419: Chapter 419: Disputes
The Wolf Bandits had arrived, and the faces of the commoners and guards turned deathly pale.
The wolf packs raised by the Wolf Bandits were even more robust and well-fed than ordinary wild wolves. Because they had been attacking humans for years, they were also intimately familiar with human weaknesses. It could be said they were highly experienced; facing wolves raised by the Wolf Bandits was far more terrifying than facing wild wolves.
Some large Wolf Bandit groups would even forge iron armor for their wolves, protecting their backs, abdomens, heads, and so on.
Pairs of green eyes appeared in the jungle on both sides of the road.
"They're here, those things are here." The coachman gripped his machete in terror, pressing his back tightly against the carriage to avoid being attacked from behind by the pack of wolves.
The carriages were pulled close together in a line, and the mechanisms on them were lowered to prevent the horses from panicking and dragging the carriages wildly around. These were exceptionally good horses, and for the moment, they did not panic.
As for the wolves, they hid in the jungle and, surprisingly, did not charge out immediately.
"It worked!"
The Caravan Boss was pleasantly surprised; the wolves were clearly afraid of Second Senior Brother, otherwise they would have charged long ago.
"Don't get happy too early; these wolves aren't wild."
Nie Yu poured cold water on him, though he remained confident in his ability to protect the cargo. Protecting everyone, however, would be somewhat difficult.
"To think there is actually someone who has tamed a magical beast."
A group of people walked out of the jungle. As they emerged, the wolves followed, letting out low howls at the caravan.
The Wolf Bandit leader who spoke stared viciously at the wild boar, filled with greed and jealousy. "Kid, how about joining our Wolf King Stronghold? As long as you join our Wolf King Stronghold, I guarantee you'll have endless wealth. Whether it's noble ladies or the pampered daughters of wealthy merchants, we have it all."
The Caravan Boss's expression changed; he seemed genuinely worried that the other party might turn and defect to these Wolf Bandits. "Sir, don't believe these despicable Wolf Bandits. These people surely have their eyes on your mount. Once you enter their wolf den, they will kill you first! As for your mount, it will definitely be controlled. Even if they can't use it later, they will lock it up to breed piglets for domestication! In short, they will absolutely not spare you!"
"Ridiculous. Our Wolf King Stronghold has always offered generous treatment and never turns away those who sincerely wish to join. Furthermore, we only rob those black-hearted wealthy merchants. These people suck the blood of commoners, growing fat and robust themselves while their hands are stained with the blood of countless commoners. Look at the commoners and guards following you; they risk their lives, yet earn only a few silver coins per trip, sometimes not even one! And these merchants? They make thousands or tens of thousands of silver coins, or even more, in a single trip!"
The Wolf Bandit leader's voice was full of persuasive power as he stared at the guards and coachmen. "I am the Black Wolf King of the Wolf King Stronghold. I swear here that as long as you join, you will each get a share of this cargo. Just think, by simply joining, you can obtain hundreds of silver coins. How many trips would you need to make, risking your lives, to earn that much money!"
Sure enough, some were tempted, especially the guard who had been the most jealous of Nie Yu earlier.
The Caravan Boss's face turned livid. "Don't believe these things. Everyone knows what the Wolf Bandits are. Just half a month ago, in Lota Village, there wasn't a single survivor. Everywhere there were corpses torn apart by wolves; it was clearly the work of the Wolf Bandits!"
"Heh, Caravan Bosses are all truly black-hearted and rotten to the core, always liking to pin these labels on us. That village clearly offended a noble. You surely know that three months ago, Lota Village had dozens of farmers forcibly conscripted by a noble to build a castle, right? It was clearly those nobles who didn't want to pay the wages afterward and drove a pack of wolves there, yet now they frame us for it."
Because of Nie Yu's presence, the Wolf Bandits and the caravan were actually arguing until they were red in the face.
As for who was telling the truth and who was lying, please, what did that have to do with him? He was just someone hired to do a job.
Pay the money, and I'll open the road.
"I don't care what grudges you have, but I am escorting this caravan this trip. Now, please leave."
The Caravan Boss's heart instantly settled. He knew that the only reason this group of Wolf Bandits had been prattling on with him for so long was because of the other party.
The Wolf Bandit leader's face immediately darkened.
A Wolf Bandit beside him snapped, "Lord Black Wolf, it's just a wild boar, why worry about so much? If our dozens of wolves go up, even one bite each would be enough to tear this wild boar to shreds!"
