63: Principal's Gift

"Hello, Principal."

Chen Du opened the door and said respectfully.

Li Mu and Chen Du had only met a few times, specifically twice.

One was when he went to Mayor Wang's office, and the other was during the Hundred Cities Championship.

For students, the entire process of such a competition is important, but for the position of Principal, only the result matters.

Not only did he watch the entire competition, but when the commentator announced him as the champion at the end, he was the first to stand up and applaud.

To be honest, Chen Du was very touched.

"Chen Du, I hope I'm not disturbing you by coming at this hour."

After a few polite exchanges, Li Mu took out a small, exquisitely packaged gift box:

"This is a small gift for you, something I specifically bought for your situation. Consider it my thanks!"

"Gift? Thanks?"

These two everyday words now seemed incredibly foreign in Chen Du's mind.

Chen Du didn't take it, but instead showed a puzzled look. When had he ever helped the Principal?

Li Mu wasn't surprised by this and explained with a smile:

"Because of your appearance, Mayor Wang and I had a little hope for this Hundred Cities Championship."

"However, this hope wasn't very big, just for the top ten."

"But you not only exceeded our expectations, you also broke Liang City's record!"

"Before you, Liang City's best historical performance in the Hundred Cities Championship was only in the top ten."

After speaking, he pointed to the medal Chen Du had placed on the table:

"This medal is commonplace, or rather, expected, at Hai City No. 1 High School."

"But at Liangcheng No. 1 High School, it is the highest honor!"

"It undoubtedly increases the school's competitiveness, attracting students from nearby cities."

"They will prioritize us when choosing a school because of this."

"It's a significant highlight on your resume, and it's a step up in my career."

"Tell me, shouldn't I thank you?"

Chen Du understood upon hearing this.

According to regulations, the winner of the Hundred Cities Championship medal can hold it for 7 days.

After seven days, it needs to be handed over to the respective school.

To put it simply, the seven-day period is a "show-off period," allowing you to gain Face in front of friends, family, and relatives.

And after seven days, you won't be as keen on "showing off" because your vanity will have been satisfied.

Your enthusiasm for the medal will become a bit dull.

At this point, when you hand the medal over to the school, your glory will continue to spread!

It is said that these regulations were concocted by those who studied psychology at Liberal Arts universities.

Chen Du naturally didn't think that deeply; just showing this medal to his parents was enough, so he threw it directly on the table after returning.

He planned to hand it in according to the procedure after seven days.

Only then did he accept the gift and express his thanks.

Chen Du's upbringing taught him that there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Before knowing the reason, he wouldn't accept unearned favors, even from people he knew.

After handing the gift to Chen Du, Li Mu walked to the refrigerator in the corner as if he were at home, familiar with the layout.

He took out two bottles of sports drink, walked over to Chen Du, and offered him one:

"Are you satisfied with this Martial Arts Room of mine?"

"This is your Martial Arts Room, Principal?"

Chen Du was stunned for a moment. He only knew that this Martial Arts Room was numbered 001, and that it was very luxurious and well-equipped.

He had assumed this was standard for wealthy individuals, never expecting it to be the Principal's Martial Arts Room!

No one had ever told him this!

This made Chen Du always believe that Martial Arts Rooms just looked like this.

Li Mu took a sip of the sports drink in his hand and smiled:

"What's yours or mine? These were all built with taxpayer money, merely a temporary right of use granted to me by the High Martial Civilization."

Chen Du's Martial Soul was shaken upon hearing this. As expected of someone who could be a Principal!

His words immediately showed his broad perspective!

Looking at Chen Du, who was routinely shocked by him, Li Mu spoke again:

"After the Hongzhi Class selection, Ling Yun immediately sent me your report."

"We both agreed that you are a rare and promising talent!"

"However, your score at the time was second place, and according to regulations, you couldn't enter the Hongzhi Class."

"This regulation stems from the fact that the school only prepared 30 Martial Arts Rooms for the Hongzhi Class."

"But how could your talent be buried by such a thing?"

At this point, Li Mu suddenly raised his voice and patted Chen Du's shoulder:

"Seeing you, I feel like I'm seeing my younger self!"

"It's just a few months' use of a Martial Arts Room!"

Chen Du felt a touch of emotion in his eyes after hearing this.

The Principal had been silently supporting him from behind all along!

The two then chatted about school matters.

"Chen Du, why are your clothes so dirty, like you've been rolling on the Surface?"

Li Mu said casually.

Clothes...

Chen Du heard the words 'clothes' and 'rolling' and was silent for a few seconds:

"I accidentally fell on the way to school."

"Is that so? The road must have been quite slippery then."

Looking at Li Mu, who was talking to himself, Chen Du looked up, as if he had made a decision, his eyes serious:

"Principal, you mentioned the Hongzhi Class selection earlier, and it just reminded me of something."

Chen Du's expression gradually became serious; he decided to ask a somewhat difficult question.

Looking at Li Mu, who was waiting for him to continue, Chen Du didn't hesitate and went on:

"I want to know about Xia Yang's death at the hands of the Hunter Civilization."

"Why was there no media coverage at all, and why can't I even find anything when I search?"

"This is a human Life!"

After a few seconds of silence, Li Mu spoke, not answering, but instead asking:

"Chen Du, why are you interested in this matter?"

"Because..."

Chen Du's expression showed struggle, and after much hesitation, he still recounted his encounter with the Hunter Civilization that evening.

Although Hu Qiang had instructed him not to spread information about foreign races, there were only himself and the Principal present now, so it shouldn't count as spreading, right?

"Silver Demon? You encountered an 8-level Silver Demon?"

Li Mu's eyes widened immediately upon hearing this, his Face showing extreme shock.

His previous composed demeanor vanished in an instant, and he quickly asked with concern:

"Are you injured anywhere?!"

"No wonder your clothes are so dirty, and you lied to me about falling!"

Chen Du felt a warmth in his heart from Li Mu's somewhat angry tone.

The Principal truly was a good person who cared about his students!

He then shook his head: "I'm fine, Principal. I just want to know now."

"Why do foreign races appear in the city where we live?"

"If it were a disaster on the scale of an invasion, I could understand, but in broad daylight and a peaceful world."

"He just appeared in front of me."

"And it was a Hunter Civilization, known for stealth and sneak attacks; it's simply... inconceivable."

"This should be a very serious matter, shouldn't it?"

"Why has the media never reported it, including Xia Yang's death?"

"It's like something is being deliberately concealed."

"Only today did I realize that the city we live in, even before an invasion, doesn't seem to be absolutely safe."

"Is there... some secret behind all this?"

Chen Du's heart rate quickened after he finished speaking.

His intuition told him that a veil seemed to have always been obstructing him, or all students!

Looking at Chen Du, who was eager to know the truth, Li Mu blinked, thought for a moment, and then spoke:

"The answer to this question is both a secret and not a secret."

"It's a secret in that only Martial Artists and those above them are allowed to know."

"Your Mental Energy is currently level 10, which barely qualifies you as a Mental Energy Martial Artist."

"Telling you wouldn't be a violation."

Li Mu finished speaking, and seeing the desire and thirst for knowledge in Chen Du's eyes, he said:

"For the stability of society!"
