93: Chapter 93 The End of a Tycoon
The direction Petersen pointed to was the cruise ship's central command room.
Jiang Feng and Zhao Yi exchanged a look, asked no further questions, and followed.
Inside the command room, over a hundred surveillance monitors covered the entire wall, giving a full view of every corner of the cruise ship.
Technicians wearing uniforms from various countries were busy at the control consoles, the atmosphere tense yet orderly.
"Give them the two most comfortable seats," Petersen ordered without turning his head.
A duty soldier immediately brought over two high-backed cushioned chairs and placed them behind Petersen.
Jiang Feng sat down without standing on ceremony, feeling as if he were watching an IMAX movie.
"Tsk, this VIP viewing spot is not bad," he muttered inwardly. "Too bad there's no popcorn, one star."
Zhao Yi stood beside him, his body still tense, his gaze sweeping rapidly across the complex screens, trying to understand the current tactical deployment.
"Captain Zhao, relax," Jiang Feng patted the empty chair next to him. "Since you're already here, just sit down and watch. Standing room and seated tickets cost the same anyway."
Zhao Yi ignored him, his gaze locked onto one of the screens.
On the screen, Reynolds was leading two trusted subordinates in different uniforms, escorting Mr. K, whose hands were cuffed behind his back, along a narrow internal corridor.
The corridor was dimly lit, crisscrossed with pipes, and was one of the few areas on the cruise ship with weak surveillance signals.
"Commander," a technician stood up to report. "Liaison Officer Reynolds has entered the maintenance tunnel. The surveillance signal in that area is being interfered with by the ship's structure, so the feed may be interrupted."
"Understood," Petersen's voice was devoid of emotion. "Maintain signal tracking."
On the main screen, the figures of Reynolds and his group indeed became blurry, and static began to appear on the feed.
Zhao Yi's fists clenched involuntarily.
"That bastard is about to make a move."
Jiang Feng crossed his legs and shifted into a more comfortable position.
"Don't rush, the good show is just beginning."
In the surveillance feed, Reynolds stopped walking.
He turned his head and glanced back toward the entrance of the corridor, seemingly checking if anyone had followed.
The signal was interrupted for a few seconds at this moment, and when it recovered, only blurry silhouettes remained.
But the movements of the three were still clearly distinguishable.
Reynolds pulled something out from his coat.
The object was long and thin, reflecting a cold metallic light in the dim illumination.
It was a pistol with a silencer.
Reynolds raised his hand, the pitch-black muzzle aiming at Mr. K's back.
The two trusted subordinates beside him also drew their guns simultaneously, aiming at Mr. K's temples.
"Damn, he's really trying to silence him," Jiang Feng whistled inwardly. "Ruthless, not leaving him any way out."
In the command room, everyone held their breath.
Everyone's gaze was focused on the screen that was about to witness a murder.
Only Petersen remained expressionless.
Just at the moment when Reynolds's finger was about to pull the trigger.
A sudden change occurred.
The wall panels above and on both sides of Reynolds and his two men suddenly swung open.
Those weren't walls at all, but disguised secret doors!
Several black shadows descended from above, landing silently on the ground.
Immediately after, behind the secret doors, over a dozen fully armed SWAT officers holding assault rifles and wearing night-vision goggles surged out like a tide.
Pitch-black muzzles locked onto Reynolds and his two men from all directions.
The sinister grin on Reynolds's face froze.
His hand holding the gun also stopped in mid-air.
In the command room, Petersen picked up the microphone in front of him.
"Liaison Officer Reynolds."
"You and your men are now officially under arrest for the suspected murder of a key witness, treason, and multiple other charges."
"Drop your weapons."
The color drained from Reynolds's face in an instant.
He didn't understand.
The plan was flawless, the operation extremely secretive; why was it exposed?
He turned his head to look at Mr. K, who was supposed to be a ghost under his gun.
Mr. K was also looking at him.
There was no relief on Mr. K's face for having survived, nor any joy at seeing his enemy caught.
His eyes held an unprecedented look of bewilderment and confusion.
He watched this dramatic scene before him, watched those soldiers descending from the sky, and watched Reynolds's distorted face.
He suddenly recalled the words Jiang Feng had said in his room.
"The end of a warlord is also the trap of a dragon."
"There is a thorn in your heart."
"You think you are avenging her by building this kingdom of sin. In reality, you are killing the most precious thing she left you over and over again."
So, the so-called kingdom of sin was just a joke from beginning to end.
The partner he was so proud of, his most trusted ally, never intended to let him live from the very beginning.
He thought he was the chess player, stirring up the world's landscape.
In the end, he realized he was just a chess piece.
A discarded piece that could be cleared away at any moment.
"Heh..."
"Hehehehe..."
Mr. K suddenly began to laugh.
The laughter was filled with endless sorrow and self-mockery.
He laughed at his own life of ruthless killing, his hands stained with blood, thinking he had seen through human nature and played with power.
Yet in the end, he was the most foolish, most pathetic person.
This despair of being backstabbed by his most trusted person completely shattered his already riddled psychological defenses.
The SWAT officers rushed up, disarmed the dispirited Reynolds and his two subordinates who had already given up resistance, and locked them in shackles.
Zhao Yi and several other police officers also arrived at the scene from the command room, starting to take custody of the prisoners and conduct follow-up evidence collection.
Mr. K stood in the center of the chaos.
He did not resist, nor did he run.
He just slowly turned around, his gaze crossing the crowd, finally landing on the young man who had just walked out of the command room.
"Master Jiang..."
"Your prediction... was truly accurate..."
"I... have been... abandoned by everyone..."
After finishing this sentence, the light in his eyes was completely extinguished.
He lowered his head, his entire spirit and will collapsing in this moment.
Zhao Yi stepped forward and gently locked a pair of handcuffs onto his wrists.
This time, Mr. K did not have any reaction.
The commotion on the cruise ship gradually subsided.
Reynolds and his men were taken away, and Mr. K was also re-detained, awaiting the harshest judgment from the International Court.
After handling the scene, Commander Petersen strode over to Jiang Feng.
He looked Jiang Feng up and down with a gaze as if looking at a monster.
He looked for a full half minute.
"Mr. Jiang."
"I don't know who you really are, nor do I know what method you used."
Petersen extended his hand.
"But I owe you a favor."
Jiang Feng shook his hand with a smile on his face.
"Just a small favor."
A heavy military helicopter landed slowly on the deck of the neptune.
The huge rotor blades kicked up a gale, making it impossible for people to open their eyes.
Jiang Feng and Zhao Yi, escorted by several SWAT officers, boarded the helicopter.
The helicopter lifted off and flew toward Jinghai City.
The neptune beneath them became smaller and smaller in their view.
This crisis was finally completely resolved.
Zhao Yi leaned back against the seat and let out a long breath.
He turned his head to look at Jiang Feng beside him.
Jiang Feng was leaning against the window, watching the clouds rapidly receding outside, not knowing what he was thinking about.
"Brother Jiang," Zhao Yi couldn't help but say, "This time... thank you, really."
"If it weren't for you, I might... my sister would also..."
"Alright," Jiang Feng interrupted him. "Don't say sappy things, it sounds cringey."
He turned back and grinned at Zhao Yi.
"If you really want to thank me, just treat me to a good meal later."
"Preferably three-star Michelin; I've never had that before."
