Chapter 41: Shocks Everyone
Chapter 41: Shocks Everyone
There was no line before the Gravity Training Center. Just as Arix was about to walk straight in, Virtanen stopped her with his hand.
Arix looked at Virtanen, puzzled, as she hadn’t seen him stop any other students just before her.
Virtanen felt a bit awkward under Arix’s gaze. He coughed and said casually, "Arix. Remember, safety first, and don’t push yourself too hard."
"Okay," Arix replied obediently. She was a bit confused but sensed no malice from the instructor.
"Go ahead," Virtanen said.
He watched Arix enter the Gravity Training Center, silently cheering her on and whispering to himself, "After all, whether I sleep in the bed or the hallway tonight depends on you."
As soon as Arix entered the training area, it felt like stepping into a huge indoor training ground. The center featured a circular track about 3000 meters long. What was special, though, were the walls on both sides of the track made of a unique material that created light barriers, seemingly isolating the special environment of the track.
The light barriers made the scene on the track a bit blurry, but from the outside, people could still vaguely see.
At that moment, many students were moving forward on the track, their movements slow and difficult, like toddlers.
Every so often, a student would fall flat. They seemed to be struck down by an invisible meteor, crashing face down instantly.
Arix suddenly felt a phantom pain on her face. She swallowed before walking to the starting point of the track and politely greeted Ortiz and Bauer, "Sir, good afternoon."
Ortiz and Bauer, both gentle in demeanor, nodded back to Arix.
Then Ortiz and Bauer looked at each other for a moment. After a silent exchange of glances, Ortiz finally conceded defeat.
The defeated Ortiz covertly rolled his eyes at Bauer and looked at Arix, pretending to be stern. He said, "The main purpose of the Gravity Training Center is to enhance the resistance of your psychic barriers. The gravity will get stronger as you go further. If you feel it’s too much, don’t push yourself. Just remove your bracelet, and the gravity will drop down. Got it?"
"Uh-huh, okay," Arix replied obediently.
She felt that today, the instructors were a bit overly fussy, but she only dared to grumble about it internally, never aloud.
After putting on the weight ring provided by the instructors, Arix stepped onto the track of the training ground.
As soon as she stood on the track, Arix instantly felt a heavy pressure pushing down from above. It was as if the normal gravity had suddenly increased tenfold.
In simple terms, it was like a normal person wearing a 500 kg weight ring, making it extremely difficult to move.
Arix tried to walk. She found it difficult, but not yet to the point where she needed to deploy her psychic shield.
And since the instructors had said the gravity would keep increasing, Arix also wanted to see where her limit was.
As Arix walked into the training area, she initially resisted using her psychic shield, which quickly marked her as overly confident by her peers on the gravity track.
Most of the students secretly mocked her, recalling a previous student who had tried the same approach and had quickly depleted his energy, ultimately receiving a low score from the instructors.
Arix was unaware of the mocking glances from her classmates as she struggled to move her feet alone.
Unknowingly, she moved from the tenfold gravity area to the twentyfold gravity track.
As soon as she stepped in, the increased gravity crushed her unprepared, causing her to fall embarrassingly. She finally understood the hard falls her classmates had experienced.
As the students saw Arix’s fall, they immediately rejoiced in her misfortune.
"I told you she’d fall as soon as she hit the twentyfold gravity track, haha!"
"What a fool, totally overestimating herself!"
"And she’s supposed to be top ten among the freshmen. Turns out, without Drexel, she’d be nothing."
Amidst the laughter, Arix struggled to her feet. She glanced around at those who mocked her, silently adding them to her list for future payback. She would surely shock them with her power when the opportunity arose.
Arix refocused and drew on the psychic power from her inner psychic world.
The energy formed an egg-shaped shield around her, blocking the intense gravity from above.
As soon as the psychic shield was activated, Arix no longer felt the overwhelming pressure.
She looked around at her classmates with a smirk of triumph and then confidently walked away under their watchful eyes.
Though her physical power might have been lacking, her psychic power was unmatched in her class.
The students were stunned. They slowly realized that although Arix might physically seem weak, her psychic abilities were possibly the strongest in the class.
Those who had just mocked her fell silent, the somewhat capable ones quietly slipping away, while the truly weak could only stay put under the gravity, their faces red with embarrassment.
Meanwhile, in the instructor’s office, the trio were becoming impatient.
"Arix has been in there for about ten minutes now, I wonder how she’s doing," Ortiz expressed his concern.
"This kid is pretty stubborn, maybe you should go check on her. Don’t let her end up in the doctor’s again," Bauer, who had seen Arix’s stubborn streak, suggested with a hint of worry.
"Alright, I’ll go check on her. Wait for me here," Ortiz said. He got ready to enter, yet just then, Arix showed up on her own.
Watching Arix, who appeared not at all disheveled, Ortiz thought she hadn’t gone far at all. He frowned slightly in displeasure and asked, "How come you got out so quickly?"
"I finished, so I came out," Arix replied. She looked puzzled at Ortiz, who seemed unhappy.
"Hey, you little liar!" Ortiz simply didn’t believe Arix. No one knew the gravity track better than he did. Even someone with Supergiant-Class psychic power would need an hour to complete the course.
But Arix had only been gone for, at most, about ten minutes.
Since Arix was a girl, Ortiz didn’t think it was appropriate to scold her too fiercely. So he said more gently, "Your brother, Drexel, hasn’t come out yet."
"Oh, I saw him. He even told me to wait for him so we could go to the cafeteria for dinner together," Arix said, blinking.
Ortiz was momentarily at a loss for words. This kid really was stubborn. It seemed he needed to show some proof.
With that thought, Ortiz used his opticomputer to send a message to a colleague in the surveillance room, asking them to send him Arix’s scores from the Gravity Training Center.
The colleague was efficient. Almost three seconds after the message was sent, they sent over Arix’s scores.
