Chapter 196: The Blueprint
Chapter 196: The Blueprint
Just as Quillan anticipated, the admirals of the great armies were immediately alarmed upon receiving the information.
There was a closely held secret that most ordinary people were unaware of, but those in high positions knew very well: only those with Psychic Incarnation could control level-eight mechas.
The five major families had been using their Psychic Incarnations as keys to operate their respective level-eight mechas since ancient times.
While ordinary individuals with Psychic Incarnation couldn’t command the level-eight mechas, members of those families could. After all, many families had siblings who could inherit this ability.
Moreover, even if someone wasn’t from one of the five great families, possessing a Psychic Incarnation still allowed their mecha to reach a higher level of power.
If Awakened Ware could be mass-produced, it could potentially enable future mechas to be upgraded and modified based on these Psychic Incarnations.
And most crucially, once Awakened Wares were released, the Alliance’s overall strength would undoubtedly soar.
In stark contrast to the excitement among the Alliance’s upper ranks, the air in the old Psychic Ware Association’s conference room was tense and heavy. The Psychic Ware Grandmasters and the association’s president were all glaring at Bryndel.
Bryndel, feeling the weight of their stares, cautiously glanced around before quickly lowering his head in fear. He sat silently, not daring to speak.
The silence stretched on until Seldner, known for his hot temper, finally broke it. "Bryndel, how did you manage to let our Psychic Ware Association’s genius get scooped up by that upstart association?" he demanded angrily. "Now the entire Alliance knows that the Awakened Ware was developed by them. What does that do to our legitimate Psychic Ware Association’s reputation?"
Bryndel kept his mouth shut, feeling the heat of the blame. He thought to himself that it wasn’t entirely his fault his apprentices were so promising.
Thrynn, another senior figure, added with biting sarcasm, "We gave you the chance to mentor apprentices, and look what happened. You’ve basically handed our talent over to the upstarts. I’m starting to wonder if you’re working for them."
Bryndel internally sighed. He knew Thrynn had been unhappy about him taking on Arix as an apprentice from the beginning, and now she was also indirectly blaming the president for putting him in this position.
Other Grandmasters in the Psychic Ware association started to question what was happening, and the murmurs in the conference room got louder.
Clearly, they weren’t happy.
They felt the spotlight should’ve been on their official association, not on some unknown group that somehow snagged the Awakened Ware results.
The grandmasters in the Psychic Ware association were seething with anger, barely able to breathe from the frustration. And poor Bryndel, who was now the focus of all those stares, felt incredibly wronged.
’The Awakened Ware is Arix’s invention, so why are these old-timers acting like it’s stolen from them?’ He didn’t dare voice his thoughts, though, because it might cost him dearly in that tense room.
Just as the Grandmasters seemed ready to scold Bryndel, the association’s president, Zorix, finally spoke up. "Everyone, please calm down," he said, clasping his hands in front of him with a serene expression, like nothing could faze him.
The room quieted down, though the Grandmasters still eyed Bryndel warily.
Zorix, choosing to keep things simple, continued, "This isn’t Bryndel’s fault, nor the fault of the small association you mentioned. Arix did a fantastic job developing the Awakened Ware, but let’s not forget, Talrin had been researching this for decades. Not too long ago, if I remember correctly, many of you laughed at him for being overly ambitious."
As Zorix finished, the room fell silent. No one had believed that a Psychic Ware capable of awakening a Psychic Incarnation was possible, and they had even mocked Talrin behind his back for dreaming too big.
Now, with the tables turned, those past laughs only deepened their embarrassment.
The Grandmasters exchanged glances, no longer angry but clearly uncomfortable. The idea of this groundbreaking invention being in the hands of a smaller, often dismissed association didn’t sit well with them. They wondered if they really had to swallow their pride and ask for cooperation.
Seldner, in particular, looked furious. He was too proud to ask that small group for anything. But as much as Seldner resisted, some of the other Grandmasters couldn’t hold back their questions any longer.
"President Zorix, who are we going to send to the New Psychic Ware association to ask for the Awakened Ware’s blueprint?" one eager Grandmaster asked.
Zorix didn’t respond directly but instead posed a question of his own. "Any volunteers?" His words were met with silence once again.
All the Psychic Ware Grandmasters felt a twinge of guilt.
Some stared up at the ceiling, others looked down at the floor, and a few just zoned out entirely.
The rivalry between the two Psychic Ware associations had been going on for ages, and almost everyone there was a veteran of the Psychic Ware association. Disputes and harsh words were the norm, but having to ask for cooperation now felt like a real blow to their pride.
Noticing the awkward silence, Bryndel, who had been standing quietly in the corner, timidly raised his hand and said, "Maybe I should go?"
The moment he spoke, all eyes turned to him. But this time, the looks weren’t angry; they were more like expressions of realization or even relief.
’Of course! How can we have forgotten about him?’
"President Zorix, I suggest Bryndel go. After all, he’s their master, so he’s got a better shot at getting the blueprint," Seldner said, his eyes lighting up with sudden enthusiasm. He even looked at Bryndel with a newfound friendliness.
Bryndel thought to himself, "Seriously? Just say it without that creepy look."
"I agree, Bryndel is the best choice," Thrynn nodded, thinking the plan made sense. The other Psychic Ware Grandmasters quickly voiced their agreement as well.
With everyone on the same page, Zorix nodded in approval and announced, "Alright, it’s decided. Bryndel will go."
The decision was made without any objections. As the Psychic Ware Grandmasters settled on this plan, Zorix turned his cold gaze to Bryndel, smiling in a way that was both kind and slightly threatening, "Bryndel, you won’t let us down, will you?"
Bryndel could only roll his eyes. With a deep breath, he patted his chest and promised, "Don’t worry, I’ll get it done."
"Good, then this meeting is adjourned. Everyone can go," Zorix said, finally showing a smile.
As soon as the meeting ended, the Grandmasters practically rushed Bryndel out of the building, not giving him a moment to collect himself.
Standing alone at the entrance of the Psychic Ware association, Bryndel watched the Grandmasters enthusiastically see him off.
With a sigh, he turned and set off alone towards the New Psychic Ware association.
