Enraging Yan Ruyu
"Stop talking nonsense!"
There was a slight tremor in Yan Ruyu's voice.
"Am I talking nonsense?"
Li Wei smiled.
Earlier, the Detection Technique's scan of Yan Ruyu's personality had revealed perfectionism.
He had just asked a casual rhetorical question earlier.
He hadn't expected to actually test something out.
"Officer Yan, do you dare to place your hand on your heart and say that your feelings for Qin Bing are truly just a simple master-disciple relationship?"
"The reason you reject me so much and are so wary of me isn't just because of the mysteries surrounding me, but more because my appearance has disrupted your plans."
"Shut up!"
Yan Ruyu slammed her hand onto the cabinet beside the bed, causing the water cup on top to jump and let out a crisp clink. Her chest heaved violently, and for the first time, a crack appeared on that face which was always covered in frost—anger, shame, and a hint of embarrassment from having her thoughts exposed were all intertwined.
She had never lost her composure like this before.
Li Wei, however, was like a most experienced matador, facing a raging bull and calmly holding out the final red cloth.
"Officer Yan, you've never been married, so you might not quite understand." His voice suddenly became a bit gentler, but because of that, it seemed even more piercing. "When a man truly falls in love with a woman, or rather, when a group of women all choose the same man, the logic of things is completely different from when you're handling a case."
"It's not black and white, nor is it a simple matter of right and wrong. It's a kind of responsibility, a kind of bond."
"Yang Yun, Sister Wan, Xue'er, Weiwei... every one of them is an indispensable part of my life. I cannot, and absolutely will not, give up any of them because of anyone's threats or any so-called 'morality'."
His gaze looked burningly at Yan Ruyu, and his voice carried an indisputable declaration.
"Of course, this includes Qin Bing as well."
"You certainly have a vivid imagination!"
Yan Ruyu's voice was almost squeezed out from between her teeth.
"Qin Bing is different! She was forced! She..."
"She is different right now."
Li Wei interrupted her.
"But what about later? Officer Yan, have you ever considered what she will do once it becomes clear that an antidote can never be developed?"
Li Wei didn't continue, but his gaze already said everything.
Yan Ruyu was completely enraged.
This man not only wanted to take Qin Bing's body but also wanted to destroy her heart!
He not only wanted to be the antidote for Qin Bing's body but also the poison for her spirit!
He wasn't some knight at all; he was the most greedy and cunning dragon!
"Li Wei, I'm warning you, as long as Qin Bing is unwilling, no one can force her!"
Two clusters of cold flames ignited in Yan Ruyu's eyes.
"If you dare to force her, I guarantee you will regret it."
"Is that so?"
Li Wei didn't care about her threat at all. "Officer Yan, don't misunderstand; I'm a law-abiding citizen."
"And coincidentally."
"I'm afraid of many things, but regret isn't one of them."
Looking at the woman in front of him, who was trembling with rage yet could do nothing about him, a surge of mischievous pleasure suddenly rose in his heart.
"However, Officer Yan, I can give you a suggestion."
"What suggestion?" Yan Ruyu looked at him warily.
"If you're really that worried about Qin Bing, worried that she'll 'fall' because of me, there's actually a very simple way."
The corners of Li Wei's mouth curled into a smile.
"That is, you should join in too."
"What did you say?!"
Yan Ruyu doubted if something was wrong with her ears.
"I said,"
Li Wei said clearly, word by word.
"Instead of being on the outside like an outsider, constantly being on guard and suspicious of me."
"Why not just be straightforward and become one of them yourself."
"That way, you can monitor me twenty-four hours a day and protect your precious disciple."
"You...!"
Yan Ruyu's face instantly turned flushed red—not from shyness, but from extreme fury.
She had lived for twenty-nine years and had never seen such a brazen person!
"Of course,"
Li Wei acted as if he didn't see her murderous gaze and added to himself.
"The premise is that you don't mind. After all, I have more than one woman."
"Get out!"
A single word, containing heaven-toppling rage, erupted from Yan Ruyu's mouth.
She could no longer bear to stay with this madman.
She turned abruptly and walked quickly out of the ward.
Watching the door that had been slammed shut, the smile on Li Wei's face slowly faded.
Replacing it was a bottomless calm... In the corridor.
Yan Ruyu leaned against the cold wall, her chest still heaving violently.
That pretty face, usually covered in frost, now had an abnormal flush due to extreme anger.
Bastard!
Madman!
Shameless scoundrel!
In her heart, she hurled every negative word she could think of at Li Wei.
Having lived for twenty-nine years, for the first time, she had an urge to draw her gun and kill someone.
Especially that last sentence, "You should join in too."
That frivolous tone and that wicked smile were like a red-hot branding iron, deeply imprinted in her mind, making her feel a wave of humiliation all over.
After a long time, she finally exhaled a long breath of turbid air, forcibly suppressing the anger that almost overwhelmed her reason.
Something's not right.
Having calmed down, Yan Ruyu keenly sensed that something was amiss.
With Li Wei's deep scheming and planning abilities, he was definitely not a fool who would be swayed by emotions.
His near-insane provocation just now didn't seem like a slip of the tongue, but more like a deliberate test and disguise.
Perhaps he was intentionally enraging her?
Why?
Did he want to see her reaction, to test her bottom line?
Or did he want to use this "madman" behavior to cover up some of his deeper purposes?
Yan Ruyu's brow furrowed tightly.
This man was even more complex and dangerous than she had imagined.
She couldn't just let it go like this.
Since you want to be a madman, then I'll see just how far you can go.
Yan Ruyu's gaze returned to its icy state.
She took out her phone and dialed a number.
"Xiao Zhang, take two comrades to Ward V001 on the top floor of the Military Region General Hospital's inpatient department to conduct a routine inquiry of an important witness named Li Wei."
"Remember to be 'professional'; every question must be asked, and not a single detail can be overlooked."
"He is an important witness involving a major criminal case. Our work must be thorough."
Her voice betrayed no emotion, but the few words she deliberately emphasized carried an unquestionable chill.
A small punishment as a warning.
Didn't you complain about our police force's inefficiency?
Then I'll let you experience the police's most 'attentive' service.
After finishing the call, the foul mood in Yan Ruyu's heart was finally vented a little.
She straightened her slightly messy collar and turned to leave this place that made her feel flustered.
But as soon as she turned around, she bumped into a figure at the corner of the corridor.
Or rather, that figure had stopped there first.
Yan Ruyu's pupils suddenly constricted.
Qin Bing.
