2: Chapter 2 The Future Where the Sun Dies
The next day.
Sunlight streamed into the room through a gap in the curtains.
Song Yang opened his eyes; the space beside him was already empty. Only a faint fragrance lingered in the air, and the slightly messy sheets served as evidence that last night was not a dream.
He stretched his slightly numb body and sat up.
His pants had been pulled down to his heels.
That dear sister actually didn't help him put his pants back on.
His gaze swept over the nightstand, where a document lay.
It was the real estate purchase contract.
On the final page of the contract, Zhang Xinmei's elegant signature was written.
He didn't linger. He quickly pulled up his pants, straightened his clothes, and rushed to the company.
Secure the commission from this sale, and then quit!
The moment he stepped out of the company, the sunlight was blinding. The streets were bustling with traffic, a scene of prosperity.
No one knew that the star hanging overhead was about to go out forever.
Just as Song Yang was rapidly calculating his subsequent plans, an emotionless mechanical voice abruptly echoed deep in his mind:
【Detected host's strong desire to survive; binding conditions met】
【Doomsday Survival System, binding...】
【Binding successful!】
Song Yang's footsteps came to a sudden halt, nearly causing him to collide with the back of a pedestrian in front of him.
He subconsciously looked left and right. People were coming and going on the morning street, and the flow of traffic was constant; no one noticed his abnormality.
It wasn't a hallucination!
That cold mechanical voice rang out again, and a translucent blue interface appeared in his consciousness like a projection:
【Doomsday Survival System】
【Host: Song Yang】
【Survival Level: Ordinary Survivor LV.0 (Experience 0/100)】
【Physical Attributes: Strength 9 / Agility 9 / Stamina 7 / Spirit 11 (Average for an ordinary adult male is 10)】
【System Warehouse: Capacity 10,000 cubic meters】
Ordinary Survivor LV.0?
Song Yang's eyes suddenly sharpened, his heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and lingering fear.
Having been reborn, his greatest advantage was his foresight, but now, he had actually obtained the kind of cheat that only existed in novels!
A 10,000-cubic-meter portable warehouse!
What did this mean?
Food, water, medicine, weapons, fuel—he could hoard massive amounts of all survival necessities without worrying about storage or transportation!
Two weeks!
There were only two weeks left until the sun went out and eternal night descended!
In his previous life, he died from the frenzied siege of starving Neighbors, a victim of the total collapse of humanity.
In this life, he would not only survive, but live even better!
To hell with work!
To hell with paying off a mortgage, getting married, and having kids.
From now on, every single second was incredibly precious.
He needed to go to the bank immediately, withdraw all his savings, use every bit of credit available, and get as much money as possible.
Then, it would be time to shop! To shop frantically!
For food, he needed to buy long-shelf-life items like compressed biscuits, canned goods, dehydrated vegetables, rice, and flour.
Drinking water would be measured in tons!
Medicine needed to cover antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, cold medicine, and trauma supplies.
Weapons might be a bit troublesome under current strict regulations, but kitchen knives, fire axes, and steel pipes could always be obtained.
Then there were warm clothes, fuel, generators...
In the future, there wouldn't be a single speck of sunlight left.
In his mind, a massive list of supplies and an action plan were rapidly being constructed and refined.
In this life, he would never leave his fate in the hands of others again!
In this apocalypse, he would build his own fortress of safety!
Song Yang suppressed the surging complex emotions in his heart and took a taxi directly to the city's largest warehouse club.
The supermarket was crowded, the background music was upbeat, and the wheels of shopping carts rattled.
Song Yang pushed more than one shopping cart, weaving quickly through the aisles with clear goals and efficient movements.
Compressed biscuits, canned food, bottled purified water, cases of instant noodles, and large bags of rice, flour, and oil—he nearly emptied the shelves.
Next were batteries, lighters, candles, warm clothing, and thick sleeping bags.
The shopping carts were piled like small mountains, drawing frequent glances from surrounding shoppers and stockers.
“What is this young man doing? Opening a wholesale store?”
“Buying so much rice, flour, oil, and water—is he crazy? Can he even finish it all?”
“Buying so much, isn't he afraid it'll expire?”
At the checkout counter, the long receipt nearly trailed onto the floor.
The young cashier scanned the items while unable to resist looking up at Song Yang, her eyes full of confusion.
Song Yang remained expressionless, acting as if he hadn't noticed the surrounding stares.
In his previous life, he cared too much about what others thought, hesitating and holding back, which ultimately led to his death.
In this life, what did the opinions of others have to do with him?
Surviving was the only goal.
After paying, he called a freight service to transport the mountain of supplies to a warehouse he had rented in advance. Then, Song Yang rushed to his next stop—outdoor gear and hardware stores.
In the early stages of the apocalypse, order would collapse, but firearm control would remain strict and difficult for ordinary people to bypass.
A sharp, sturdy mountaineering knife was a necessary melee weapon, paired with a heavy aluminum alloy baseball bat and several cans of high-concentration self-defense spray; this would be enough to handle the initial chaos.
The final stop was the pharmacy.
Song Yang handed over a densely written list detailing antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, painkillers, cold medicine, gastrointestinal medicine, as well as gauze, bandages, iodine, alcohol cotton balls, and a full set of surgical supplies.
The owner looked at the list, frowning slightly:
“Are you going somewhere dangerous? Or is someone at home unwell? This is too comprehensive. Many of these are prescription drugs; I can't give them to you according to regulations.”
Song Yang didn't waste words. He placed ten thousand yuan in cash on the table and spoke sincerely:
“I'm planning to open a small supermarket back in the countryside, so I'm bringing some common medicines for the villagers. Medical conditions in the countryside are poor and buying medicine is inconvenient. It's always good to be prepared. See, these are all common items. Could you help me out?”
The owner hesitated, looked at Song Yang—who didn't seem to be lying—then weighed the cash in his hand. Ultimately, he nodded:
“Just this once. I don't have enough of some of these in stock; I'll have to order them for you.”
“Please be as quick as possible, it's urgent,” Song Yang said.
As he walked out of the pharmacy, his phone rang. It was an unfamiliar local number.
“Hello, is this Mr. Song Yang?” a standard female customer service voice asked.
“It's me.”
“This is the Risk Control Center of XX Bank. We have monitored multiple transactions on your credit card ending in XXXX today. The total amount has reached XX thousand yuan, which far exceeds your daily spending habits. We would like to verify if these were performed by you?”
Song Yang understood; the large expenditures had triggered the risk control system.
“I made the purchases myself. There's no problem.”
“I see, Mr. Song. To ensure your account security, we need to understand the primary purpose of these expenditures for our records. Is that convenient?”
The female voice remained polite.
“Oh, I'm preparing to open a community supermarket. I've been doing centralized purchasing for stock these past few days, so the expenses are quite high.”
Song Yang fabricated a reason on the fly. He had already used this excuse at the supermarket, and it sounded reasonable enough.
The other end of the line was silent for a few seconds, seemingly recording and assessing the information.
“Alright, Mr. Song. Thank you for your cooperation. We have noted your explanation. If there are any further transaction queries, we may contact you again. Have a pleasant day.”
“Okay.”
Song Yang hung up and let out a long sigh of relief.
The money was spent, and a portion of the supplies was in place.
Step one, complete.
Next was to hurry and make his residence more secure.
