182: Chapter 182: Hill 75

Before the wounded Scarab could react, several bolter rounds exploded instantly against its body.

The wounded creature let out a pained, shrill shriek.

Just as the Scarab was preparing to launch another attack, a strong psychic signal was transmitted directly into its mind—it was an order to retreat.

The reason the Scarab could become the ultimate unit of the Lux Aliens was entirely due to its unparalleled loyalty and obedience to orders.

As the ground Commander issued the order to fall back, the last Scarab dragged its broken body backward without hesitation.

The Warhound-class Titan, ripper, wanted to pursue, but it was intercepted by the sky full of Corrosive Wyverns.

They attacked ripper endlessly like mosquitoes, forcing ripper to stop and deal with the Corrosive Wyverns first.

The corrosive fluid of the Wyverns had no effect on the Warhound-class Titan.

The problem was that the weapons fire from the Warhound-class Titan was negligible against the Corrosive Wyverns.

Even if millions of Corrosive Wyverns were shot down, there were still hundreds of millions more.

The operator cursed helplessly, "What a bunch of annoying bugs."

However, the command headquarters immediately issued a retreat order to the Warhound-class Titan.

The Warhound-class Titan was not suited for dealing with such small units.

Upon receiving the order to retreat from headquarters, the Warhound-class Titan promptly withdrew from the battlefield.

As the Astra Militarum and the Planetary Defense Force retook control of the battlefield, the entire area quickly turned back into a meat grinder.

The radiation beams of the Adeptus Mechanicus also played a huge role; they contaminated the land ahead, forcing every Lux Alien walking on it to constantly suffer from burning and corrosion.

Across the entire battlefield, laser beams and bolter rounds flew everywhere. If not for the massive footprints and the corpses of the Scarabs, no one would have imagined that this very ground had just witnessed such a magnificent battle.

At night, as the sun set, the offensive of the Lux Aliens finally slowed down.

It wasn't that the aliens didn't want to attack; it was because their Commander was busy submitting today's battle report. After all, losing two Scarabs at once would certainly not escape the punishment of the Princes.

In space, the three Princes watched the real-time combat footage as the situation on the ground was clearly presented before them.

When the three Princes saw that the human super-mecha had killed two of their three Scarabs and severely injured one, they fell into silence.

They had originally thought that losing two Scarabs would at least destroy some enemy units, but who could have imagined that the opponent's strength would exceed their expectations.

"Fourth Brother, at this rate, it seems we simply won't be able to break through."

Lux IV pondered for a moment and said, "It is obvious that it is highly effective against those super-units, but when facing massive numbers of small units, it still has to retreat."

Lux IV was clearly exaggerating the strength of his own army; such giant units were inherently unsuited for dealing with overwhelming numbers of small units.

Lux V and Lux VI heard this and did not call him out, instead going along with Lux IV's meaning.

War requires victory, not truth.

"What do we do next? Should we let the ground forces continue to launch a human-wave offensive?"

After hearing Lux V's words, Lux IV nodded and issued a brutal order: "Tell the ground forces to spare no cost; they must reach the outskirts of Holy Mountain City. If they fail, they don't need to come back."

The general on the side noted down the order and transmitted it to the ground forces.

After the ground command headquarters received the Prince's order, everyone looked at each other, their eyes hiding unsuppressible exhaustion and helplessness.

The strategy of the Lux Aliens was simple: assemble a massive army, organize an unrivaled assault force, and push toward the base of Holy Mountain City at all costs.

Consequently, the war turned into a brutal war of attrition and tug-of-war.

The next day, the Lux Aliens organized a massive assault force, composed of Corrosive Wyverns, Giant Beetles, elite Black Beetle units, and countless auxiliary units.

The Black Beetles, which should have been used for officer command ranks, became the rank-and-file soldiers for the charge here.

Their first target for the attack was a small hill with relatively gentle terrain.

This was one of the few small mounds on the Rose Plains; capturing it would allow them to establish a fire support anchor point.

This time, the aliens finally learned to be clever; they actually launched their attack under the cover of night.

Having experienced a full day of fierce fighting, the Imperial soldiers on Hill 75 were yawning while keeping watch.

After all, the daytime battle had been exhausting, and the Lux Aliens had never made any moves at night, which caused them to lower their guard even further.

Just as the soldiers were becoming increasingly sleepy under the hypnotic effect of the night, a sharp bone blade sliced directly through the throat of the sentry.

The movement was too fast; none of the others could react in time.

Other soldiers had just tried to raise their guns when they were stabbed through the chest by the black Lux Aliens behind them.

Immediately after, the black Lux Aliens jumped into the trench and opened fire with submachine guns specially crafted for them.

Many soldiers were killed by the Lux Aliens' sneak attack before they could even react.

As more and more Lux Aliens swarmed onto the hill, the defenders finally noticed the anomaly.

The next second, the sound of alarms instantly rang across the entire position.

The very second the human alarms sounded, a large number of Giant Beetles began to charge madly toward the human positions, and the chaotic situation caused everyone to ignore the plea for help from Hill 75.

Two hours later, corpses were piled like mountains on the battlefield, and the vast majority of positions had sent back reports that they had held their lines.

But only Hill 75 had no news sent back, and this abnormal situation quickly caused concern at headquarters.

Headquarters immediately ordered two positions adjacent to Hill 75 to each dispatch reconnaissance troops to ascertain the situation on Hill 75.

None of the three waves of scouts sent out returned, and several surrounding positions also faintly felt that something was wrong. This time, they organized a special reconnaissance squad directly.

The squad was composed of 12 elites, and to be safe, they were equipped with specialized individual communication equipment to ensure no accidents would occur.

In the end, the reconnaissance squad paid a heavy price, with only one person successfully returning alive to inform everyone of the intelligence on Hill 75.

"Hill 75 has fallen."
