2: Chapter 2: Each Divination is More Ruthless Than the Last
Amidst the girl's wailing and the man's following roars, the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau fell into chaos.
For the most convenient reading of Taiwan novels, look for the official sources.
The girl's best friend was busy comforting her, while the man tried to snatch back the debt certificate. The two pushed and pulled, drawing more and more onlookers.
Finally, the security guards maintaining order called the police to settle the farce.
And the instigator of it all, Jiang Feng, still sat on his small folding stool like an outsider.
The commotion just now hadn't scared the crowd away; instead, it made them even more curious about this fortune-telling stall.
When the onlookers looked at Jiang Feng again, the previous disdain was gone. They whispered among themselves and kept their distance.
"This isn't just fortune-telling; it's exposing someone's deepest secrets to their face!"
"Master! Master! Give me a reading!" A middle-aged man with a gold chain around his neck and a greasy face pushed through the crowd and rushed to the front of the stall.
He pulled out his wallet, grabbed a stack of hundred-yuan bills, and slapped them onto the blue cloth in front of Jiang Feng with a "thwack."
"Master, here’s ten thousand! Please take a look, I... how is my marriage luck?"
He originally wanted to ask about his wealth, but seeing the words "Specializing in Marriage Divination" on the stall, he immediately changed his tune.
Jiang Feng didn't look at the stack of money. He just lifted his eyelids, glanced at the man, and frowned slightly.
"Sir, your facial features are a bit strange."
The man with the gold chain froze: "Huh? How are they strange?"
Jiang Feng pointed below his own eyes, to the area of the lower eyelid, which is the Children's Palace in physiognomy.
"Your Children's Palace is full and smooth, with a healthy complexion. This indicates you have a deep bond with your children, and they are filial."
Hearing this, the man's face broke into a wide grin: "Master, you really are divine! My son just bought me a new car last month; he really is filial!"
"Do you have a photo of your family?"
"Yes, Master, take a look." The man fiddled with his phone and handed it to Jiang Feng.
"Strange..." Jiang Feng looked at the photo on the phone, then at the man. "Although your Children's Palace is good, your overall complexion doesn't match it. It's like a good field, but someone else's crops are growing in it."
The smile on the man's face vanished. "Master... what do you mean by that?"
Jiang Feng didn't answer directly, but instead asked, "Are you a businessman, sir?"
"Yes, yes, I run a small business."
"Then you usually have an eye for people. Have you ever wondered why both you and your wife have square faces and broad jaws, yet your son has an oval face with delicate features?"
The man's breathing hitched.
It wasn't that no one had ever mentioned this before.
When he was younger, the neighbors loved to joke that his wife was beautiful and their son didn't look like him at all, only inheriting the best traits.
He had always taken it as a compliment and hadn't thought much of it.
Jiang Feng watched as the color drained from the man's face and continued.
"Physiognomy says that bloodline inheritance must show in the features. Bone structure and contours are the foundation and the hardest to change. Your son's brow bone height and jaw width don't resemble yours or your wife's in any way. This kind of 'mismatched roots' appearance is unusual."
Jiang Feng stopped speaking and took a sip of the cold tea beside him.
He didn't say "your son isn't yours"; he only pointed out the suspicious points in the facial features.
But these doubts caused the man's heart to sink.
He stood there dazed, mouth half-open, eyes bloodshot.
Many details he had never cared about suddenly surfaced:
When his son was little, people always said he looked like the neighbor who had moved away early;
His wife was becoming increasingly cold toward him, yet she granted their son's every wish;
And... that face of his son's, which didn't resemble his younger self in the slightest.
A buzzing sound filled the man's head, and his mind went blank.
He stumbled back two steps and slumped onto the ground, his eyes vacant as he muttered, "Not alike... he really isn't alike..."
The surrounding crowd went silent at first, then erupted into suppressed gasps.
Everyone looked at the despondent man with complex expressions.
Another one! As soon as this Master spoke, another family was about to fall apart!
[Ding! Effective Divinations: 2/3]
Jiang Feng remained indifferent to his surroundings, his gaze sweeping past the crowd to find his next target.
This time, before he could speak, a nanny in a floral blouse supporting a white-haired old man squeezed through.
"Master! Master! It's our turn! Please take a look, me and Old Zhang—is our marriage going to be good? We just want some good luck!" the nanny shouted loudly.
The old man was being pushed by her, not knowing where to put his hands, stammering, "Ma... Master..."
Jiang Feng looked at the nanny, and with just one glance, his expression darkened.
"Madam, your cheekbones are high and protruding, your nose bridge is knotted, and your lips are thin. These are signs of a cold and harsh nature. The whites of your eyes are more prominent than the pupils, which is known as 'Sanpaku eyes'."
Jiang Feng's voice wasn't loud, but it was enough for the people around to hear clearly. "The books on physiognomy say, 'Sanpaku eyes, an unkind heart.' You aren't seeking marriage; you're seeking this old gentleman's estate, aren't you?"
The nanny's face turned pale instantly, and she shrieked, "You're slandering me! We are truly in love! Old Zhang, tell the Master quickly!"
She pinched the old man's arm hard.
The old man winced in pain and was frightened by Jiang Feng's words, stammering and unable to speak.
Ignoring the nanny, Jiang Feng turned to the old man and said, "Sir, your Property Palace is broad and full. Your family background is good, and you have at least one house."
"But now, a layer of dark, bluish energy hangs over your Property Palace. This is an ill omen of 'The Dove Occupying the Magpie's Nest.' Someone is plotting to take your house."
Jiang Feng pointed at the nanny. "She's coaxing you into a fake marriage to help you take out a loan for your son's wedding house. As soon as the property deed has her name on it, you'll be kicked out the next day. You see her as a savior, but she's here to pick your bones clean."
"I... I didn't!" the nanny was still struggling.
"You have a mole in your left eyebrow, called 'A Pearl Hidden in the Eyebrow,' which originally signifies wealth. But your mole is dull and misshapen; it is a 'Cunning Pearl'."
Jiang Feng's voice remained flat. "People with this kind of mole specialize in betraying others' trust. Using this trick to swindle an old man's life savings—this isn't the first time you've done this, is it?"
With those words, the nanny could no longer hold on.
She gave a strange cry and turned to run out of the crowd.
But the nearby elderly men and women had already seen enough. They swarmed forward and pinned her to the ground.
The old man slumped to the ground, his back drenched in cold sweat, repeatedly muttering, "Thank you... thank you, Master..."
[Ding! Three divination tasks completed!]
[Settling rewards...]
[Congratulations, Host! Brain cancer cell activity reduced by 5%, remaining lifespan increased by 30 days!]
[Congratulations, Host! Received a cash reward of 1 million!]
The system's voice echoed in his mind.
The sharp pain that had been lurking in his brain lessened significantly, and his vision was no longer blurred.
Jiang Feng let out a long sigh of relief.
He had survived.
He glanced at the time on his phone: 14:58.
Task complete. Time to get off work.
