460: 42

Ning Yuan clutched the pocket watch in his hand, choosing not to go out.

He had just become a Talent User and was far too weak; that Aberration had already eaten at least ten people.

Its strength far exceeded that of a normal person. If he rashly went out to confront it head-on, he would most likely be the one to die.

He only had one chance and had to seize it.

After the door opened, there was no more sound from the 301 resident. He didn't know exactly what had happened, but Auntie Wang and her child were, in all likelihood, gone.

The footsteps continued, and the thing outside moved on toward the next room.

But this time, the 302 resident, who had received the message in the group chat, didn't seem to open the door.

The thing knocking on the door outside became increasingly agitated.

"Open the door! If you don't open it, I will assume you are in danger and force my way in!"

"Open the door!"

With a bang, the door was forced open. This time, there seemed to be the sound of a violent struggle inside, accompanied by screams, but it quickly faded away.

There was movement in the group chat again.

"What happened? Why did someone scream?"

"I heard it too, it sounded like it came from the third floor. Could the Razor-Toothed Rat have attacked someone already! Dammit! What is going on!"

"What kind of security is this? Are you guys actually capable of anything!"

Tiger Mom: "Everyone, don't worry. The 302 resident was only injured and has now been sent for treatment; there is no danger to their life. However, although the Razor-Toothed Rat was heavily injured, it managed to escape. All residents must be careful and keep your doors locked. If it isn't the security personnel, absolutely do not open the door! That Razor-Toothed Rat seems to have gained some intelligence and can even speak. When we arrive at your door, we will knock three times first. If that doesn't happen, definitely do not open the door."

"Oh my god, how many people has that Razor-Toothed Rat eaten!"

"I heard that once a Razor-Toothed Rat eats a certain number of people, a human head grows out of its back, and that head can even speak. Could this Razor-Toothed Rat have reached that level!"

"This—this is too terrifying. Wouldn't that mean the Razor-Toothed Rat has reached the second level?"

Tiger Mom: "Everyone, don't worry. Our security personnel are Level Three super genetic warriors and are carrying sufficient equipment. The next time, that Razor-Toothed Rat definitely won't be able to escape."

"Level Three super genetic warriors! That's great! Tiger Mom is the best!"

Ning Yuan sneered inwardly as he read this; these people really believed whatever they were told.

He turned off his phone and listened carefully to the footsteps; they seemed to pause in front of his door for a moment.

This made his heart leap into his throat, but he soon relaxed when the footsteps moved away.

He was now considering whether he should take the opportunity to dash out while the thing went up to the fourth floor.

Ning Yuan walked to the window. Outside, it was pitch black, and he couldn't see a thing. Here, turning on a light might attract those Aberrations, so no one dared to turn on any lights once night fell.

He didn't know if there were other Aberrations downstairs.

Or perhaps something else entirely.

Suddenly, he remembered that Talent Users were said to have senses far exceeding those of normal people, but he didn't seem to have changed much.

Could it be that he was just too weak?

No, that wasn't it. A thought occurred to Ning Yuan, and he guided a wisp of the energy flowing within his body, directing it toward his eyes.

In an instant, the world seemed to become much clearer. He saw it.

A chill ran down his spine.

Three Aberrations, their bodies twisted, were looking up at the upper floors, their eyes glowing with an eerie light. Suddenly, he heard a noise and pressed against the window to look toward the side of the wall.

There was a person climbing down along a rope made of bedsheets.

And directly below him was an Aberration.

The Aberration opened its mouth wide, revealing a mouthful of fangs, seemingly waiting for the buffet that was about to fall right into it.

Ning Yuan felt a sense of relief; it was a good thing he hadn't gone down. If he had done the same as that person, he would probably be the buffet in those Aberrations' mouths right now.

But the current situation had become even more difficult. If there were only one Aberration, perhaps he could handle it, but there was at least one inside the building, if not more, and downstairs, on his side alone, there were three.

There were certainly more on the other side as well.

Ning Yuan felt tense. What should he do? Was he really going to die just after awakening his talent and receiving such a massive stroke of luck?

He was unwilling to accept that.

Would the Guard Army come?

He immediately dismissed this absurd thought; those people wouldn't care about their lives at all.

Only the people in the Inner City might wait for the Guard Army; in the Outer City, the Guard Army was merely for show.

The person climbing down from the upper floor suddenly sensed something, along with a strong, foul stench.

His body stiffened, and his eyes were filled with terror.

The next second, he began to climb upward frantically!

But a hand had already grabbed his foot, dragging him down.

"No, don't! Save me! Save me!"

He seemed to be calling out to the upper floors, but there was no reaction.

"No! Aaaah!"

The man felt his lower body being devoured bit by bit, his screams echoing throughout the entire building.

Everyone cowered in terror, seemingly realizing that something was wrong.

Seeing that it had been discovered, the Aberration stopped hiding and broke directly into the rooms!

"Let's fight this thing to the death!"

Intense sounds of fighting erupted from the upper floors, accompanied by screams and roars.

In the end, it returned to silence.

Ning Yuan's hands and feet went cold. What now? Would those Aberrations continue searching?

He had to find a way, a way to hide.

Suddenly, he looked at the pocket watch in his hand.

shelter item.

Information about this item appeared in his mind.

This thing seemed to be able to transform into a small house.

He didn't know what else to do and could only pray that this thing would really help him hide from those Aberrations.

As he mentally commanded it to deploy, a glowing rectangular icon appeared before his eyes.

"Is this the placement location?"

Tap, tap, tap!

The footsteps were approaching.

Boom, boom, boom!

"Is anyone inside?"

"Is anyone there?"

"Is… anyone… there?"

The door let out an unbearable creaking sound.

He couldn't wait any longer. Deploy!

A fully enclosed, ten-square-meter house materialized right there, ignoring the walls of the rental apartment.

Bang!

The door was pushed open a crack.

"Is… anyone… there?"

Ning Yuan pulled the door open, slipped directly into the Shelter, and then the door vanished.

Bang!

The door to the rental apartment was opened, and a hunched monster walked into the room.

Its nose twitched, and a look of confusion suddenly appeared in its eyes.

"Strange, there was the scent of a human in here just a moment ago?"

It looked around the rental apartment and noticed the extra walls that weren't in the other apartments, but its not-very-bright brain didn't suspect anything unusual.

Afterward, the Aberration left.

Hidden inside the Shelter, Ning Yuan sat on the floor, his heart pounding violently.

Before entering, he had wondered what would happen if the thing opened this door again, wishing it could be hidden.

He hadn't expected it to actually vanish.

"Did I… survive?"
