24: Chapter 24 Citywide Blockade? Then I'll go back to sleep first.
The morning at Yunding Yihao Residential Area had no birds chirping, only the low hum of idling engines.
Li Cheng did not go home.
He stood beside the stone lion at the main entrance of the residential area, his cigar burned to the end, the ash falling onto his custom-made Italian leather shoes.
Twenty black sedans were parked behind him.
These cars were lined up bumper to bumper, sealing off all three exits of the residential area completely.
Beside each car stood two men in black suits, wearing sunglasses, their hands crossed in front of them.
The property manager stood in the security booth, clutching a walkie-talkie, his forehead covered in sweat.
He dared not call the police.
Li Cheng was the boss of Starlight Media, and even more so, a famous "tough guy" in this area.
The residents' group chat had already exploded; some wanted to go out to work, but were politely yet firmly persuaded back by the men in black suits.
The reason was simple: to protect the safety of the Master.
"Boss." The head bodyguard walked over and reported in a low voice, "We've checked. That Jiang Feng lives in Building 5, Room 502. He hasn't left since he returned last night. No food deliveries, no packages."
Li Cheng threw away the cigar butt and ground it into the ground with his shoe.
"Keep watching." Li Cheng said, "I don't believe he won't come out. As long as he shows his head, whether it's to buy groceries or take out the trash, invite him directly into the car."
Li Cheng raised his wrist and glanced at his watch.
Eight in the morning.
The sunlight began to turn glaring.
Li Cheng took a bottle of Evian water from the car, unscrewed it, and took a sip.
He was waiting.
That young man had refused his twenty-million check last night, saying he was off work.
This was playing hard to get.
Li Cheng had seen plenty of such tricks.
The young man thought he was a rare commodity, wanting to raise the price higher, or wanting something more important than money—like face.
Li Cheng gave him plenty of face.
These twenty cars, these dozens of people, this was the display.
Building 5, Room 502.
The blackout curtains were drawn tightly, and the room was as dark as night.
Jiang Feng turned over.
The pressure from the tumor in his brain was heaviest in the morning, as if someone had poured mercury into his skull.
He reached out to the nightstand, found the painkillers, and swallowed two pills dry.
The phone vibrated under the pillow.
It wasn't a call; it was an alarm.
Jiang Feng turned off the alarm.
He knew what was happening downstairs.
When he returned last night, he had noticed those trailing cars. But he didn't care.
As he was now, other than being a late-stage brain cancer patient who could die suddenly at any moment, he was nothing.
Go down for what? To die?
Jiang Feng pulled the quilt up and covered his head.
Sleep.
Downstairs, Li Cheng went from standing to sitting.
Staff brought over a parasol and a folding chair.
The sun rose higher and higher, and the asphalt road began to emit a scorching smell.
Ten o'clock. Twelve o'clock. Two in the afternoon.
Li Cheng's shirt was soaked through, sticking to his back.
The composure of controlling everything gradually peeled away, replaced by anxiety.
He checked his watch frequently.
For six whole hours, that window hadn't even had its curtains moved.
The onlookers were increasing.
Passing pedestrians took out their phones to take pictures, and Streamers rushed over upon hearing the news, starting livestreams from across the street.

The trending search terms began to climb.
Li Cheng's face grew darker and darker.
He had originally wanted to put pressure on Jiang Feng, but now he was the one being watched by the whole city.
This was like a farce, and he was the clown begging desperately on stage.
"Go knock on the door." Li Cheng said, gritting his teeth.
The head bodyguard hesitated: "Boss, the security in this residential area is very strict. If we force our way in..."
"I said go knock on the door!" Li Cheng roared, "Tell him my patience is limited!"
Just as the two bodyguards were preparing to force their way into the unit door, a sharp siren sound tore through the air.
"Beep—boop—beep—boop—"
A white ambulance with flashing blue lights rushed against traffic to the entrance of the residential area.
