437: Chapter 437 Holy Realm Chapter 3
After cadging a few oat cakes from the old village chief, the three of them—Gu Yuan and his companions—slipped away into the crowd in a flash and ran to a ruined house outside the town to count their silver and copper coins.
"Hehe, Boss, how should we spend all this? It's too much—how long would it take to spend this much money!" Xia Er grinned lecherously, rubbing his hands together.
"Yeah, yeah, even if we bought roasted chickens, we could buy, buy...?" The little fatty Mars scratched his head. "Anyway, we could buy so, so many!"
Gu Yuan licked his lips as well. "Then let's go have a huge feast! Roasted chicken, good wine, and we'll get a big platter of beef too!"
"Yes, yes! Beef! I want to eat beef!"
Suddenly, a sound came from outside the ruined house.
Although the sound wasn't loud, the three kids, who had been pilfering and stealing since they were small, quickly caught it. The three little brats immediately and nimbly hid behind a broken wall.
"Boss, there's definitely good stuff in that tomb. Rumor has it that it's the burial site of a mage. If we can get one or two magic artifacts, even the lowest-grade ones, we won't have to worry for the rest of our lives!"
"Right, right, right, Boss, I saw it too. It's right on the northwest hillside of Pigeon Head Mountain, under that Sleeping Turtle Rock. The tomb door is carved with a magic formation, and strange light flows over it—it's definitely a mage's tomb, no doubt about it!"
The man called Boss walked into the ruined house, sat casually on a log, and looked thoughtful.
"A mage? Heh, who would have thought we'd have something like that in this small place. But you should know that a mage's tomb isn't so easy to rob. It likely contains deadly magical insects, or even terrifying magical beasts, as well as all sorts of magic capable of smashing your bones to powder and scattering your soul!"
Now, after the Age of Gods, the Magic Academy has retreated into seclusion, and the magic system has long since fallen into chaos. Mages no longer distinguish between white magic and black magic; as long as it works, it's good magic. Therefore, many mages study both black magic and white magic.
This has also resulted in many mages using strange and bizarre methods, causing ordinary people to fear and revere them.
The four men's eyes were filled with fear, but it was quickly replaced by greed.
"Boss, that's a mage's tomb."
"Who knows, there might even be a magic legacy inside."
With just that one sentence, everyone's reason completely vanished.
The Boss's eyes were deep, hiding a certain burning intensity. "Then get ready. Convert everything valuable you have into useful gear. This job—it's either death, or we strike it rich!"
"Boss, I'm going back right now to sell my house!"
"I'm going too!"
Soon, the five people in the ruined house disappeared.
The three kids hiding behind the wall widened their eyes, filled with disbelief.
Mars swallowed hard. "Boss, it sounds like they were talking about a mage's tomb? A mage?"
They certainly knew the legends of mages, but they had never seen one, and even considered them things from storybooks meant to fool people.
But now, what had they just heard?
"I heard it too. It's on Pigeon Head Mountain, under some Sleeping Turtle Rock on the northwest hillside." Xia Er's eyes lit up. "Boss, they said there might be magic inside!"
"Magic." Gu Yuan's breathing became rapid, and his whole body felt a rush of heat.
"Magic."
"Boss, how about we go take a look too?" Mars felt an itch in his heart. He didn't want to eat roasted chicken anymore, didn't want beef anymore—his whole mind was filled with magic.
Xia Er also stared at Gu Yuan with anticipation.
Gu Yuan gradually calmed down and asked them in return, "Do you guys really just want to go take a look?"
Xia Er and Mars looked at each other, then Xia Er's gaze grew fiery. "If, if we can, of course we want to go down and see. What if we get an opportunity to become mages? Who would dare look down on us then!"
"Right! Become a mage!" Mars nodded as well.
Gu Yuan spread out the cloth bag in his hand, revealing the silver and copper coins inside. "If we want to go there, we definitely need to exchange for some things—leather armor, daggers, some medicinal powders, and so on. By then, this money will be spent, maybe not even enough, and we might die there!"
"You just heard it too: deadly magical insects, terrifying magical beasts, and strange magic!"
"Boss, if we don't go, I won't be able to sleep well for the rest of my life!" Xia Er clenched his fists, his eyes seemingly flashing with something. "A mage—that's a mage! If we could become mages!"
Mars also nodded. "I definitely wouldn't be able to eat well for the rest of my life either, everything would taste like nothing!"
"Alright, then we go! But with this money, we can only prepare some of the lowest-grade leather armor, daggers, and medicinal powders."
"It doesn't matter! Boss, we'll just follow behind those people!"
"Alright, let's go." Gu Yuan's eyes also held ambition. He, too, wanted to become a legendary mage. Although those mages didn't have a very good reputation, being feared was far better than being bullied.
Two silver coins could purchase a piece of second-hand cowhide armor.
One silver coin could buy a most ordinary foot-long dagger.
As for swords, don't even think about it.
All their money couldn't even buy one.
The remaining thirty copper coins couldn't possibly buy any more medicine, so the three kids put their heads together and bought some dry rations.
Xia Er, being thin and small, kept following those five people. He saw them sell off a large amount of assets, exchanging them for lots and lots of money, even gold coins!
Then they bought sharp longswords, sturdy iron armor, and all sorts of precious potions.
"Boss, we're ready. We're setting out tonight!"
These five prepared very quickly; in a single day, they sold off most of their family assets to exchange for various equipment.
"Let's go, move out!"
Xia Er watched them leave the direction of the ancestral house, then went to find Gu Yuan and Mars.
"They've left!"
"Let's go, we'll follow behind."
"Boss, their equipment is too luxurious!" Xia Er described it, then his eyes showed worry. "Boss, are we being too reckless?"
"What, having regrets?"
"Regrets? No!" Xia Er shook his head firmly. "Anyway, at worst, it's just one rotten life. I don't have any family anyway."
Mars grinned. "That makes it sound like the Boss and I do."
"Hahaha."
The three little brats laughed and, taking advantage of the night, sneaked out of the town and chased after the five grave robbers.
Pigeon Head Mountain was a mountain that looked like a pigeon's head. It wasn't tall, only three or four hundred meters, but there were quite a few venomous insects on it, and very few people dared to come here.
The five grave robbers walked while scattering insect repellent powder ahead of them, causing the venomous insects in the grass to immediately scurry away.
This actually benefited the three little brats following behind.
Otherwise, just those venomous insects alone would have been enough to cost the three little brats their lives.
"We're here, Boss, this is it. Look, this big rock that looks like a turtle!"
