98: Chapter 98 Landing and Sacrifice

Twenty Lightning fighters, ten Avenger strike fighters, thirty Valkyrie assault carriers, plus ten Marauder bombers.

A total of seventy aircraft roared in formation, charging toward the Spaceport.

The Spaceport's anti-aircraft defenses activated rapidly.

Dense artillery fire and laser beams struck the aircraft formation.

One of the aircraft was hit and disintegrated in mid-air.

But the aircraft formation immediately responded; a massive barrage of shells and missiles was launched from the formation, targeting those remaining fire points.

With continuous output of firepower and relying on sacrifice, the aircraft formation finally reached the edge of the nearest Spaceport.

At this moment, the remaining five Lightning attack aircraft, the last survivors of the escort squad, immediately launched all their missiles, successfully blasting an opening at the edge of one of the Spaceport hangars.

The entire aircraft formation dispersed rapidly, clearing enough space for the transport aircraft behind them.

The transport aircraft forced their way through the artillery fire, entering the breach blasted open by the fighter formation, swarming in like a school of fish.

Once inside, it was not undefended; the rebels had long since set up an inescapable net here.

The transport ships were not without defenses either; they had long been equipped with autocannons, firing wildly at their surroundings.

Just as the rebel gunners were about to order the heavy artillery to fire, before the heavy guns could even discharge a shell, they and their artillery were blasted into fragments on the spot.

It was not without success, however; a Chaos-blessed artillery emplacement, designated No. 8, unleashed the most powerful barrage.

The shell, with an astonishing and eerie trajectory, pierced directly through the transport aircraft's porthole, destroying the entire transport along with the soldiers inside.

The rebels had no time to rejoice before they were struck on the spot by the autocannons from behind, destroying both the personnel and the laser cannon.

Just as the battle was in full swing, one transport ship forcibly opened its cargo bay doors while still in mid-air.

Seeing this, the rebel leader thought they must be crazy; it was impossible for soldiers to jump directly from such a height.

But to their surprise, what appeared after the hatch opened was not fully armed soldiers, but three Armored Sentinel walkers.

The three Armored Sentinel walkers descended into the hangar like gods descending to earth.

Their gun barrels quickly aimed at the surrounding rebels, and powerful firepower poured out instantly, suppressing the rebels so they couldn't even lift their heads.

The entire hangar looked like fireworks blooming, with laser cannon strikes everywhere.

The rebels roared as they charged toward the Sentinel walkers.

Xia Xingchen's soldiers were stunned by this scene; if they had charged with guns firing, one could praise their bravery, but the problem was they actually pulled out broadswords and hacked their way over.

For a moment, many Astra Militarum soldiers wondered if they were fighting a medieval war.

In front of the Armored Sentinel walkers, this was merely a one-sided slaughter.

With the continuous output of powerful firepower, the entire landing platform inside the hangar was gradually brought under the control of the Astra Militarum.

Two Sentinel walkers guarded the hangar entrance and exit, preparing to block the Khorne rebels' attack.

A strange sound came from the corridor entrance.

Although the two walkers felt puzzled, they did not retreat in the slightest; transport aircraft were landing continuously behind them, and if they retreated now, the transports in the landing sequence would be shot down on the spot.

The two Sentinel walkers hesitated not for a moment, unleashing a barrage of fire toward the pitch-black corridor entrance.

Whatever monsters or demons were inside, they just needed to blast them all away.

Soon, the Sentinel walkers realized their laser cannons seemed to be hitting some kind of hard iron object.

Until the light could illuminate the situation inside.

What appeared before them was not an army, but a massive sheet of iron with a cannon barrel protruding from the center.

Before the Sentinel walkers could react, the cannon barrel gathered a powerful blood-red beam of light.

One Sentinel walker was still holding down the fire button, and before it could react, its entire armor was pierced through.

The machine inside the corridor continued to advance, and the others finally saw clearly that it was a modified mobile artillery turret.

The last Sentinel walker quickly rushed up, replacing the destroyed Sentinel walker next to it.

The two Sentinel walkers simultaneously formed a crossfire pattern.

But their attacks struck that thick iron plating without causing any effective damage.

The giant cannon behind it continued to fire relentlessly.

Every heavy shell could inflict fatal damage on the Sentinel walkers.

And behind the heavy cannon, countless Khorne followers were scrambling to rush forward.

The Sentinel walker still did not retreat at all.

One of the Sentinel walkers suddenly realized that the beam just fired by the giant cannon had grazed past it, and its own right turret had already been melted away.

The operator looked through the armored glass at the situation and knew that the defense line being broken was only a matter of time.

With a boom, another shell struck the armor.

The last Sentinel walker turned its head and saw that its companion beside it had stopped attacking.

"Now, it's just me left."

The last Sentinel walker turned to look behind it.

The main force had entered the final airborne stage, and some soldiers had already stepped out of the cabin.

The Astra Militarum soldiers were approaching the entrance with weapons in hand, preparing to fight side by side with the Sentinel walker, but the operator of the last Sentinel walker knew that flesh and blood would only be sacrificed in vain before this giant cannon.

"Should I choose to preserve my own life, or choose to save the lives of my comrades?"

This veteran operator watched the giant cannon ahead as it began to recharge.

"There is no time left to hesitate."

"My life is so insignificant compared to the entire legion."

"But, I can determine how great my sacrifice will be."

The walker operator immediately engaged the walker's energy engine, beginning a forced overload.

Finally, the Sentinel walker, like a knight facing death without fear, charged fiercely into the rebels' corridor.

Relying on the walker's own powerful defensive capabilities and the gap in the turret's recharge cycle, the Sentinel walker smashed into the crowd of rebels like a solid iron ball.

The Khorne officer shot open the operator's hatch, only to discover that the soldier inside was already dead.

And his arm was firmly pushing the energy valve, setting it to the maximum value.

"Run! Run quickly!"

Fear immediately appeared on the Khorne officer's face; one might die in battle, but a Sentinel walker explosion meant certain death.

The rebels didn't even care about the mobile artillery turret anymore; everyone scrambled to run backward.

The massive explosion instantly turned the entire corridor into a sea of fire; seeing this, Xia Xingchen's soldiers hurriedly closed the gate, barely blocking the terrifying shockwave.

The greatest fortune had arrived.
