10: Chapter 10 This...is a misunderstanding.
It was nine o'clock in the evening when Chen Xin arrived at the Hospital.
After Wang Shuo woke up, although Chen Cheng was extremely reluctant, his body was honest enough to send a message to Chen Xin.
Chen Xin did not rush over immediately either; instead, she intentionally arrived half an hour late. This half-hour was a transition period she left for the four brothers to reunite after their life-and-death separation.
She didn't need to use her brain to know how the four brothers must have wept bitterly and had a touching reunion during this time. She had always kept her distance from such things.
So, as soon as the minute hand passed nine o'clock, she stepped into Wang Shuo's Hospital room on time.
There was no one else in the room. It seemed they knew she was coming and had deliberately avoided her, but Chen Xin didn't care.
She and Chen Cheng had never gotten along; whenever they met, it was like water meeting oil, and then someone lighting a fire—even substances that shouldn't burn would burst into raging flames.
Hmm, Chen Cheng was just that kind of person who carried his own fuel and fire.
At this moment, Wang Shuo was leaning against the headboard, holding a magazine he had dug up from somewhere, seemingly reading it with great interest. Chen Xin paid special attention to the cover, which was printed with '2017, Issue 12'.
He must have heard the footsteps, as Wang Shuo put down the magazine in his hand, revealing a pair of clear eyes, and smiled, "You're here."
Chen Xin nodded and wanted to place the fruit she was holding on the table next to the bed, but the fruit gift box she had sent just a few hours ago seemed to be mocking her stupidity.
She furrowed her delicate brows, then placed the bag of fruit on the floor next to the table.
She didn't say a word throughout the whole process. Anyone who saw it would think their relationship was definitely unusual, and they would never guess that this was actually their first formal meeting.
Wang Shuo was also carefully observing the girl who had just walked through the door. She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen in real life... or at least one of them. If someone said she was Chen Cheng's cousin... Wang Shuo would believe it.
Sure enough, when you have enough money, even your appearance gets an upgrade.
As for the so-called beauties on TV and the internet... Wang Shuo secretly curled his lip. If you put Chen Cheng up there, his looks would probably be more authentic than theirs.
"Since it's our first time meeting, let me introduce myself. My name is Wang Shuo, hello." Wang Shuo smiled slightly and tried hard to extend his small hand, wanting to show his gentlemanly side.
"This should be our second meeting," Chen Xin said with a calm face, seemingly not seeing Wang Shuo's outstretched arm.
"Is that so?" Wang Shuo awkwardly lowered his hand, subconsciously touched his head, and smiled, "That might be my fault. I don't have any recollection of it."
"Guanggu Pedestrian Street."
Guanggu Pedestrian Street? Why does that sound so familiar? Wang Shuo touched his head.
"Boyfriend."
Boyfriend... Wang Shuo suddenly remembered. He pointed at Chen Xin, eyes wide: "You are... You are!"
"Hello, my name is Chen Xin. Chen as in the Chen family, Xin as in flourishing prosperity." Chen Xin ignored the surprised Wang Shuo, reached out, gently took the finger Wang Shuo was pointing at her with, shook it twice, and then pulled it back.
The cold and arrogant Miss Chen was still as cold and arrogant as ever.
Wang Shuo didn't have the time to feel whether Chen Xin's hand was soft; his mind was completely filled with what Chen Xin had just said.
"You are... the one I met at Guanggu Pedestrian Street..." Wang Shuo swallowed the rest of his words, but the surprise on his face betrayed his thoughts.
Chen Xin nodded.
"So it was you..." Wang Shuo's jaw dropped in surprise, but then a look of sudden realization appeared. Now everything made sense.
This also explained why the police officer called her Miss Chen on the phone; why Chen Cheng's cousin had come to see him repeatedly while he was in a coma and had even paid for all his medical expenses; and why Chen Xin had just said this was their second meeting.
Everything, absolutely everything, was because the person he had inadvertently helped a month ago was the Chen Xin right in front of him!
At the time, he had been blind to everything else, focusing on how to get away quickly, so he hadn't paid attention to what the girl looked like, to the point that he hadn't even recognized her just now.
Wang Shuo was filled with regret. It seemed he really did have the life of a shut-in.
But then again.
"How... did you find me?" Wang Shuo was very curious.
"You made a statement at the police station."
Wang Shuo understood. The statement he made at the police station had recorded his name and identity in detail, so finding him was really simple.
"The police said you might have been injured while fighting with the criminals, so we checked the admission records of all the Hospitals and finally found your admission record."
Chen Xin looked at Wang Shuo lying on the Hospital bed, her beautiful brows furrowing again.
"However, I didn't expect you to have been lying here for a month. If you feel uncomfortable anywhere else, I can arrange follow-up treatment. Even if it means inviting world-renowned brain specialists, it's not impossible."
"I will do my best to ensure you return to your previous state."
Chen Xin's expression was calm, her voice cold and clear, but the meaning behind her words was unquestionable.
"This... I think I've recovered quite well. Thank you for your kindness, but it's really not necessary." Wang Shuo hurriedly and embarrassedly declined. Fighting with criminals... that didn't seem to be about him, right? Had Chen Xin in front of him made a mistake?
Chen Xin looked at Wang Shuo suspiciously.
"Really... it's really not necessary. Look, my body is in great shape now. I can get out of bed and walk around right away..." As he spoke, Wang Shuo tried to climb out of bed to demonstrate his robust health to Chen Xin. But he seemed to have overestimated his physical condition after not moving for a month and relying only on nutrient IVs. Just as he climbed up and tried to get off the bed, he fell face-first, landing in a face-plant position.
Chen Xin's delicate brows began to furrow again. It seemed she held it in for a long time, then gently exhaled, walked over to Wang Shuo, and helped him back onto the bed.
"Heh... hehe, that was an accident... an accident... actually, I really have recovered..."
Wang Shuo wanted to explain further, but Chen Xin interrupted him indifferently: "Alright, I know. Just focus on recovering now. I will explain the situation to the doctor. Don't worry about the expenses; I will cover all costs."
"It's already very late, so I won't disturb you further." Chen Xin paused and said, "I will come to see you again tomorrow."
After finishing, Chen Xin didn't give Wang Shuo a chance to speak and walked straight out of the Hospital room.
"Miss Chen..."
Wang Shuo couldn't get the rest of his sentence out. He looked helplessly at the closed door of the room, only then finishing the second half: "That's not... how it happened!"
Wang Shuo felt like crying but had no tears.
This... is a misunderstanding... it really is a misunderstanding!