The driver of the black car blocking the road didn't react in time.
The ambulance showed no signs of slowing down, slamming directly into the bumper of the first black car.
"Move! Emergency!"
The driver's irritable roar came from the ambulance's loudspeaker.
Li Cheng stood up.
The black car had to move.
The ambulance drove straight in and stopped under Building 5.
Five minutes later.
The stretcher was pushed out.
Jiang Feng was lying on it.
He wasn't wearing that signature windbreaker, but instead was wearing that old gray hoodie.
An oxygen mask was on his face, his eyes tightly shut.
His complexion was as white as a sheet of paper, his lips devoid of color.
This wasn't faked.
Having been hungry for a whole day, plus the increased intracranial pressure, his current state didn't require any acting.
Two doctors in white lab coats pushed the stretcher, their steps fast.
"Move! Everyone move!" the doctor shouted.
Li Cheng rushed up.
"Jiang Feng!" Li Cheng blocked the stretcher, reaching out to grab Jiang Feng's arm, "Don't play dumb with me! Two million isn't enough, right? How much do you want?"
The stretcher stopped.
Jiang Feng didn't open his eyes.
The doctor beside him stepped forward, blocking Li Cheng.
This was a middle-aged doctor in his forties, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, with "Director of Emergency Center" written on his name tag.
This was someone Jiang Feng had paid a high price to hire from a private hospital.
"What are you doing?" the doctor barked sternly.
"I want to talk to him." Li Cheng pointed at Jiang Feng on the stretcher, "He is faking illness."
"Faking illness?" The doctor sneered, pulled a CT scan out of his pocket, and slapped it directly onto Li Cheng's chest, "Glioblastoma stage four, intracranial hypertension, possible brain herniation at any moment. Try touching him! If he dies here, you are guilty of intentional homicide."
Li Cheng was stunned.
He picked up the film.
Although he couldn't understand the images, the diagnostic conclusion written on it was clear.
[Undifferentiated glioma, terminal stage, palliative care recommended.]
Li Cheng looked at the person lying on the stretcher. That face was gaunt, breathing weak, the rise and fall of the chest almost invisible.
This was no Master. This was just someone about to die.
The surrounding livestream cameras were all aimed at this scene. The comments section was in an uproar.
"I have something to ask him..." Li Cheng's voice lowered.
"Ask later." The doctor pushed Li Cheng aside, "We need to perform emergency treatment now. Move!"
The doctor and nurse pushed the stretcher, bypassed Li Cheng, and rushed quickly toward the ambulance.
The stretcher wheel hit the curb, shaking a bit.
Jiang Feng's brows furrowed, and he let out a painful moan.
Li Cheng stood in place, watching the ambulance's back door close with a "bang."
The siren sounded again.
The ambulance pushed through the crowd trying to block it and sped away.
Li Cheng gripped the CT scan, his knuckles turning white.
He lost.
He could use money to pry open anyone's mouth, but he couldn't pry open the mouth of a dying man.
Inside the ambulance.
The serious doctor from before let out a sigh of relief, took off his glasses, and wiped away sweat.
"Boss, was that acting just now okay?" the doctor asked.
Jiang Feng opened his eyes.
He took off the oxygen mask and sat up from the stretcher.
"Not bad." Jiang Feng said, "Add two thousand."
"Thank you, Boss!" The doctor beamed, "So where to now? Back to the hospital?"
Jiang Feng glanced at the passing streetscape outside the window.
Half past three in the afternoon.
The sun was still scorching.
"Not to the hospital." Jiang Feng rubbed his wrist, where an indwelling needle was still inserted, but he pulled it out directly and pressed on the puncture site, "Go to the 4S dealership."
"Huh?" The doctor was stunned, "Buying a car?"
"This stretcher is too hard to lie on." Jiang Feng stretched his neck, his cervical spine making a clicking sound, "I still have to work tonight. I need to buy a car that I can lie down and earn money in."
