Chapter 181: Saving Thaddeus
Chapter 181: Saving Thaddeus
The Alliance officers turned their heads in shock, seeing someone else emerging from inside Lev.
Drexel, who had been mostly ignored in the chaos, shakily opened the Lev door and managed to climb out, clearly struggling.
He looked pale and exhausted, like he might pass out at any moment. He turned to the crowd and said weakly, "Could someone call a doctor for me, please?"
And then, Drexel collapsed to the ground.
Marlone and Matis, recognizing him as their grandson and nephew, rushed over in concern. After a quick check, they found that Drexel was just extremely tired and not seriously hurt.
Once Matis knew Drexel was okay, his concern quickly shifted to criticism. He looked at Marlone with a hint of disapproval and said, "Have you not been training him properly while he’s been on leave from the academy? Look at him, so fragile."
"Sorry, it’s my fault. I’ll make sure he toughens up when we get back," Marlone responded earnestly.
"Good. He needs to be toughened up. When you’re back, train him hard, as long as it doesn’t kill him. Got it?" Matis instructed, nodding with approval.
"Got it," Marlone agreed, looking serious.
The nearby officers, overhearing this exchange, couldn’t help but feel sorry for Drexel. They silently wished him good luck, thinking, ’Hang in there, kid.’
Meanwhile, inside the treatment room, Arix had just entered and saw her father, Thaddeus, lying on the hospital bed.
His face was pale, and his breathing was shallow, making Arix’s eyes fill with tears.
"Dad," Arix whispered, gently taking Thaddeus’s hand. But there was no usual response from him; he just lay there, unresponsive.
Tears rolled down Arix’s cheeks uncontrollably. She knew her father was still in danger, so she sniffed and tried to hold back her sobs.
Then, with a hoarse voice, she addressed the doctors, "I’m sorry, but could you please leave us for a moment? I’ll take it from here."
The medical staff hesitated, looking to the lead doctor for guidance. The doctor didn’t object; instead, he bowed slightly and said, "Miss Kering, we trust him in your care."
Arix nodded slightly and waited for the medical team to leave. She then focused on her father’s chest and spoke in a calm tone, "Who are you?"
From the moment she held her father’s hand, Arix had sensed something unusual—a familiar energy around her father’s heart. It felt more protective than harmful, so she hadn’t acted right away.
After a brief silence, just as Arix thought there would be no response, a small, ethereal creature appeared, hovering above Thaddeus’s heart.
It looked like a delicate version of Cupid, with two tiny horns and a gentle energy.
The creature had bright green eyes that radiated a soothing, all-encompassing calmness, as if anyone who gazed into those eyes could find peace and redemption.
"Hello, my name is Sylvana, or you could say, I’m your past life," the small Sylvana said, her entire presence exuding a sense of nobility and grace as she spoke.
Arix stared at the unbelievably adorable Sylvana, feeling a bit stunned. It was hard to believe something could be cuter than Cupid and the rest. The whole scene felt oddly familiar to Arix, like something straight out of a story.
It reminded her of the dynamic between Kikyo and Kagome, with Sylvana as Kikyo and herself as Kagome. Arix felt relieved there wasn’t an "Inuyasha" figure around to complicate things further with a tangled love triangle.
But then, thinking back to the scenes she saw in her previous life, Arix suddenly asked, "Hello, Sylvana, I’m Arix. So... do you like Cupid and the others?"
As soon as the words left her mouth, Arix worried she might have been too direct. She was about to apologize when she noticed that little Sylvana was actually blushing.
Arix thought to herself, ’Whoa! It seems I may have just stumbled onto something big!’
Arix was a bit taken aback but realized it made sense.
Her three little ones were so charming, it wasn’t surprising someone would be drawn to them. She relaxed and asked thoughtfully, "Do you want me to bring Cupid and the others out to meet you?"
Sylvana shook her head gently. "Let’s meet them later. For now, we need to focus on saving your father."
Hearing this, Arix perked up, excitement in her voice, "Do you have a way to save my dad?"
Arix wasn’t entirely sure she could save Thaddeus, but Sylvana’s confidence gave her hope.
The more she thought about it, the more excited she became, her eyes sparkling as she looked at the gentle creature in front of her with a big smile.
But Sylvana shook her head again and said, "It’s not me who will save him; it’s you."
