92: Chapter 92 The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.
Jiang Feng held up the desk lamp, forcing a smile onto his face that he considered quite innocent.
Over a dozen red laser aiming dots danced across his body, eventually settling on his brow and heart.
Jiang Feng had no doubt that if he said another word, or if the lamp in his hand wobbled even slightly, he would instantly be reduced to a pulp of flesh.
Just at this tense moment.
"Bang!" The door to the secret chamber was kicked open from the inside.
The figure of Zhao Yi appeared at the doorway.
In his hand, he was gripping Mr. K's neck tightly, lifting him entirely off the ground.
Mr. K's face was full of madness and resentment, his limbs still struggling in vain.
The special police officers who rushed in paused for a split second upon seeing this scene.
Their primary target for this mission, the king of the Southeast Asian underground world, had actually been subdued by a man in plain clothes as if he were a chick.
"Don't move!" Zhao Yi's voice was loud and powerful.
He looked toward the squad of special police.
"Jinghai City Criminal Investigation Detachment, Zhao Yi!"
He pulled his police badge from his coat, tossed it toward the special police, and it was caught by the squad leader.
The squad leader opened the ID, looked up at Zhao Yi, then looked down at the subdued Mr. K.
He waved his hand.
The laser sights locked onto Jiang Feng all went out.
Jiang Feng let out a long breath, feeling as if he had come back to life.
"You're early, Captain Zhao." Jiang Feng rubbed his somewhat stiff face. "I almost saw my great-grandmother."
Two special police officers stepped forward and took custody of Mr. K using specialized shackles.
Mr. K stopped struggling and just stared fixedly at Jiang Feng, the malice in his eyes as if he wanted to devour him alive.
Jiang Feng waved at him and grinned.
"Mr. K, don't look at me like that. I told you, this last fortune-telling is on the house, free of charge."
At this moment, a burly white officer wearing combat command attire strode in, surrounded by a squad of guards.
The general's stars on his shoulders and the medals on his chest signaled his status.
The commander-in-chief of this multinational joint task force, Petersen.
He greeted them in broken Chinese, then nodded to a liaison officer beside him.
The liaison officer immediately walked up.
He was an Asian man in his thirties with a refined temperament and a polite smile on his face.
"Officer Zhao, Mr. Jiang, good evening." He spoke in Chinese with a slight Beijing accent. "I am the liaison officer for this operation, Reynolds."
"On behalf of the Joint Command, I would like to express our deepest gratitude for your heroic performance in this operation."
Zhao Yi nodded, his expression serious.
"Just doing my duty."
Reynolds' smile became even warmer.
"Mr. K is guilty of heinous crimes. Over the years, Interpol has paid a huge price to capture him. Bringing him to justice this time is entirely due to your contributions."
He paused, his tone becoming solemn.
"We guarantee that we will immediately transfer him to the International Court to ensure he receives the fairest trial."
The moment his words fell.
A needle-like stinging sensation pierced Jiang Feng's temple.
The feeling came and went quickly.
Jiang Feng's expression didn't change at all, but his heart skipped a beat.
【Eye of Truth】 activated.
This Reynolds was lying.
He spoke of putting Mr. K on trial, but what he was thinking was likely something else entirely.
"Damn it, is this pirate ship full of nesting dolls?" Jiang Feng cursed inwardly. "The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind, and now there's an eagle behind the oriole?"
He knew that things were far from over.
Reynolds didn't seem to notice anything unusual and continued smiling as he spoke.
"Considering your safety, we have prepared the most comfortable rooms for you. Please go and rest first. We can discuss subsequent statements and commendations after we return to base."
"Wait a moment," Jiang Feng suddenly spoke up.
Everyone's gaze focused on him.
Jiang Feng scratched his head, pointed at his clothes which were covered in dust, and looked disdainful.
"The fight earlier was too intense, and I'm a bit dirty. I'd like to go to the restroom to clean up first."
Reynolds was stunned for a moment, then smiled: "Of course, that is your freedom."
He signaled to a special police officer nearby.
"Have him take Mr. Jiang there."
Jiang Feng nodded and followed the special police officer out.
When passing by the commander-in-chief, Petersen, Jiang Feng stumbled, bumping right into him.
"Careful!" The guards beside Petersen immediately prepared to step forward.
Petersen raised his hand to stop them.
Jiang Feng took the opportunity to steady himself by grabbing Petersen's arm.
He looked up and gave Petersen an apologetic smile.
Then, he lowered his voice and spoke quickly, at a volume only the two of them could hear.
"Reynolds might be an inside man. Abort the deal."
After saying this, he let go of his arm, stopped looking at Petersen's reaction, and followed the special police officer deep into the corridor without looking back.
Petersen stood in place, his expression unchanged.
But his eyes narrowed slightly.
Reynolds... is an inside man?
That young man's eyes just now did not look like he was joking.
After all, everything that happened today was already strange enough.
Is this the superpower of the Huaxia expert described in the intelligence report?
"Commander," Reynolds' voice interrupted his train of thought.
"Mr. K has been controlled. I suggest we immediately transfer him to my direct speedboat, and I will personally lead the escort team to ensure nothing goes wrong."
Petersen withdrew his gaze and looked at Reynolds.
A senior liaison officer, when dealing with major criminals, should coordinate all parties, not volunteer to take on the most dangerous escort mission.
This was unreasonable.
Overstepping authority.
Through Jiang Feng's reminder, Petersen had already determined that Reynolds was indeed harboring bad intentions.
The scales in his heart tilted instantly.
He looked at Reynolds' face, which was still wearing a standard smile; that smile now seemed particularly glaring in his eyes.
"You're right, safety first." Petersen finally spoke. He stepped forward and patted Reynolds on the shoulder heavily, his tone revealing nothing unusual.
"Let's do as you suggested. Mr. K is an important prisoner. I can rest easy if you escort him personally."
A flash of joy crossed Reynolds' eyes.
"Yes! Guarantee to complete the mission!"
He immediately turned around and began to mobilize his direct squad to take Mr. K away.
Not long after, Petersen made an extremely subtle gesture toward Jiang Feng, who had just walked back from the direction of the restroom, and Zhao Yi beside him.
He pointed toward the direction of the cruise ship's central command room.
"Gentlemen, I have everything arranged. I would like to invite you to watch a good show."
