Chapter 69: Last Glimmer of Hope

With newfound determination, Arix asked Vita, "What do we need to do next? Tell me. I’ll do anything!"

Vita looked at Arix, suddenly so energetic, and shook his head indulgently. "No, leave the rest to me. I’ll gather and repair the usable psychic fragments. It might take some time, so you should inform the people outside."

"How long will it take?" Arix asked.

"About three days," Vita estimated.

"Alright... I guess," Arix said, her breath catching. It was a long time. She’d better go out and explain the situation.

Arix left Draven’s psychic world and opened her eyes.

"Miss Kering, can Draven be saved?" Nyx asked anxiously.

Varden didn’t speak but looked at Arix, waiting for her answer.

"He can be saved, but it will take some time," Arix said, glancing at Varden nervously.

Varden was surprised that Draven could still be saved, but seeing Arix’s nervous expression, he had a bad feeling. It seemed like Arix might be causing trouble for him.

Taking a deep breath, Varden asked, "How long? Just give me a number."



"Three days," Arix replied, her eyes darting around nervously.

Varden’s heart skipped a beat. He exclaimed, "Arix! Do you think I’m a god? How can I hide the fact that someone is alive for three days?"

"What can we do? Draven’s psychic world is too damaged. It takes that long to fix it," Arix said, feeling aggrieved.

"Miss Kering, don’t worry. I’ll guard you for these three days and let no one near unless they step over my dead body," Nyx said excitedly, not thinking twice now that Draven could be saved.

Fortunately, Varden didn’t argue with the temporarily irrational Nyx. Instead, he sighed and said, "Arix, it’s impossible to hide this. I’ll inform Grandpa and see if he can help us."

"Okay! Varden, it’s all up to you. I’m going back in," Arix said, trusting Varden’s intelligence.

"Be careful," Varden reminded, his concern for his cousin evident.

"Okay," Arix said. She closed her eyes and returned her consciousness to Vita’s side.

Varden looked at Arix and sighed. Then, he resignedly opened his opticomputer and sent a video request to Sims.

"Varden, what’s up?" Sims answered quickly, but he looked tired and lacked his usual energy. He was probably still upset about not being able to help Draven earlier.

"Grandpa, I need to tell you something, but you have to promise not to get upset," Varden said, adjusting his glasses.

"Oh, go ahead. Today, even if you cause a big problem, I won’t get mad at you. I’m just too tired and don’t have the energy," Sims replied wearily.

Varden’s eyes lit up, and he quickly said, "Grandpa, you said it. If you don’t keep your promise..."

Sims snorted and said irritably, "What is it? Just tell me, okay? Why are you taking so long?"

"I can’t say it over the opticomputer. Why don’t you come to my dormitory?" Varden suggested.

"I’m not going. I already told you, I’m too tired and don’t have the energy. I don’t want to go anywhere today," Sims said with a hint of frustration. He felt useless for not being able to save someone despite his many years of medical experience.



"Grandpa, it’s not that I want you to come. It’s your precious little Moon Pie who’s in big trouble. If you don’t come, she’s done for," Varden said urgently.

"What the heck? What kind of scam is this? Did you burned the whole training base down or something?" Sims scoffed, not believing him. He knew how strong Arix’s psychic power was, and nothing could happen to a powerful person like that.

Varden was speechless. This was so typical—people always think he was lying when he was finally telling the truth.

"Master Sims, Varden isn’t lying. Miss Kering really needs your help," Nyx suddenly said, appearing on the 3D virtual screen.

Sims’ eyes widened, and he looked at Nyx in shock.

He rubbed his eyes and looked again.

It was Nyx’s face!

"Varden! What is going on? Explain it to me!" Sims roared. Even with his slow reaction, he knew this was serious.

"I told you, I can’t explain it over the opticomputer. Just come quickly, Grandpa," Varden said, covering his ears.

"You better guarantee that my Arix is unharmed, or I’ll skin you alive!" Sims threatened before hanging up and rushing to Varden’s dormitory.

On the other end, Varden rubbed his ears, which were ringing from Sims’ shouting. He looked at Nyx and said sarcastically, "Arix and I have done so much for you."

Nyx didn’t understand what Varden meant, but his instincts told him to play it safe. So, Nyx gave Varden a sheepish smile.

Varden hated dealing with people like this big guy. Often, his schemes would fail because of people like him.

He sighed inwardly and looked back at Arix, wondering how her treatment was going.

If Arix actually saved Draven, the whole Alliance and Empire would go crazy.

For centuries, psychic world and psychic power had been incurable.

Now, someone was saying it could be treated. If it wasn’t Arix, Varden would think it was some clown making false claims. But seeing Draven slowly regain color, Varden had to accept that Arix might really be able to heal psychic world issues.



Sims arrived quickly. While Varden was still thinking, he felt a strong wind. Before he could react, someone smacked him hard on the head.

"Grandpa, be gentle! What if you make your smart grandson dumb?" Varden didn’t need to look to know it was his grandfather.

"If making you dumb stops you from scheming all the time, I’d be grateful," Sims retorted.

Varden was speechless.

Sims smirked at his speechless grandson and then turned to look at his granddaughter, who seemed to be treating someone. He was shocked to see that the patient was Draven!

Sims almost lost his breath. Once he recovered, he angrily said to Nyx, "You know this is incurable. Why are you messing around with these kids?"

"Master Sims, I have no other choice. Even if there’s a tiny hope, I want to try," Nyx said firmly.

"Ah... forget it. One’s poison is another’s honey. If you’re happy, do as you please," Sims sighed and stopped arguing.

"No, no, no, it’s not poison. Miss Kering said she could save Draven!" Nyx hurried to explain, feeling that Sims had misunderstood.

"Captain, I understand your feelings, but even a child wouldn’t believe such claims," Sims said, not believing a word. He suspected Nyx was so heartbroken that he was hallucinating.

"Uh... well..." Nyx was frustrated. He couldn’t convince Master Sims. No matter what he said, Sims thought he was acting out of grief.

Seeing Sims’ expression of polite disbelief, Nyx felt that his words were useless. In desperation, he looked to Varden for help.
