141: Chapter 141 Don't Look Back
The blonde guy shrank into his gaming chair, his shoulders slumping and his neck going limp.
His ten fingers hung over the armrests, trembling incessantly.
"I didn't... Manager, I didn't match-fix..."
His voice changed pitch, shifting from his earlier outburst into a dry, raspy whisper.
The middle-aged man didn't listen to his explanation at all.
He tilted his head toward the two staff members behind him.
One staff member walked around to the back of the computer and yanked out the power cord.
The screen went dark, the RGB light strips extinguished row by row, and the lighting effects on the entire wall vanished within three seconds.
The other staff member held a sealed bag and collected the keyboard, mouse, and headset from the desk one by one, reciting the serial number for each item into the body camera.
The blonde guy's eyes darted back and forth, following his peripherals, his lips trembling as he tried to say something, but he couldn't form a single complete word.
Jiang Feng leaned back in his high-speed train seat, watching the whole process.
The text on the screen was crammed together; it was impossible to see who was saying what, with only a mass of colorful bars surging upward.
"Oh my god??? They just grabbed him like that???"
"Streamer, are you from the tournament league?"
"This is even more exciting than a TV show!"
"Three million people watching a match-fixing scene live; this guy has socially died to the end of the universe."
"DOG is finished; they might as well not play this season."
The middle-aged man grabbed the blonde guy by the back of his collar and hauled him up from the gaming chair.
The blonde guy's legs buckled, and he scuffed his feet on the floor for a couple of steps before barely managing to stand steady.
The chewing gum in his mouth had fallen out at some point, sticking to the top of his left leather shoe.
He turned his head to take one last look at the phone camera.
His lips were still parted, his eyes motionless; his entire face held the dullness of someone who had been completely hollowed out.
The next second.
The staff member picked up the blonde guy's phone.
The connection screen went black.
Only Jiang Feng remained on the livestream.
The sunset outside the high-speed train window scorched half the sky orange-red, the light hitting the side of Jiang Feng's face.
He unscrewed his thermos, took a large gulp of water, and smacked his lips.
"No matter how fast your hand speed is, it can't outrun retribution."
Jiang Feng commented to the camera.
"Well, that's settled then; room and board are covered, so he doesn't have to worry about where to train next season."
The chat section had gone wild.
"Streamer, are you even human? He just got arrested and you're making snide remarks?"
"I love it! Say more!"
"This master is definitely real; he predicted both people perfectly."
The popularity number of the livestream surged like it was riding a rocket.
Number one on the site-wide popularity ranking.
Jiang Feng glanced at the number, his face expressionless, while he silently tallied the accounts in his mind.
Two divinations completed; one more to go.
γDing! Effective divination count: 2 / 3γ
The system notification chimed in his mind, and Jiang Feng put the thermos away.
He stretched toward the camera.
"Final round."
"Changing the slogan for the last one."
Jiang Feng thought for two seconds.
"Star Consultation, mission accomplished."
The speed at which the chat section was flooded with these eight characters broke the record for the night.
Nearly six million people were fighting for a single lucky bag slot.
Jiang Feng clicked the draw button.
An ID popped up.
Little Deer Doesn't Get Lost.
Jiang Feng clicked to accept the connection.
The screen that lit up on the right was completely different in style from the previous two.
The image showed a narrow rental apartment.
The wallpaper was yellowing, and a few textbooks with curled edges were piled on the bedside table.
The curtains were drawn, leaving only a narrow slit.
The only light source in the room was a desk lamp by the bed with a power of less than thirty watts.
The light dyed the entire room a dim yellow.
A girl in light blue pajamas sat on the edge of the bed.
She looked about twenty-one, wearing a loose ponytail.
Her face was small, and there were two obvious dark circles under her eyes.
She rubbed her eyes and gave a somewhat unnatural smile to the camera.
"Hello, Master..."
Her voice was a bit hoarse, as if she hadn't spoken to anyone for a long time.
"I've been having nightmares lately."
She pulled her hands back into her sleeves, clutching the fabric of the cuffs.
"Every single night."
"It's extremely cold in my dreams."
"Even after I wake up, the room is cold; it's useless even if I turn the air conditioner to thirty degrees."
She lowered her head to look at her hands.
"I wanted to ask... is there something wrong with the feng shui of this house?"
The style of the chat section shifted from revelry to a normal rhythm.
"This girl doesn't look like she's in a good state."
"Nightmares? Feng shui? Here we go again."
"Master, take a look for her; hopefully, it's not some bad romance luck."
Jiang Feng's hand rested on the thermos, his five fingers slowly tightening.
The lighting was a bit dim, but he could still barely see clearly.
The girl's life palace was blackened.
The complexion lines on her cheeks were twisted in an abnormal direction, and all the color lines were converging toward the back of her neck, as if being pulled by something from behind.
He had come across these physiognomy features in the system's library of omens.
It wasn't an illness, and it wasn't a malevolent aura.
It was something clinging to her.
A real, tangible unclean thing.
All the casualness and playfulness on Jiang Feng's face vanished completely.
"Young lady."
Jiang Feng spoke, his speaking pace significantly slower than the previous two divinations.
"Regarding your problem, it's not feng shui."
The girl blinked.
"Huh? Then what is it?"
"There is an unclean thing clinging to you."
The girl's smile disappeared.
She stared wide-eyed at the camera.
"Master, you're joking, right?"
"Is this a scripted effect?"
Jiang Feng didn't smile.
He lowered his voice, speaking very softly, but every word landed clearly.
"Listen to me."
"From now on."
"Do not look back."
"Do not stand up."
"Do not make any sudden, large movements."
The girl's face turned pale.
The number of messages in the chat section plummeted to one-tenth of what it was within three seconds.
Six million people stared at the screen, not daring to breathe.
Jiang Feng's voice continued to transmit.
"That thing is right behind you."
"Less than two meters away."
The girl's breathing became rapid, and the frequency of her chest rising and falling visibly accelerated.
"Is there a small makeup mirror on your desk?"
The girl's gaze darted toward the bedside table.
"...Yes."
"Pick it up."
Jiang Feng's fingers tapped lightly on the tabletop.
"Pretend to fix your hair; make the movement natural."
"Then use the mirror to look at the wardrobe behind you."
"The gap in the wardrobe door."
The girl's hands were shaking.
She reached out and picked up the palm-sized circular makeup mirror from the messy desk.
She held the mirror to the side of her ear, pretending to fix her hair.
The phone stand tilted at an angle, and the reflection from the mirror happened to fall within the frame of the front-facing camera.
Her wrist turned slowly.
The mirror reflected the scene behind her.
An old wardrobe.
The door was not closed tightly.
The gap was about three fingers wide.
Six million people stared at that small connection window on the right side of the livestream screen.
In the mirror, deep within the gap, something was moving.
It was black, like a mass of thick water stain spreading across the wall.
Then, right in the center of the water stain, a slit opened.
It wasn't a slit.
It was a pair of eyes.
Bloodshot, with no eyelids.
Staring fixedly at the girl's back.
