Mysterious woman
"When I first came down, I went to check the ambulance. Besides the two medical staff members, there was no one else inside."
Li Wei's tone was very certain.
"Impossible! I saw him being carried into the ambulance with my own eyes!"
"That's because you didn't look carefully."
Li Wei pointed to a spot not far away.
"Those kind-hearted citizens who rescued the medical staff can testify."
Upon hearing Li Wei's words, those citizens nodded one after another.
"That's right, Officer. When we pulled the ambulance doors open, there were only these two doctors inside. There was absolutely no one else!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. We were actually wondering about that too. Wasn't it said that a suspect was receiving treatment? Why were there only two medical staff members?"
Qin Bing was completely stunned.
If Lin Tianhao wasn't in the vehicle, then where did he go?
Could it be... that he took advantage of the chaos from the car accident to escape?
But the scene had already been preliminarily secured by the police, and there were people everywhere.
Furthermore, the ambulance had suffered a violent collision.
As a seriously injured person wearing handcuffs with a fractured wrist, how could he possibly vanish into thin air in front of everyone's eyes?
Li Wei didn't speak. The eerie feeling in his heart had already reached its peak the moment the ambulance exploded.
This was too deliberate.
The collision. The explosion.
Everything was like a rehearsed play on stage, one link after another, as if the purpose was to create the illusion of Lin Tianhao's "accidental death."
His gaze swept across the scene rapidly, like a high-speed precision instrument, not missing a single detail.
The two "medical staff members" who had been rescued and were currently lying on the ground unconscious.
The ambulance that had been smashed to pieces.
The position where the ambulance was parked...
Wait!
Li Wei's gaze suddenly locked onto those two "medical staff members," and then he looked at the spot where the ambulance was parked.
A flash of inspiration suddenly struck his mind.
A bold conjecture rapidly took shape in his mind.
He pulled the still-dazed Qin Bing and walked quickly to the side of the two unconscious medical staff members.
"Qin Bing, look at their clothes."
Li Wei pointed at the white coats on the two people.
"This is the uniform of the Shen City People's Hospital Rescue Center. Is there a problem?"
Qin Bing frowned, puzzled.
"I'm not asking you about the clothes."
"I'm talking about standard staffing protocols."
"An ambulance crew usually has at least three people."
"A driver, an emergency doctor, and a Nurse."
Li Wei's voice was calm and steady.
"Judging by their attire and the first-aid kits they were carrying, one is a doctor and one is a Nurse. That part is fine."
"But the question is... where is the driver?"
Qin Bing was not a fool; she instantly understood what Li Wei meant, and her expression changed.
"You mean... the driver is suspicious?"
"More than just suspicious."
Li Wei sneered, "If I'm not mistaken, that driver was Lin Tianhao's man from the very beginning."
"He disguised himself as an emergency worker and, right under your noses, coordinated an inside job."
Qin Bing's heart sank.
She recalled how cooperative Lin Tianhao had been when she led the team to arrest him.
Normally, a person would at least try to plead their case.
But he had been surprisingly calm when she took him away.
So, he had already foreseen everything.
"Also,"
Li Wei continued.
"Didn't I warn you that there was an inside man within your police force?"
"Otherwise, it would be impossible to arrange a fake driver and this semi-trailer truck to create chaos in such a short time."
"That requires precise timing and information transmission."
Qin Bing pressed her lips into a thin line.
She actually had a premonition about the traitor, but she hadn't expected the other party's actions to be so swift and brazen.
"But... even if the driver is fake, where did Lin Tianhao and that fake driver go?"
"They couldn't have just vanished into thin air, could they?"
Qin Bing's mind was a mess, but she still keenly pointed out the key point.
"Of course not."
Li Wei didn't answer; instead, he took her by the arm and walked to the ambulance that was now nothing but a wreck.
There was a large hole in the ambulance.
With the building security guards using fire hoses to extinguish the fire with all their might.
The fire was gradually dying down.
The flames scorched the ground, still emitting a sizzling sound.
Li Wei didn't care about that; braving the heatwave, he pointed to the ground directly beneath the ambulance.
There, a pitch-black manhole cover was half-open.
Anyone who didn't know better would think it had been flipped over by the shockwave of the explosion.
And the position of the ambulance was neither too much nor too little.
It perfectly covered the manhole cover.
At this moment, the truth was revealed.
As Qin Bing looked at the manhole cover, she felt a chill shoot from the soles of her feet straight to her scalp.
What a brilliant ploy of escaping like a cicada shedding its skin!
From creating chaos with a collision, to medical staff disguising themselves to attract attention, to blowing up the vehicle to completely destroy evidence, and finally escaping through the sewer.
This entire plan was simply seamless!
"Quick! Give me your phone!"
Qin Bing snapped out of her daze and said urgently to Li Wei.
"Didn't I tell you there was a traitor inside? You still dare to report this?"
Li Wei was a bit puzzled.
"No time to explain!"
Qin Bing's tone was filled with anxiety and a hint of imperceptible relief.
"This time, I owe you a favor! You've performed a meritorious service!"
She paused, seemingly feeling that some things had to be clarified, but due to discipline, she could only vaguely add:
"Don't worry about the traitor. I was prepared, and everything is still under control."
Hearing Qin Bing's explanation.
Li Wei didn't ask any more questions and readily handed over the phone.
This time, Qin Bing didn't dial the number for the Command Center from earlier; instead, she quickly pressed a string of strange, seemingly random numbers.
The call was answered quickly.
"Master, it's me."
Qin Bing's voice returned to its usual calmness, even carrying a hint of the respect typical of a subordinate reporting to a superior.
Li Wei stood beside her and could faintly hear a woman's voice coming from the other end of the phone.
The voice was very young, cold like a block of ancient, unmelted ice, without the slightest emotional fluctuation.
"Report the situation."
Only three words.
"Report! Lin Tianhao has escaped like a cicada shedding its skin, fleeing through the sewer."
"A suspected accomplice was found at the scene, using the cover of an ambulance driver."
"The vehicle involved in the accident was a cloned semi-trailer truck, and the driver has been subdued..."
Qin Bing quickly gave a brief report of the situation at the scene and Li Wei's findings.
"Requesting support. Immediately seal off all sewer exits within a five-kilometer radius of Tianhao Building and conduct a comprehensive search!"
"In addition, I suggest immediately checking all major highways and shipping entry and exit points to prevent the suspect from fleeing!"
There was silence on the other end of the line for a few seconds, as if the person was thinking.
"Approved."
Still the same two cold words.
"Your mission remains unchanged. Continue to follow up on the scene. Someone will contact you for follow-up."
"Yes!"
The call was hung up.
Li Wei looked at Qin Bing, feeling a strong interest in the identity of the woman on the other end of the phone.
To be able to make this proud leopard, Qin Bing, so respectful—judging by that tone, her position must be quite high.
And listening to the voice, she didn't seem to be much older than Qin Bing.
This was getting interesting.
