Chapter 264: Another Transmigrator
Chapter 264: Another Transmigrator
Arix’s mind raced, but then a lightbulb went off, and her eyes lit up. "Sekhmet, have you thought about talking to the Pontifex of the Empire of Sacred Moonlight? He might know a way to send you back to Earth."
She suggested it with confidence—after all, Arix was living proof that returning home was possible.
But Sekhmet just gave her a bitter smile, shaking her head. "It’s no use. I’ve tried every method this world has to offer."
Arix was left speechless. ’So, because you can’t find a way back, your plan is to destroy this world?’
"But," Sekhmet continued, her voice a little softer, "days ago, I finally found a way."
"A way?" Arix echoed, feeling a pit form in her stomach. She already had a sinking feeling this wasn’t going to be good news. Curiosity still got the best of her, though.
Sekhmet’s eyes flickered with a mix of emotions before her expression hardened. "A powerful person told me that if I kill you, he can send me home."
Arix felt like the ground had just dropped out from under her. She almost stumbled, her breath catching in her throat as she nervously swallowed, trying to keep herself steady.
With a forced smile, she tried to talk her way out. "Sekhmet, maybe he’s lying to you?"
Sekhmet shook her head. "I can’t tell you who he is, but I will say this: if he can’t send me back, no one can."
Her eyes were filled with an apologetic sadness as she looked straight at Arix. "So, I’m sorry, Arix. If I want to go home, I have no choice but to kill you."
’What the HECK?’
Arix was so stunned she nearly blurted out the curse.
Sure, she got that Sekhmet wanted to go home, but did that really mean she had to kill HER to do it?
"Gosh, what kind of cosmic joke is this? Why do I have to be the target of this insane plan?"
Arix opened her mouth to argue, to reason with Sekhmet, but before she could say a word, Sekhmet launched a sudden attack.
Arix barely managed to dodge, and the blow smashed into the ground with a deafening "Boom!"
The impact sent dust flying everywhere, and as it cleared, Arix’s eyes widened in shock. The ground where the attack landed had split wide open, forming a massive canyon right before her eyes.
’Is this even human power?’ Arix’s heart pounded.
The sheer danger of the moment stirred something within the psychic world she shared with her four small companions. They flew to her side, their eyes locked on Sekhmet, looking deadly serious.
"How does she have the power of a god?" Cupid asked, confusion flickering in his usually innocent eyes.
"Right? In smaller worlds, the strongest beings are barely demigods. Even your grandfather is a barely demigod," Vita added, shaking her head, equally bewildered.
"This isn’t right," Sylvana said, her voice sharp and serious as her gaze narrowed at Sekhmet.
The others turned to Sylvana, waiting for her to explain.
"A god must’ve lent her this power," Sylvana concluded grimly.
Everyone went silent, their faces reflecting the same growing sense of dread.
’Which god is after Arix this time? What did she do to keep getting tangled in their games?’
"What do we do? Even if we combine our powers, we’re barely at the level of a fake demigod. We can’t take her on!" Cupid’s voice trembled with anxiety.
Before anyone could respond, Sekhmet began to advance toward them, her expression cold and emotionless.
"Arix, stop. You can’t win this fight," Sekhmet said flatly, like she was stating a fact. Her voice lacked any hint of malice.
She didn’t want to kill Arix, not really. But after a thousand years of being trapped, she was done waiting. This was her only shot at getting home.
’Why can’t Arix see that?’ As Sekhmet wrestled with her thoughts, the clear reasoning in her eyes was quickly consumed by an almost fanatical determination. She unleashed her full power, rushing at Arix with everything she had.
Arix tried to dodge, but Sekhmet was too fast. A blinding blow struck her before she could even react, and she was sent hurtling through the air, crashing hard into the ground.
"Ugh!" Arix coughed up blood as the pendant shattered around her neck.
"Arix!" The four little ones cried out in panic, rushing to her side.
"She survived that?" Sekhmet stared at her hand in surprise. That hit should’ve killed even a demigod.
She didn’t dwell on it for long. In a flash, she summoned a blade of light in her hand, aimed straight for Arix’s heart.
The four little beings didn’t waste a second. Without hesitation, they flung themselves in front of Arix, shielding her from the devastating attack.
"No!" Arix gasped, trying to stop them, struggling to get to her feet.
But how could they, as small as they were, stand up to the power of a god?
In the blink of an eye, Sekhmet’s light blade shattered the psychic barrier they created and pierced through their tiny bodies.
The force of the blade dissolved, its power weakened before it could reach Arix. But it was too late for her companions.
Their small, furry forms began to fall from the sky, transparent and fading.
Arix scrambled to catch them, her heart in her throat.
When she saw their fragile bodies slowly turning into light, tears welled up in her eyes, blurring her vision.
"Cupid! Vita! Sophia! Sylvana!" Arix’s voice shook with fear like it had never before. She’d never been this scared. "Are you okay? Please be okay!"
But as her fingers passed through their disappearing forms, the reality sank in.
Her fear turned into something darker, something raw and heart-wrenching.
Uncontrollable tears poured down her face, blurring the edges of the fading creatures she had fought so hard to protect.
Vita and Sophia lay motionless, their small bodies no longer stirring.
They hadn’t been built for battle, and now they had fallen unconscious from the sheer force of Sekhmet’s attack.
Cupid, barely hanging on, took shallow, fading breaths. His voice, weak and faint, reached Arix.
"Arix... run... run..." he murmured, still trying to protect her even as the last of his strength ebbed away. But before he could say more, Cupid’s eyes closed, and he too slipped into unconsciousness.
Just as Arix’s heart shattered, Sylvana’s voice broke through her pain.
"Arix."
Her head snapped up, tears still streaking her face. "Sylvana," she whispered, her voice raw with emotion.
Despite the heavy wounds she had taken, Sylvana’s expression remained soft, filled with the same protective warmth Arix had always known. She glanced once more at their fallen companions before turning back to Arix.
"Arix, there’s one way to awaken my full power early," Sylvana began, her voice gentle but firm. "But you need to be strong. Don’t grieve for me. Maybe one day, we’ll meet again."
"No!" Arix’s voice trembled, her heart filling with panic. She already had an idea of what Sylvana was about to do. "I don’t want this. I can’t lose you!"
"Arix, be good," Sylvana whispered softly, her final words carrying a tender warmth. Then, in a brilliant flash of golden light, she poured her essence into Arix’s heart.
The moment the light surged into Arix’s body, an overwhelming force exploded from her chest. The sheer energy was so intense it sent ripples through the air around her, distorting the very space.
Feeling the loss deep in her soul, Arix let out a scream, raw and filled with agony.
"No! Sylvana!" she cried, collapsing to her knees. Her face twisted in pure despair, her heart breaking into a million pieces as the reality of what just happened hit her.
A heart-wrenching scream tore from her throat, echoing across the battlefield, her pain too great to hold back.
