Black Shield: End of War

Outside the nursing home, the green trees provided ample shade.

There happened to be a camphor tree right outside the bathroom.

At this moment, two Sparrows were tilting their heads, looking curiously at the louvered window that wasn't tightly closed.

"Chirp, chirp, look, look! That pretty two-legged beast is squatting down. What is she doing?"

A young-looking Sparrow fluttered its wings and asked its companion.

The other Sparrow was clearly more experienced; it preened its feathers and spoke in the tone of a veteran bird.

"Idiot, that's feeding."

"Feeding? But I don't see any bugs?" The little Sparrow was even more confused.

"That's not feeding bugs with a mouth, it's feeding with a hand."

The old Sparrow explained.

"Look at that female two-legged beast; she's squatting on the ground, using her hand to feed that male two-legged beast a... well, a very strange kind of food."

"And look, she's feeding him so earnestly, her head moving up and down just like us pecking at rice."

The little Sparrow nodded, only half-understanding.

"Oh... then why does that male two-legged beast look like he's in a lot of pain?

He keeps gasping."

"That's not pain, that's enjoyment."

The old Sparrow gave it a sidelong glance.

"Just like when we find a particularly plump bug and swallow it in one gulp, we also tremble with comfort."

"Is that so?"

The little Sparrow still didn't quite understand.

"But why do I still hear that female two-legged beast making very strange whimpering sounds?

It sounds like her neck is being squeezed."

"Ahem,"

The old Sparrow cleared its throat.

"That's... that's because the food is too big, and she's choking a little. It's very normal."

"Oh..."

Half an hour later, Li Wei walked out of the bathroom feeling refreshed.

He gave Qin Xue some instructions and then left the nursing home under her resentful gaze.

The next morning.

Sunlight streamed through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of Seaview No. 1, splashing golden spots of light onto the mirror-like marble floor.

In the open kitchen, Li Wei was wearing a cartoon-patterned apron, skillfully frying eggs in a pan.

Sizzle—

The eggs quickly took shape in the hot olive oil, their edges turning a beautiful scorched yellow. The rich aroma mixed with the mellow scent wafting from the nearby coffee machine and the wheaty fragrance from the toaster, composing the most moving symphony of the morning.

By the dining table.

Yang Weiwei, dressed in pink silk pajamas, was propping up her exquisite chin with one hand, watching Li Wei's busy back with boredom.

She sat with her legs crossed, a fair and tender little foot peeking out from a fluffy slipper. Her rounded, cute toes gently hooked the edge of the slipper, swaying back and forth, tracing graceful arcs in the morning light.

"Brother-in-law, what are you making? It smells so good~"

Yang Weiwei's voice carried a hint of laziness, so soft and sweet it made one's heart tingle.

"Poached eggs."

Without looking back, Li Wei used the spatula to precisely flip the sunny-side-up egg and teased casually.

"Weiwei, go call your sister down, otherwise there won't be any left for her."

"I don't want to."

Yang Weiwei pouted and leaned on the table in a more comfortable position.

"Sister was drawing sketches until midnight yesterday; she's definitely not awake yet."

"Let her sleep a bit longer. Anyway, I can help her finish her portion!"

As she spoke, she even patted her flat belly with mock seriousness.

Li Wei was amused.

He turned off the heat, put the fried breakfast onto plates, and brought them over.

One was placed in front of Yang Weiwei.

The other was placed at the empty seat opposite her.

"That won't do."

Li Wei took off his apron, sat down across from her, picked up his knife and fork, and began slowly cutting the sausage on his plate.

"Your sister took care of me a few days ago, and these past few days she's been working on that joint jewelry design. She's lost a lot of weight. If she doesn't eat breakfast properly, I'll be worried."

"Eee~"

Yang Weiwei immediately let out an exaggerated teasing sound, winking at Li Wei.

"I know, I know. I'll go be your messenger right now."

She jumped off the chair, scuffed her slippers, and ran upstairs.

A few minutes later.

A set of sluggish footsteps came from the stairs.

Yang Yun, wearing one of his white shirts and rubbing her messy long wavy hair, walked down while yawning.

The hem of the shirt was quite long, just covering the top of her thighs, revealing a pair of straight, well-proportioned, and dazzlingly white long legs.

She had clearly just been forcibly dragged out of bed. Her usually bright and moving face still held a trace of sleep-deprived daze.

But this lazy appearance, rather than detracting from her beauty, added a rare touch of innocence and charm.

"Haa~ I'm so sleepy..."

Yang Yun walked to the dining table and plopped down. Without even looking at the breakfast on the table, she first picked up the milk and took a large gulp.

"Li Wei, why did you call me so early in the morning? I'm exhausted."

She complained, her voice husky with a heavy nasal tone.

"I made you a breakfast of love, and yet it still can't shut your mouth."

Li Wei used a fork to feed a small piece of cut sausage to her lips.

Yang Yun subconsciously opened her mouth and ate the sausage.

The aroma of the food finally cleared her muddled brain a bit.

"At least you have some conscience."

She gave Li Wei a look, then finally picked up her knife and fork and began to tackle the breakfast on her plate in small bites.

"By the way,"

Yang Yun seemed to remember something, "Qin Xue called me yesterday."

"She said everything is fine at the nursing home. Her mother's vital signs are stable, and her mental state is improving every day. The doctor said she should wake up within a couple of days."

"That's good."

Li Wei nodded, feeling relieved.

"However..."

Yang Yun changed the subject, a hint of worry appearing on her face.

"That best friend of mine is truly a workaholic. She has to stay with her mother at the nursing home while staying up late to finish design sketches. I'm really afraid her body won't be able to take it."

"Our joint jewelry line will have its launch ceremony simultaneously at Mi Cai's Zhuomei Shopping Center and Sister Wan's mall in a few days. The schedule is too tight."

"It's fine. Once her mother wakes up, she'll be able to relax completely,"

Li Wei comforted her.

Yang Yun nodded. While eating breakfast, her gaze fell on Li Wei.

"Are you... going out today?"

"Yeah." Li Wei took a sip of milk, not hiding it.

"Zhao Anqi just called me. The preliminary screening at Black Shield Security has ended. Today is the final round of practical combat assessment."

"As the big boss behind the scenes, I have to show my face and help oversee things."

Yang Yun raised her eyelids, a hint of doubt flashing in her somewhat lazy eyes.

Li Wei wiped his mouth with a napkin and leaned back in his chair, appearing relaxed and casual.

"The matter of getting you personal bodyguards should be put on the agenda."

He looked at the pair of sisters before him, who had different styles but were equally beautiful. His voice was calm, but the content was significant.

"Black Shield Security is something I've invested a lot of money into. The people there are top-tier retired special forces and security experts that Zhao Anqi recruited from all over the world with high salaries."

"Today is the day of their final battle."

"So, I plan to personally oversee it and then select a few of the best fighters to come back and be your personal bodyguards."
