375: Chapter 374 New Life
Only this time, things seemed a bit different from before.
The originally bustling hall was gone, the tables and chairs had been rearranged, and everyone was organized in an orderly fashion, entering the inner area layer by layer as if going through security.
Luo Changan observed for an hour before finally discovering the pattern.
Almost everyone who could enter the inner area to line up was a young person.
It wasn't that there were no people of his age, but they were all blocked in the area outside the seven tables.
And in this area, they couldn't even join the queue; they couldn't even see the interviewer's face.
Sighing softly, Luo Changan felt even more distressed.
This company's massive recruitment drive was originally a great opportunity, but unfortunately, his age was his greatest disadvantage, making it impossible for him to compete with these young lads.
Looking at the situation before him, it seemed he wouldn't even pass the first round of screening.
Trying to force himself to accept the reality that he had exceeded the age limit, Luo Changan prepared to leave the recruitment center and continue to try his luck at the advertisement wall outside.
He had already made up his mind. If all else failed, he would apply at some domestic service companies. As long as he could earn an income, he was now completely willing to shed his current attire and do the manual labor he used to look down upon the most.
Before he could even take a step, he saw a Middle-aged man dressed in a suit and shirt hurriedly walking through the main entrance, approaching the screening table closest to him.
Luo Changan subconsciously took a few steps closer.
"How many people have been recruited?"
The Middle-aged man asked.
"Director, we opened all six spots this afternoon for simple screening. Basically, all eligible fresh graduates have been given contracts. The current number is..."
young man behind the screening table glanced at the booklet and said, "A total of 302 people."
"Not bad."
The Middle-aged man nodded slightly. "This matter is being personally overseen by Mayor Fang. It must be done well, and done beautifully. Once we recruit 350 university students, we will start recruiting those with work experience. Remember, the screening must be strict to prevent unqualified people from slipping in."
After a moment of thought, the Middle-aged man added, "Also, keep a tight grip on the political background check. Exclude anyone involved in fights, anyone with a criminal record, or anyone with tattoos—especially among the fresh graduates."
"Director,"
young man said with some difficulty, "The task assigned by Mayor Fang was to recruit as many people as possible, without excessive screening."
"Foolish!"
The Middle-aged man lowered his voice. "If the mayor tells you not to screen, you really won't screen? What if something goes wrong? Will you take responsibility, or will I? That's not how you do the job. What needs to be screened must be screened, and only what doesn't need to be screened can be let through easily. Do you understand?"
young man's eyes looked a bit bewildered.
The Middle-aged man glanced around and said, "The background check must be strict to ensure there are no issues with this group's basic background. There's no negotiating on this. As for other things, as long as there are no major issues, just let them pass."
"I understand."
young man nodded.
The Middle-aged man nodded with satisfaction and asked, "How is the situation inside? Who is in charge of the specific screening?"
"They are employees from the company, three in total."
young man replied.
"Three?"
The Middle-aged man looked up at the situation in the inner area and frowned. "Why are there six lines queuing here?"
"It's like this."
young man hurriedly explained, "Because the pace was too slow, after interviewing the first batch of people, the three of them selected three people from among them to act as interviewers and handle the screening."
Selecting and promoting people on the spot?
The Middle-aged man was shocked by this bizarre operation and asked, "Does their company not have anyone else? They want to recruit so many people at once, how could only three people be enough?"
"Well..."
young man scratched his head and said hesitantly, "I asked about that. They said new employees would report for duty tomorrow, and there would be enough people to handle the interviews then."
The Middle-aged man was stunned.
Isn't that still selecting people from the new employees?
After all, it was a large company that spent tens of billions to build a factory. How could it seem like the entire company only had three people who could actually do any work?
However, this didn't seem to have much to do with him. No matter how their company arranged things, he only needed to increase publicity to ensure a sufficient number of qualified applicants.
Nodding slightly, the Middle-aged man said, "Continue to step up publicity efforts, and strive to let all unemployed job seekers know about the recruitment."
As he spoke, the Middle-aged man scanned the surroundings and saw Luo Changan and the others who were still standing in place.
"What's going on with those people?"
young man took a glance and replied, "They are all here to apply, but they are already over thirty-five years old, so they don't quite meet the screening criteria."
The Middle-aged man looked at them and frowned slightly. "Does the company have an age requirement for personnel with work experience?"
"Not really."
young man replied, "The company specified basic conditions for fresh graduates, but for those with work experience, they only required specific majors and work history, with no real requirements regarding age."
"Then let them in."
The Middle-aged man said indifferently, "Whether they are actually hired is up to them to decide. On your end, you only need to verify if their identities and backgrounds are clear."
young man was slightly taken aback, then nodded. "Understood, Director."
The Middle-aged man nodded gently, gave a few more instructions, and turned to leave.
Watching the Middle-aged man who looked like a leader leave in a hurry, the last glimmer of hope in Luo Changan's heart shattered. He picked up his briefcase, stood up, and prepared to leave the talent center.
"Sir, please wait a moment."
A voice called out. Luo Changan turned to look and saw that it was indeed young man who had just been speaking with the Middle-aged man.
young man looked at him and asked, "Are you here to apply?"
Luo Changan hesitated for a moment and nodded.
"Do you have a resume?"
Luo Changan pulled out the resume, which had been photocopied countless times, from his briefcase and handed it to young man.
The moment young man took it, Luo Changan keenly noticed that several other older applicants not far away also turned their eyes in this direction.
The air seemed to freeze. Although the surroundings were as noisy as ever, in Luo Changan's eyes, there was only the image of young man gently flipping through his resume.
After an unknown amount of time, young man closed the resume, raised his eyes, and looked at Luo Changan.
Luo Changan unexpectedly felt a bit nervous.
"Hmm... no criminal record, a very clear work history, and the reason for leaving was a normal layoff."
Luo Changan listened quietly, his heart starting to beat violently, like a death row prisoner waiting for sentencing.
"Sir."
young man's voice sounded like music to his ears.
"You meet the pre-selection criteria. You can go in for an interview."
Luo Changan felt as if he had been struck by lightning. He stood frozen on the spot, unable to recover for a long time.
"Sir?"
young man looked at the man in front of him with some confusion. "Is something wrong?"
"It's nothing."
Luo Changan snapped out of it, his voice actually sounding a bit hoarse as he said, "Thank you."
He swore that the words 'meet the criteria' were absolutely the most beautiful sounds he had heard in recent times, without exception.
"That's good."
young man handed the resume back to him and pointed inside. "Go in and prepare for the interview. Wait outside Meeting Room One. You can go in when your name is called."
Luo Changan silently took his resume and walked step by step into the cordoned-off area.
His figure was silent and steady, as if stepping out of hell and into a new life!
