8: Returning to a hundred years later

Seeds of doubt were sown, and even parents and relatives might become objects of suspicion.

The true beginning of the Doomsday Game started with the collapse of human nature.

Everyone living for themselves is not wrong, but it also means that civilization and order will plunge into a prolonged winter.

Tang Ping practiced chopping in his room for half an hour. He had to admit that wielding a four-jin blade for half an hour was indeed very tiring. Finally, he slumped onto the bed and fell asleep, waking up at around five in the morning the next day.

As soon as he woke up, Tang Ping opened the plants vs. zombies mini-game and spent all two hundred sunlight to purchase two Peashooters.

Now, there were already seven plants in the game's inventory.

Carrying his black diamond blade, Tang Ping emerged from the Shelter.

He was even more cautious this time; he remembered that on the first day after the Doomsday Game arrived, after one night had passed, some mutated animals and plants had already appeared.

These mutated animals and plants were collectively known as Pollution Beasts. These Pollution Beasts themselves emitted an unknown Infected energy that could contaminate water sources, air, and land.

Furthermore, if one was scratched by these Pollution Beasts, there was almost a ninety-nine percent chance of becoming an Infected.

Even for players, there was a risk of being Infected. After all, players' physiques were currently similar to ordinary people's and had not improved much due to their awakened Talent. Their resistance to contamination was naturally not much stronger.

Tang Ping did not need supplies now; he only needed treasure chests. As for Pollution Beasts, he avoided them whenever possible.

This was because killing Pollution Beasts would not yield any rewards, nor would it provide experience points to improve his Talent.

Experience points for improving Talent could only be obtained by killing Calamity Beasts.

Calamity Beasts were the experience monsters deployed by the Doomsday Game; to be precise, they were born alongside disasters.

Currently, there were three types of Calamity Beasts: Corrupted Beasts, Storm Beasts, and Raging Sand Beasts.

These powerful Calamity Beasts could not be harmed by ordinary firearms. In the early stages of the Doomsday Game, the appearance of every Calamity Beast was almost a disaster.

Tang Ping was clear about his current strength, so he did not want to encounter Calamity Beasts. He only wanted to find as many treasure chests as possible.

"Nothing, absolutely nothing. As expected, finding doomsday treasure chests is too difficult now." Tang Ping looked at the people in the sandstorm who had also adapted to the Doomsday Game and were starting to search for treasure chests.

Under these circumstances, finding treasure chests was undoubtedly even more difficult.

At this moment, with the sandstorm as cover, players were like hunters in a dark jungle. They were not only looking for treasure chests but also might suddenly appear and stab you in the back.

Therefore, Tang Ping, who maintained extreme vigilance, had to constantly pay attention to his surroundings.

"It's almost noon." Tang Ping sighed. He had been out all morning with no harvest. He could only find a secluded spot, return to his Shelter to rest for a while, and eat some food to replenish his physical consumption.

Arriving at a small grove behind an apartment building, Tang Ping placed his Shelter underground, disguised the door as a lawn, and then entered the Shelter.

He took out the hamburger he got from opening a treasure chest yesterday from the shelf and was about to take a bite.

Suddenly, Tang Ping felt his consciousness being pulled again!

Instantly, he understood what was happening: he was about to go back again!

Back to the Tang Ping body he wore a hundred years later!

What to do? He clearly remembered that nearly starved body. If he went back, he would definitely not last an hour; he would certainly die!

Tang Ping thought of that feeling of hunger, and just that one time, it was etched into his bones.

Unfortunately, he had no way to refuse.

His consciousness became clear again, and he heard Fat Tiger Mom's voice.

"You brat, if you're going to die, don't die in my house!" Fat Tiger Mom stretched out her claws and reached for Tang Ping.

Tang Ping opened his eyes, suddenly a little stunned. He saw a countdown appear before him.

5:59:57

What was this? He suddenly perked up. Perhaps, perhaps this was the amount of time he could stay in this timeline!

Tang Ping felt a slight thrill in his heart. As long as he could hold on for these six hours, he had information to completely change his current situation!

Because he wanted to kill a player from a hundred years ago! After determining his current location in Jiangcheng, he would bury that player's shelter item there and see if, spanning a hundred years of history, this Shelter could appear in this timeline!

If it appeared and he successfully found it, he would have a chance to similarly defy fate for his current self!

Then, relying on his future self from a hundred years later, he would unearth opportunities from a hundred years ago, and after returning, he would compete for the opportunities in the early stages of the Doomsday Game!

"Wait!" Tang Ping said weakly.

"You brat, what's wrong? Are you planning to pay the rent? I'm telling you, if you can't pay a month's rent, you still have to get out. Don't waste my time renting out the house!" Fat Tiger Mom laughed, the three claw marks on her face twisted like a vengeful ghost.

"Give me one more day, and after one day, I'll give you two months' rent! These two months' rent will only count as one month's. How about it?" Tang Ping propped himself up and sat.

Fat Tiger Mom scrutinized the young man before her. She didn't know where this brat suddenly got the confidence to say such words.

"Hehe, don't think you can delay paying rent this way." Fat Tiger Mom sneered, clearly not believing that Tang Ping still had the ability to continue paying rent.

Tang Ping grinned: "Tiger Mom, it's only one day. Anyway, you can't rent out this house today, but after today, you can get an extra month's rent, and this extra month's rent is all yours."

He knew that Fat Tiger Mom was not actually the owner of this six-story building; she was just a manager, and every month she only picked up a few scraps from the mouth of that noble upper-class citizen.

So, an amount equivalent to one month's rent going entirely into her pocket, at the cost of only keeping him for one more day, Tang Ping knew that the greedy Fat Tiger Mom would definitely agree.

Sure enough, Fat Tiger Mom's eyes flickered, but she still didn't relent: "If you don't follow through, wouldn't I have kept you for an extra day for nothing!"

Tang Ping leaned against the wall: "Then I will voluntarily go to the beast-fighting arena and gamble against Pollution Beasts. Although I might die in one match, I will also earn a good sum of money, and all that money will be recorded under your name."

When Fat Tiger Mom heard 'beast-fighting arena,' even she, who was usually ferocious, trembled all over, her gaze fixed on Tang Ping, lost in thought.

Tang Ping, propping up his body, picked up paper and pen, quickly wrote down his promise, and finally bit his finger to press a bloody fingerprint.

"Here, take this. If I don't raise the rent, I will definitely go to the beast-fighting arena!"

Fat Tiger Mom took the paper and read it carefully.

"Alright! Then I'll keep you for one more day!" Fat Tiger Mom agreed and was about to leave.

"Wait!" Tang Ping spoke.

"What now? What, are you scared? Don't want to go to the beast-fighting arena anymore?" Fat Tiger Mom's smile was dangerous.

"No, I'm very hungry right now and need something to eat. If I can't pay the rent tomorrow and have to go to the beast-fighting arena, you can't expect to carry me there, can you?" Tang Ping said.

Fat Tiger Mom stared deeply at Tang Ping on the ground, seemingly trying to confirm if what he said was true.

Finally, Fat Tiger Mom left with a single sentence.

"You wait."

Upon hearing this, Tang Ping's entire body instantly relaxed.

He had survived, this body of his had survived.

Tang Ping wanted to laugh, but the cramping pain in his stomach made his entire face contort.

However, he was still very happy.

"This identity, too, must change."
