scent of blood searing his back.
"Scan complete."
Song Yang's heart tightened, and he asked urgently:
"What weapon??"
"Neither."
Zeus explained, "The lorraine is low on energy, and with the damage, many weapons and equipment are unusable."
"However, in the corner of Warehouse No. 3, I found a few Survival flares."
"These flares were meant to mark its own coordinates when the lorraine crashed."
"They've been in the warehouse for thousands of years, but theoretically, they should still work."
"Roar—!"
A dragon roar more violent than any before exploded in his ears.
Song Yang suddenly looked back. The black dragon had completely destroyed the forest of reefs that had been obstructing it.
Its massive body broke through the waves, arriving behind him and opening its bloody maw.
