58: Chapter 58 Escaping the Community

The man's movements were frighteningly fast as he lunged with clear intent toward the lackey closest to him.

That lackey didn't even have time to react before he was firmly grabbed by Lao Wu!

"Let go of me! Lao Wu, have you gone crazy?!"

The lackey struggled in terror, his fists pounding against Lao Wu, but it was like hitting a steel plate.

In the next second, Lao Wu's mouth suddenly swung open to a terrifyingly wide degree.

Several crimson tentacles emerged from deep within his throat and bored into the lackey's mouth!

"Mmph! Mmph-mmph..."

The lackey's struggling ceased instantly, his eyes bulging so wide that they nearly popped out of their sockets.

Zheng Xiaoxiao, seeing this horrific scene, was scared out of her wits and began to scream.

Brother Hu felt a chill surge from his tailbone straight to his brain!

Fight?

Fight against this kind of monstrous thing?

He had lost his nerve! The instinct for survival overwhelmed everything else!

With a roar, he snatched up a nearby wooden chair and hurled it at Lao Wu with all his might!

"Run!"

Brother Hu shouted at the three remaining lackeys in the room and the stunned Zheng Xiaoxiao, then turned and bolted toward the door without looking back!

The remaining three lackeys snapped out of it and, ignoring their fallen companion and the eerie Lao Wu, scrambled after Brother Hu.

Zheng Xiaoxiao screamed as she stumbled along at the very back.

The group blindly rushed out of Room 103 and out of the apartment building's entrance.

But just as Brother Hu was about to catch his breath, a lackey's flashlight illuminated the scene ahead.

The once empty and silent residential complex was now filled with quite a few "people" wandering around.

Their faces were lifeless, displaying a deathly pallor.

Among them were several faces belonging to his own subordinates.

Now, they had all turned into these monstrous things!

The entire residential complex had likely fallen completely!

Escape! They had to get out of here immediately!

"Get in the car! Fast!"

Brother Hu no longer cared if he attracted other monsters; he turned and sprinted toward where the vehicles were parked.

The three remaining lackeys and Zheng Xiaoxiao were scared senseless; they didn't dare linger and followed closely behind, stumbling.

From a distance, by the beam of the flashlight, they saw two heavily armored hummer vehicles.

However, at the very moment they drew near—

*Vroom—*

The engine of one of the off-road vehicles suddenly roared to life, and its headlights snapped on.

Immediately after, the vehicle performed a tail flick without hesitation and sped off toward the residential complex's main gate!

The blurred silhouette of the person in the driver's seat flashed by in profile!

"Song Yang!"

Zheng Xiaoxiao shrieked.

That damned Song Yang!

He was actually here too, and he had taken the lead by driving away first!

Brother Hu's eyes turned bloodshot, but he had no time to curse Song Yang now.

The other vehicle was still there!

"Quick! Get in!"

He was the first to reach the remaining off-road vehicle, wrenching open the driver's side door and slamming into the seat, his hands trembling as he fumbled for the keyhole.

Two lackeys also scrambled to pull open the rear doors.

Zheng Xiaoxiao fell behind; she had just reached the passenger side and reached out for the door handle.

Several figures suddenly lunged out from the shadows! Their speed was astonishing!

The monsters firmly grabbed Zheng Xiaoxiao's ankles and calves!

Caught off guard, Zheng Xiaoxiao was dragged backward by a massive force, and she clung to the car door for dear life.

"Save me! Brother Hu! Save me!"

Brother Hu saw more "human" silhouettes closing in on the vehicle from all directions, and his heart leaped into his throat.

Save her?

That thought only flickered in Brother Hu's mind for a second before being completely submerged by boundless terror!

If he saved this woman now, he would die here too!

"Let go! You bitch!"

With a twisted expression, Brother Hu looked at Zheng Xiaoxiao, who was clinging to the door and refusing to let go. He raised his hard-soled leather shoe and kicked savagely at her hand and face!

Zheng Xiaoxiao's face was instantly bloodied; nosebleed and tears gushed out together. The intense pain made her scream, but the instinct for survival made her grip even tighter!

She couldn't let go; letting go meant death!

"Brother Hu! Please! Save me!"

"Get the hell away from me!"

Brother Hu's eyes were bloodshot; this woman was just a burden. If he took her, no one would escape!

Seeing those "people" about to surround him, he hardened his heart and stopped hesitating.

He pulled a short knife from his waist and, without even looking, stabbed it forcefully into the back of Zheng Xiaoxiao's hand that was gripping the door!

The short knife pierced through Zheng Xiaoxiao's palm; she shrieked, and her fingers lost their strength.

Seizing the opportunity, Brother Hu kicked Zheng Xiaoxiao away, sending her tumbling to the ground. He quickly pulled his leg back, slammed the door shut, and stomped on the accelerator!

The off-road vehicle let out a roar and sped toward the only path out of the residential complex!

Zheng Xiaoxiao lay on the ground, blood gushing from the back of her hand, her chest aching and her face stinging with heat.

But none of this compared to the icy despair rising from the depths of her heart.

She had been abandoned.

Completely and utterly abandoned.

Tears flowed uncontrollably, blurring her vision.

Pale, eerie faces and hollow, lifeless eyes were staring at her.

It's over...

Zheng Xiaoxiao closed her eyes in despair.

In the next second, she felt something grab her neck.

Then, there were more...

Countless crimson, slimy tentacles emerged from the mouths and eye sockets of those "people," covering her limp body on the ground!

On the street, the hummer vehicle was accelerating rapidly.

Song Yang gripped the steering wheel, staring intently at the small patch of darkness torn open by the headlights.

In the rearview mirror, those "human" silhouettes were in hot pursuit, their speed unbelievably fast, nearly matching the speeding hummer vehicle!

Xiao Xue and Bai Jie huddled in the back seat, not daring to look at the scene outside the window.

"Hold on tight!"

Song Yang growled.

He jerked the steering wheel, and the hummer vehicle let out a piercing screech of tires as it narrowly avoided the wreckage of an overturned car in the middle of the road.

"They're still following us!"

Xiao Xue glanced behind the car, her heart sinking.

A dull thud came from the roof, followed by a sharp scraping sound!

From the corner of his eye, Song Yang saw a pale face suddenly pressed against the reinforced car window!

The face was completely lifeless, the eye sockets hollow, and the mouth curled into an eerie grin.

Then, from the roof and the rear, came continuous thuds and scratching sounds!

More than one monster had jumped onto the vehicle!

"Hold on!"

Song Yang stopped blindly speeding forward.

He wrenched the steering wheel all the way to the left and slammed on the brakes!

*Screech—*

The tires screeched against the ground, and the massive inertia sent Xiao Xue and Bai Jie lunging forward, though they were fortunately caught by their seatbelts.

The hummer vehicle's body swung violently, nearly turning sideways!

The monsters clinging to the roof and rear were caught off guard, losing their balance from the sudden braking and tail flick!

Before they could regain their footing, Song Yang had already shifted into reverse and floored the accelerator!

*Roar—!*

The hummer vehicle's engine erupted in a roar, and the heavy chassis surged backward!

The monsters that had just been disoriented, with a few even having fallen to the ground behind the vehicle, had no time to react!

The heavy off-road tires crushed them mercilessly, the sounds of shattering bones and mangled flesh clearly audible.

Without even looking at the bloody mess in the rearview mirror, Song Yang quickly shifted back into drive and stomped on the gas again.

The steering wheel straightened out, and the hummer vehicle roared as it continued to charge forward along the briefly cleared road!
