156: Chapter 156 The Giant Beetle
The Lux Civilization Prince said to the black-armored Commander in front of him:
"The glory that the King and Queen await to witness—who among me and my other brothers will become the future leader of the Lux Civilization? It all depends on this sacred expedition."
The Lux Civilization Prince stood before the black-carapaced Commander.
"Do you understand now?"
Clearly, there were internal royal struggles and self-consumption within the alien civilization.
"Forgive me, Your Highness."
"I have a name."
The black-carapaced Commander immediately realized and hurriedly said:
"As you command! Prince Kela Seven."
Kela Seven looked at the black-carapaced compatriot before him, who bore only a cold numerical designation.
Within the Lux Civilization, there was a strict hierarchy.
The smaller the number and the earlier it appeared, the higher the status; conversely, the larger and more complex the number, the more likely it was that he was merely expendable cannon fodder.
In the Lux Civilization, names had to be bestowed by the supreme King and Queen.
Those who possessed names were, in a sense, on an entirely different level from ordinary soldiers or even the generals who commanded armies.
Kela Seven sat on his throne made of flesh, which signified his status, and calmly issued his orders.
"I demand that you spare no cost to slaughter all the humans within this fortress, and then turn this fortress entirely into my possession.
I will record this glory in a tome and present it to Her Majesty the Queen, and my glory will surely be noticed by her."
The Commanders below listened to the demands of their supreme fleet Commander and could not help but grumble inwardly.
What was this?
They could have destroyed the fortress with minimal losses and proceeded to take the human capital planet, yet they were forced to endlessly pour troops into this steel fortress—it was simply the stupidest tactic.
Although the Lux Civilization Commanders were dissatisfied, they had no choice; they had to obey the Prince's orders.
The Lux Civilization hierarchy was extremely strict, and furthermore, superiors possessed a form of psionic suppression over subordinates, making it impossible for them to resist.
But there was no help for it; the Prince's glory was more important than anything, even higher than the lives of the soldiers, including the lives of these Commanders themselves.
After receiving the order, the Commanders had no choice but to change their plans and continue deploying troops toward the Vanad Fortress.
At this moment, Commander Keri, seeing the outer defense platforms and the defensive line fall, immediately ordered his forces to retreat.
Keri had originally been prepared to sacrifice his life for the Emperor and the Governor.
In his view, the fortress's anti-aircraft facilities had been destroyed, and the alien warship bombardment would soon arrive, at which point the entire fortress would be reduced to cosmic ruins.
Yet the anticipated warship bombardment did not arrive; instead, the surviving soldiers quickly communicated the latest situation to the command room inside the fortress via the communication array:
"Commander, there seems to be a situation! The aliens didn't use warship bombardment; instead, they have launched a fourth wave of attacks."
Hearing this, Keri was completely dumbfounded.
He really couldn't understand why the aliens were doing this. Even if they exhausted all their strength to capture the entire fortress, what they would get was merely a riddled ruin; surely they wouldn't waste countless resources and manpower to rebuild it, would they?
But Keri still felt a sense of relief; they could use their lives to buy more preparation time for the Governor and Vanad Planet.
Thinking of this, Keri immediately picked up his weapon and led his remaining troops to set up layers of defense throughout the fortress.
The moment the gate at the bottom of the fortress was blown open, countless Lux Civilization aliens swarmed out like insects.
The garrisoned soldiers immediately employed heavy machine guns and flamethrowers, their fierce firepower instantly roasting these aliens into charcoal or reducing them to pulp.
During the months of fighting against the Lux Civilization, the soldiers had quickly discovered the flaws of the Lux Civilization.
They had little heavy ground firepower, relying more on their carapaces and specialized bone blades for close-quarters combat.
But the problem was that the number of Lux Civilization aliens in front of them was greater than the soldiers' ammunition.
Whenever a soldier killed a Lux Civilization alien, more aliens would trample over the corpses and continue charging forward.
Moreover, those ordinary Lux Civilization aliens were more like worker ants serving the entire civilization, knowing only how to charge.
But unlike worker ants, the ordinary Lux Civilization soldiers also possessed emotions and thoughts.
Once a hopeless situation arose on the front lines, these soldiers would retreat and flee without hesitation.
In necessary situations, they would even kill their own Commander—those aliens with black horns.
Afterwards, these fleeing aliens would not be executed but would instead serve as cannon fodder again under the leadership of more powerful aliens.
As wave after wave of Lux Civilization alien attacks were repelled, just when the soldiers thought they had earned a rare moment to breathe, a red figure appeared on the battlefield.
The soldiers saw the special red figure among the Lux Civilization aliens and immediately cursed:
"Damn it, what's going on? Why did they send that thing up here?"
Within the Lux Civilization, there was a group of special monsters; compared to ordinary Lux Civilization soldiers, their bodies were several times larger and even more terrifying and brutal.
These monsters had absolutely no reason; they were entirely crimson and knew only slaughter.
The moment they appeared on the battlefield, both human soldiers and ordinary Lux Civilization soldiers often had to die.
If one had to describe it, it was the difference between a human and a gorilla.
"Bring up the tanks! Open fire on these Giant Beetles!"
The soldiers called this type of red, giant Lux Civilization alien a Giant Beetle.
The Leman Russ Tank responded to the company Commander's order, its heavy tracks crushing the ground as it slowly approached.
A massive Lux Civilization Giant Beetle crashed through the first line of defense and lunged in.
Just as it let out its first roar, a cannon blast followed.
The Leman Russ Tank fired a single shot, blasting the Giant Beetle into smithereens.
Just as the entire corridor was filled with flames and flesh, and the soldiers thought they were about to win again, a second Giant Beetle charged straight out of the flames.
The Giant Beetle's hard limbs instantly pierced through the entire Leman Russ Tank.
