23: Chapter 23 Even the King of Heaven has to wait until it's time to leave work.
The temperature seemed to drop a few degrees.
The pool of blood left behind by A-Qiang had not yet dried, emitting a metallic, sweet scent.
The middle-aged man did not look at the blood on the ground, nor did he look at the influencers surrounding them who held up their phones but dared not get close.
He walked straight toward Jiang Feng.
His leather shoes clicked crisply against the floor tiles.
He was Li Cheng.
The big boss of Starlight Media, and the owner of this building.
A capital tycoon worth billions.
Just a moment ago, he had been overlooking the entire process from the floor-to-ceiling window on the top floor.
From An'an Jiang's breakdown to A-Qiang's collapse.
He was a shrewd businessman; he did not believe in ghosts or gods, only in profit.
But he was in trouble now.
The company's IPO was blocked, several top Streamers had crashed one after another, and the capital chain was tight.
He needed a definitive answer.
Even if this answer came from metaphysics.
Li Cheng walked up to the stall and looked down at Jiang Feng.
"Master."
Li Cheng's voice was steady, carrying the usual authority of someone in a high position.
"I am the owner of this building. I saw what happened just now. You have some skills."
He waved his hand.
The bodyguard behind him handed over a check.
Li Cheng held the check between two fingers and placed it on the dusty small table in front of Jiang Feng.
"Ten million."
Li Cheng said.
"I invite the Master to come upstairs for a cup of tea. Help me look at the company's feng shui, and also look at my fortune for these past few years."
The surrounding crowd let out a stifled gasp.
Ten million!
Just for a cup of tea, to have a fortune told!
This was money an ordinary person couldn't earn in several lifetimes.
The Streamers who were desperately dancing for a few hundred yuan in tips just a moment ago were so jealous their eyes turned red.
Is this the treatment a Master receives?
Everyone was staring at Jiang Feng.
No one would refuse this money.
No one dared to refuse Li Cheng's offer.
Jiang Feng kept his head down.
He was looking at his phone.
The numbers on the screen were ticking.
22:59:10.
22:59:11.
"Master?"
Li Cheng frowned, thinking it wasn't enough.
"Twenty million."
Li Cheng added another check.
"As long as your divination is accurate, you will be the feng shui consultant for Starlight Media from now on, and you can name your own annual salary."
This was not just money; it was a leap in social class.
Jiang Feng finally lifted his head.
He glanced at Li Cheng.
But.
A divination took at least one minute.
There wasn't enough time.
According to the system rules, the mission period ended at 23:00.
Once the mission period passed, he would just turn back into an ordinary person without any fortune-telling skills.
In other words, a charlatan.
Jiang Feng stuffed his phone back into his pocket.
He reached out and picked up the two checks.
A faint smile curled at the corner of Li Cheng's mouth.
Sure enough, no one could turn their back on money.
"Take it."
Jiang Feng handed the checks back to Li Cheng.
Li Cheng's smile stiffened.
"What do you mean?"
"It means I'm not taking this money."
Jiang Feng stood up, bent over to fold up the four corners of the blue cloth, and stuffed the cardboard into his canvas bag.
"Mr. Li, your tea is too expensive; I can't afford to drink it."
"And..."
Jiang Feng pointed to the electronic clock on the building not far away.
The numbers on it had just ticked over to 23:00.
"It is now time to clock out."
Jiang Feng slung the canvas bag over his shoulder and tucked the broken folding stool under his arm.
"I have a rule: I clock out on time. Even the King of Heaven has to wait if he comes."
The whole crowd was in an uproar.
Refused twenty million?
The reason was that it was time to clock out?
This reason was so absurd it felt ridiculous, yet so shocking it left people speechless.
Li Cheng's face darkened.
He had been calling the shots in this city for so many years; no one had ever dared to defy him like this.
"Not enough?"
Li Cheng took a step forward, blocking Jiang Feng's path.
"Young man, one must know how to seize opportunities. I can give you double the overtime pay."
Four bodyguards also gathered around, forming a human wall.
The atmosphere instantly became extremely tense.
Jiang Feng stopped in his tracks.
He looked at Li Cheng, his eyes as calm as water.
"Mr. Li."
Jiang Feng spoke.
"I don't care for money; I only want to save my life."
"Your forehead is darkened, and there is a broken line between your brows. The feng shui formation in this building is already broken; no amount of money can fill that hole."
Li Cheng's heart skipped a beat.
"What did you say?"
"If you want a reading, come early tomorrow."
Jiang Feng reached out and pushed aside the bodyguard blocking his way.
That bodyguard, a 1.9-meter-tall Big Guy, was pushed aside involuntarily by Jiang Feng's seemingly light nudge, clearing the path.
Jiang Feng squeezed out of the crowd without looking back.
His figure was thin, yet it looked like a sharp sword.
Li Cheng stood in place, clutching the two returned checks in his hand.
The wind blew, and the checks rustled.
He did not have anyone chase after him.
The young man's last sentence had struck the deepest fear in his heart.
The feng shui in this building was indeed broken.
And no one knew.
"Boss..." the bodyguard asked in a low voice.
"Go back."
Li Cheng turned around, watching Jiang Feng's disappearing back, his eyes complex.
"Find out where he lives. I want to see him first thing tomorrow morning."
...
Deep in the night.
Jiang Feng shook off any potential followers, took a long detour, and finally returned to where he lived.
He threw the canvas bag onto the sofa and collapsed onto it.
Exhausted.
Although the system had strengthened his body, this high-intensity mental exertion still left him exhausted.
【Today's mission period has ended.】
【Current progress: 2 / 3.】
【Mission status: Incomplete (Progress saved).】
【Hint: The host may continue to complete the remaining divination at the same time tomorrow.】
Jiang Feng let out a long sigh of relief.
The mission didn't have to be completed on the same day; it just needed to be within the specified time frame.
Jiang Feng opened his banking app.
That long string of numbers in his balance was still there.
Added to what the Shen Family gave him previously, along with various rewards.
He was a rich man now.
But looking at the empty room, looking at the bowl of unfinished, soggy instant noodles on the coffee table.
That sense of emptiness washed over him again.
He had money.
His life had been temporarily extended.
But this life was still being lived like a ghost.
Jiang Feng stood up and walked to the window.
Outside the window, the city was still brightly lit.
He touched the back of his head.
The tumor there was like a sleeping beast; although it was quiet now, it could wake up at any time.
"I need to treat myself better."
Jiang Feng looked at his own reflection in the glass.
"It's time to go on a revenge-spending spree!"
