Chapter 244: Assassinating Arix
Chapter 244: Assassinating Arix
After she finished explaining, Drexel was quiet for a moment before speaking, his voice tinged with doubt. "So, you’re saying this all happened because you were making a potion?"
"Yeah, Grandfather’s illness is pretty severe, so making the potion was a bit tougher," Arix admitted, avoiding eye contact. She didn’t dare mention that she’d used her own heart’s blood in the process, which had actually caused her collapse.
If they found out, she knew she’d be in serious trouble.
Thankfully, Drexel let it go. He just sighed and gave her a gentle pat on the head. "Next time, give us a heads-up about what you’re doing. You really scared everyone this time."
Arix nodded, knowing he was right. Then, with a mix of concern and curiosity, she asked, "How’s Grandpa? Is he okay?"
"Grandpa’s still asleep, like you were, but there’s nothing wrong with his body," Drexel said.
Arix nodded again. She knew that while her heart’s blood could heal him, it would take at least a month for the effects to fully work. His extended sleep was something she had expected.
With her worries finally eased, Arix snuggled deeper into Drexel’s arms, feeling a sense of comfort she hadn’t felt in a while. Casually, she asked, "So, where are we headed next?"
"First stop is the Alliance to regroup," Drexel replied, his hand gently brushing through her hair. "After that, we’re off to the Empire of Eden for the first round of the mecha competition."
"Hmm? The Empire of Eden? Isn’t that the place with Alpha, Beta, and Omega genders?" Arix asked, her curiosity piqued.
"Yep, that’s the one," Drexel confirmed, his voice carrying a hint of excitement. "And get this—the captain of their national mecha team this time is an Omega. It’s pretty rare."
Arix raised an eyebrow, intrigued. It wasn’t that Omegas were looked down upon—it was just that they typically had lower physical strength compared to even Betas.
So, the idea of an Omega leading a mecha team in a high-stakes competition was both surprising and fascinating.
It was like picturing a gentle, unassuming rabbit at the head of a pack of fierce tigers and lions, ready to take on the world. The thought alone was enough to get anyone’s heart racing with anticipation.
Arix couldn’t shake her curiosity about this Omega, so she grabbed her opticomputer and dove into an online search.
Just as she expected, the details about his abilities were tightly sealed. But she did find plenty of other stuff, like his measurements, hobbies, and even a few photos showcasing his impressive physique, six packs and major guns.
Arix couldn’t help but blush when she glanced at the photos, coughing a little to cover her reaction. This Omega was definitely something else...
Time zipped by.
Before Arix knew it, midday had rolled around, bringing the spaceship to the capital planet of the Alliance.
After stepping out of the passenger hall, the siblings hopped into their Lev vehicle and headed straight for the gathering point of the Alliance’s mecha team.
Their destination? The military district of the capital.
By the time they arrived, most of the other competitors for the mecha competition were already there.
Admiral Sykes of the Second Legion was leading the charge for this competition, flanked by Tactical Instructor Spears and Assistant instructor Kellan.
The national mecha team members were heirs from five major families: Arix, her brother Drexel, Deanna, Lydia, and Marco. The reserve team included Quinnie and two students from Koros Military Academy.
After making the rounds and saying hello, Arix spotted her two close friends.
Thanks to her, the usually standoffish Cirilla and the sneakily clever Deanna got along reasonably well, even if they weren’t besties. When they saw Arix, they paused their chat and greeted her with warm smiles.
"Arix!"
"Arix!"
Now back in her human form, Arix approached them with a grin. "Why are you guys here so early?"
"We live on the capital planet, so we got here quickly. How was your trip to the Empire of Sacred Moonlight with your brother? Have any fun?" Deanna asked, clearly curious since she’d never been to the Empire of Sacred Moonlight.
Arix’s expression turned a bit sour. "Fun? Let’s just say I’m more worn out than anything."
"Oh? What happened? Spill the details," Cirilla said, trying to hide her amusement.
Arix sighed, knowing she couldn’t fully explain the whirlwind of events in the Empire. It was like trying to describe something bitter without the right words. "It’s complicated. Let’s just say I was paying off some debts."
Cirilla and Deanna exchanged a look, their eyebrows raised with knowing smiles. They didn’t usually enjoy others’ misfortune, but sometimes, exceptions were made.
Just then, Admiral Sykes clapped his hands and called out energetically, "Time to go! Let’s move out!"
With that, Arix and her friends cut their conversation short and boarded the warship that would take them to Loran in the Empire. Since it was a long journey, each member of the mecha team got their own cabin to rest in.
Feeling drained, Arix decided to skip dinner with her friends and headed straight to her cabin for some much-needed rest. But as soon as she opened the door, a familiar voice made her head throb.
"Arix, good afternoon." Quinnie had clearly been lurking, waiting for the perfect moment to greet her.
Arix turned to look at him, a bit of exasperation in her eyes, but she managed a polite nod before retreating into her cabin.
Arix’s clear avoidance would have made most people back off, but not Quispe. Instead, it brought a satisfied smile to his face.
Feeling pleased, he opened the door to the cabin next to hers. However, his good mood quickly evaporated when he noticed a video request notification flashing on his opticomputer.
Quispe briefly considered ignoring it but reluctantly accepted the call. The screen flickered to life, revealing Hardy’s face, twisted in frustration.
"Prince Quispe, care to explain what happened?" Hardy sneered. "You were supposed to assassinate Arix, but if I’m not mistaken, she just took a trip to the Empire and returned unscathed."
The frustration in his voice was palpable—he was inches away from strangling Quispe himself for missing such a prime opportunity.
Quispe’s eyes shifted guiltily, though he tried to maintain an air of mystery and wisdom. "You don’t get it. I didn’t want to raise any suspicions."
Hardy’s silence was damning, his expression clearly conveying disbelief. Still, he grudgingly allowed Quispe to continue, considering his royal status. "Oh? Enlighten me."
Quispe didn’t actually have a solid plan but quickly concocted one on the fly. "With the mecha competition coming up, I’ll eliminate all those so-called geniuses during the event. Isn’t that better than just killing Arix?"
Hardy stroked his chin, mulling over the unexpected logic in Quispe’s idea. Finally, he nodded. "Not bad."
"See? Only someone as brilliant as me could think of that," Quispe boasted, a smug grin spreading across his face.
"But you’re just a reserve member. How do you plan to take them all out?" Hardy pressed.
"Don’t worry, I’ve got a way to get into the competition. To be safe, let’s not chat too much and risk blowing my cover. Goodbye." Quispe quickly ended the call before Hardy could probe further.
Hardy didn’t mind the abrupt end to the conversation. Instead, he leaned back, a knowing smile playing on his lips, and ordered his subordinates, "Prepare our forces to support Prince Quispe at any moment."
"Yes, Third Prince," his subordinate replied, hurrying off to carry out the command.
Meanwhile, Hardy remained seated, his smile widening as he considered the possibilities.
