I actually made excuses for him.

As soon as Li Wei finished speaking, the atmosphere at the dining table changed instantly.

"Wow!"

Yang Weiwei's eyes lit up instantly, and she jumped up from her chair in excitement.

"Is it like in the movies?"

"The kind wearing black suits and sunglasses, looking cool, saying very little, but being incredibly good at fighting?"

Yang Weiwei's face was filled with curiosity and longing, as if she had already begun to fantasize about the impressive scene of having two cool guys following behind her.

Unlike her younger sister's excitement, Yang Yun's brow furrowed slightly.

She put down her knife and fork, her expression somewhat complex.

"Li Wei, there's no need for such a big production, is there?"

"We're usually just at home or going to the Studio; it's very safe."

She was an independent modern woman at heart; having someone follow her twenty-four hours a day made her feel uneasy, as if she were being monitored.

"Safe?"

He looked at Yang Yun with a serious expression.

"Yun Yun, have you forgotten about Lü Xiangdong? And Blue Harbor was a lesson learned the hard way..."

He didn't finish his sentence.

The terrifying scene from that night clearly surfaced in the sisters' minds.

The excitement on Yang Weiwei's face instantly vanished, replaced by a pale look of lingering fear.

Yang Yun also fell silent, her hand holding the soy milk tightening unconsciously.

Yes, how could she forget?

Li Wei was seriously injured.

Qin Bing had been injected with a Hallucinogen.

If Li Wei hadn't gone to Blue Harbor with them, Qin Bing might have become nothing more than a beast driven only by lust by now.

"I've put you through a lot lately."

Li Wei's voice carried a hint of apology.

"Because of me, you don't even dare to step out the door and have to stay cooped up at home."

"I can't be by your side twenty-four hours a day."

"So, I must provide you with the highest level of protection."

He held up two fingers.

"At least two for each person."

"Twenty-four-hour close protection on shifts. Whether you want to go shopping or go to school, they will ensure your absolute safety."

Li Wei looked at them, his words powerful and resonant.

"Why should my, Li Wei's, women have to hide at home like prisoners?"

"From now on, go wherever you want and do whatever you want."

"When you go out, walk like you own the place!"

Walk like you own the place!

These words were overbearing and flamboyant, yet they were filled with an irresistible sense of security.

Yang Yun's heart felt as if it had been struck hard by something.

She looked at the man before her, into his eyes that were full of sincerity.

This man was sometimes so roguish he made one's teeth itch, and other times so overbearing he made one's heart race in confusion.

Yet, he could always hold up the sky for you and solve all your problems when you needed him most.

What else could she say?

"Are you trying to keep us like canaries or serve us like queens?"

A touching curve finally returned to the corners of Yang Yun's mouth.

She gave Li Wei a reproachful look, but her eyes were filled with unmistakable tenderness and sweetness.

"Queens, of course."

Li Wei answered without hesitation, his familiar smile returning to his face.

"Canaries are too fragile; I prefer you both as you are now—one stunningly beautiful and the other lively and cute."

"Smooth talker!"

Yang Yun scoffed, but her heart was as sweet as honey.

"Brother-in-law is the best!"

Yang Weiwei cheered again.

She ran behind Li Wei, reached out her arms to hug his neck from behind, and affectionately rubbed her cheek against his.

"Then... what about Qin Xue, Qin Bing, and Murong Wan?"

The young girl looked up and asked, blinking her large eyes.

"They'll have them too, of course."

Li Wei rubbed her small head.

"Every one of you will have protection; no one will be left out."

As he spoke, he stood up, kissed Yang Weiwei's fragrant cheek, and squeezed Yang Yun's soft, delicate hand.

Only then did he pick up a pre-prepared thermal bag and walk out of the villa, leaving the two sisters with blushing faces.

The early morning air carried a hint of salty sea breeze... at a corner not far from the gate of Li Wei's villa.

Inside a semi-old domestic BYD, Qin Bing sat expressionless, gripping the steering wheel with an invisible Bluetooth headset in her ear.

"Qin Bing, I've looked over the action report you submitted yesterday."

On the other end of the line was the voice of her colleague, Wang Li, his tone carrying a hint of caution.

"It's too brief."

"You stayed at the Sanatorium for over five hours, but the report only said 'accompanied family, observed target'—just those few words."

"It's hard to explain to Captain Yan, you understand? You'd better report the specific details in full."

A detailed report?

Qin Bing's breath hitched for a moment.

In her mind, scenes from yesterday afternoon in that bathroom uncontrollably flashed by—scenes so shameful she wanted to die.

That man's burning chest, his aggressive gaze, and herself... how was she supposed to report all that?

Qin Bing's fingers tightened on the steering wheel.

"There's nothing else to report."

Her voice was colder than the morning breeze outside.

"My mother is critically ill, and Li Wei is treating her. As a family member, I accompanied him the whole time. Is there a problem?"

"No, no!"

Startled by her icy tone, Wang Li quickly explained.

"Sister Bing, you know I didn't mean it that way; we all believe you! It's just... just a bit hard to understand."

"Isn't Li Wei himself seriously injured? I heard that after his fight with Lü Xiangdong, he almost lost his life."

"His own injuries haven't even fully healed in just ten days, so how... how does he still have the ability to treat someone else?"

Wang Li's doubt was reasonable.

This was also what Qin Bing hadn't been able to figure out before.

But now, she knew.

This man simply couldn't be judged by common sense.

After a moment of silence, Qin Bing realized she was actually making excuses for that bastard.

This was a first.

"He's very noble-minded."

After a long while, she squeezed those words out from between her teeth.

"He said saving a life is like fighting a fire; he couldn't just stand by and watch someone die just because he's injured."

On the other end, Wang Li was clearly stunned.

He probably hadn't expected the always icy Qin Bing to praise someone like this.

Just then.

"Knock, knock."

The car window next to the driver's seat was tapped twice, neither too hard nor too soft.

Qin Bing's whole body stiffened, and she whipped her head around.