Arix felt a bit confused, not fully grasping what Sylvana meant. She knew her own strengths and weaknesses, and if she could’ve saved her dad, she would have done it already.
"Don’t doubt yourself," Sylvana said with a warm smile. "Even though I am Sylvana, I’m just a streak of her soul with memories. You are the one who truly holds Sylvana’s power now, so only you can save your father."
Arix felt a mix of understanding and confusion. But one thing was clear: she could save her dad!
"Okay, what do I need to do?" Arix asked anxiously, glancing at Thaddeus, who lay barely breathing on the bed.
"Don’t worry, I’m here to help," Sylvana reassured her. Without delay, she began to act. She flapped her wings and floated up, a bright golden eblem appearing on her forehead. Sylvana then placed her paws on Arix’s head and pressed their foreheads together.
This familiar gesture made Arix blink, sparking a memory. ’I’ve done something like this before? Is it about unlocking the genetic lock again?’
Sylvana, temporarily tuned into Arix’s thoughts through the contact, felt a wave of sympathy. She explained, "Arix, even though you carry the power of a deity, you’re a new life created from the fusion of my and the tiger’s spirits. That’s why you haven’t naturally developed powers like other cubs. It’s also why you’ve forgotten how to use Sylvana’s abilities."
"Does that mean if I can use Sylvana’s power, I can save my dad?" Arix asked, not feeling sad about the revelation. She never really thought of herself as a deity; she even often forgot she was the pure-blood heir of the Tiger clan.
Seeing that Arix was handling the news well, Sylvana relaxed and nodded. "Yes, Sylvana’s power can save your father. I’ll share all my memories with you. They might not be complete, but they’ll be enough to save him. I hope that’s okay."
"I don’t mind at all! Let’s hurry," Arix replied eagerly, her eyes on her father lying on the bed.
Sylvana chuckled at Arix’s enthusiasm. She then closed her eyes and began transferring her memories to Arix.
Unlike the first time Arix encountered such a process, this one didn’t give her a headache. Instead, it felt soothing, almost like a gentle head massage.
When it was done, Arix felt refreshed and ready.
Arix quickly moved to Thaddeus and placed her hands on him. Even with the incomplete memories, she knew exactly what to do. She glanced at Sylvana and nodded slightly.
Sylvana understood the cue and transformed into a stream of psychic energy, merging into Arix’s heart.
Sylvana’s power was housed within Arix’s heart, and Sylvana herself was the key to unlocking it.
With Sylvana in place, Arix closed her eyes and channeled the power from her heart throughout her body. A soft golden energy flowed from her hands, wrapping Thaddeus in a warm cocoon of light.
"Is this enough?" Arix asked, looking anxiously at her father encased in the golden glow.
Sylvana reappeared and nodded confidently, "Yes, it’s enough. Once he absorbs this energy, he’ll wake up."
Arix sighed in relief, finally feeling at ease. Her father was going to be okay.
Suddenly, she remembered something. "By the way, Sylvana, can my dad’s Psychic Incarnation be saved?" Arix recalled someone mentioning that her father’s Psychic Incarnation was gone. Losing it was like losing a part of oneself; her father would be heartbroken.
Sylvana knew about the Psychic Incarnation. He had sacrificed himelf to protect Thaddeus, saving him from the insectoids when he fell into the abyss.
Unfortunately, by the time Sylvana arrived, the two-tailed cat Incarnation had already been lost, consumed by the insectoids. She had barely managed to save Thaddeus in time.
Sylvana sighed and shook her head, looking regretful. "I’m sorry, Arix. My memories are incomplete. If they were whole, reviving a small creature like a Psychic Incarnation wouldn’t be too difficult."
Arix took a deep breath and forced a smile. "It’s okay. I’m just grateful that my dad is alive."
Even as she spoke, a flicker of sadness crossed her face. She lowered her head, thinking about the loss of the Psychic Incarnation. She wondered if there was any way to revive it or possibly create a new one.
But no matter how much she thought about it, nothing came to mind. The idea itself seemed far-fetched—most people didn’t even know what a Psychic Incarnation was, and here she was, contemplating creating one.
She knew that if others heard her idea, they’d probably think she was out of her mind.
Finally, Arix decided to set the thought aside for now and research it more thoroughly when she had time.
Right now, there was something even more important that needed her attention.
