Chapter 180: Other Patients
Chapter 180: Other Patients
The officer on the other end of the line was clueless too, shaking his head slightly.
Then he spoke with urgency, "Admiral Thaddeus’s psychic world is completely wrecked, and his Psychic Incarnation is gone. The hospital is barely keeping him alive. The only hope is to find Arix, who developed the psychic healer. She might be able to save him. So, sir, we need Arix here, and fast!"
Sykes responded, "Got it! Hang tight! I’ll be there!" He hung up and rushed into the medical room, scooping up the unconscious Arix from her bed.
"Sir, what are you doing...?" a medical staff member asked, puzzled.
"I’m taking her to save someone," Sykes answered briskly, hurrying out. The medical team watched him leave, shaking their heads in disbelief.
They turned back to Drexel’s bed, only to see it empty.
’Where did HE go? He just vanished into thin air?’ They couldn’t believe it and searched the room, even checking under the bed.
Just as they considered reporting it, a message from Sykes came through: "Your patient left with me. No need to report."
The medical staff were speechless. They couldn’t stand patients who ignored the medical team and family members who didn’t respect boundaries.
On the Space Station, Sykes, carrying Arix, looked seriously at Drexel and asked, "Are you sure you want to come with me? Can you handle it?"
"I’m fine, sir, let’s go," Drexel replied, despite feeling weak and exhausted. He was worried about his father and sister, pushing through his fatigue.
He had a nagging feeling something was seriously wrong. Sykes and Arix’s strange behavior, especially Arix crying for their father, made him think it wasn’t just about losing a game.
The more Drexel thought about it, the more guilty he felt for not realizing sooner.
Seeing he couldn’t change Drexel’s mind, Sykes gave him a long, thoughtful look and sighed, "Alright, come with me."
With that, Sykes led the siblings to the warp machine, and they began their journey through the space tunnel.
...
At the hospital where Thaddeus stayed, the top floor was filled with officers, all looking grim as they waited in the hallway.
With Thaddeus in critical condition, representatives from various legions were present, including Matis, Marlone, and the President of the Alliance, Zeta.
Despite their high ranks, everyone wore expressions of deep concern.
Matis, Thaddeus’s father, suddenly had streaks of white hair.
Among all the people gathered, Sylis was probably feeling the worst. If it hadn’t been for him, Thaddeus wouldn’t be lying in that hospital bed—but, they wouldn’t have gotten three critical condition notices in just one hour, either.
Sylis hung his head in shame, clutching his hair tightly, caught between hope and fear—hoping for Thaddeus to pull through and dreading any bad news.
He couldn’t imagine what he would do if Thaddeus couldn’t make it, and how he could possibly compensate the Kering family.
Just then, the hospital room door flew open, and the chief doctor urgently called out, "Is Arix here yet? Admiral Thaddeus is barely holding on! His consciousness is fading!!"
Matis was deeply shaken by the doctor’s words, nearly stumbling, but Marlone caught him in time, preventing any embarrassment.
The crowd around them buzzed with activity, some urging Sykes to hurry, others pressing the doctor for updates.
"Maybe you should go home and rest," Marlone suggested, worried about both his Matis’ health and Thaddeus’s condition.
But Matis just shook his head silently, his voice hoarse as he asked, "Is there still hope?"
"Yes, there’s still hope! Of course, there’s hope! Don’t you trust me? And don’t you trust Arix? She can definitely save Thaddeus," Marlone reassured, though he was unsure himself.
He had to keep Matis calm, even if it meant exaggerating Arix’s abilities. Matis seemed to calm down a bit and joined the others in trying to reach Sykes.
Meanwhile, Sykes, overwhelmed with calls, had no time to answer them. He was tearing through the capital city’s downtown, driving a Lev vehicle at breakneck speed towards the hospital.
He ran red lights, sped through the streets, drove the wrong way, and cut across lanes recklessly. His wild driving soon attracted a swarm of airborne police robots, trailing him and issuing warnings.
"Vehicle ahead, you have violated traffic regulations. Please pull over immediately to receive your penalty!"
"Vehicle ahead, you have violated traffic regulations. Please pull over immediately to receive your penalty!"
"Vehicle ahead, you have violated traffic regulations. Please pull over immediately to receive your penalty!"
"Forget your penalties! If you delay me from saving a life, I’ll smash your boss’s office tomorrow!" Sykes shouted, hitting the gas even harder, leaving the police robots behind in an instant.
"Sir, can we go any faster? I can feel Dad’s getting worse," Arix urged, her face pale with worry.
She’d jolted awake as soon as Thaddeus’s consciousness began to fade. Now, all she could think about was getting to her father in time to save him.
"Alright, hang on!" Sykes gritted his teeth and decided to take a risky shortcut, flying directly over a residential area towards the hospital.
This reckless maneuver not only set off alarms for the airborne police robots but also triggered the police alerts. Soon, the wail of police sirens echoed throughout the city center.
At the hospital, the chief doctor was pacing in distress, repeatedly asking, "Where is Arix? Why hasn’t she arrived yet?!"
The officers exchanged anxious glances, unsure of what to do. Just then, a loud shout rang out from a distance. "Clear the way! Clear the way! Everyone, move!"
The shout caught everyone off guard. They looked around, confused, until someone pointed up and yelled, "Look, it’s a Lev!"
"What’s the big deal about a Lev?" an officer asked, puzzled. But when they looked up, they saw the Lev vehicle hurtling towards the hospital—without slowing down at all, as if it was about to crash right into the building!
"Damn it! Move aside! Can’t you hear me?" Sykes shouted at the top of his lungs.
But the crowd he was yelling at didn’t get mad; instead, they got even more excited. They started chanting along with Sykes, "Clear the way, clear the way! Arix is coming!!"
As soon as they heard Arix’s name, everyone quickly shuffled to the sides of the hallway.
Sykes let out a sigh of relief, then, with a determined look in his eyes, he allowed the Lev to slam into the floor-to-ceiling windows of the hospital.
CRASH! The glass shattered with a loud noise, shards flying everywhere.
At last, Arix had arrived at the hospital, just as everyone had been eagerly anticipating.
She kicked open the Lev door, ready to rush out, but a doctor, even more frantic than she was, quickly pulled her into the treatment room.
Once the treatment room door shut, everyone outside exhaled in relief. Just then, a squad of airborne police robots finally showed up. They came in through the broken window, surrounding Sykes with their energy guns aimed straight at him.
"Admiral Sykes, you are under arrest. Please come with us," the robots stated in their usual monotone.
Sykes shot an irritated look at the robots, clicking his tongue in annoyance. He turned to Zeta, and said, "You, make sure to come to the police station and bail me out."
Zeta grinned and nodded, "Sure thing, Uncle Sykes. Don’t worry."
With a slight pout, Sykes looked back at the air police and said, "Alright, let’s get this over with. I’m starving. Maybe I’ll grab a bite at your station."
"Sir, meals are provided at specific times. You will need to wait three hours," the robot replied flatly.
"Three hours?! You robots are so heartless," Sykes grumbled, following the robots to the police vehicle.
"We are robots; we have no need for food. If you’re that hungry, we can get you something at the drive-through or you can place an order online," the robot responded seriously.
"Now that’s an idea. Let’s get moving; I’m starving," Sykes said as he was led away. The crowd, who had been amused by the exchange, finally focused back on the treatment room door.
The officers relaxed and started chatting about Sykes and his peculiar meal plans. Suddenly, a door creaked open, but it wasn’t the treatment room door. It was... the Lev.
