107: Chapter 107 The Zheng Family

Reconstructing W City's Eagle Eye System.

This was something Wang Shuo had been thinking about ever since he left the police station and arrived at the Hospital.

The existing Eagle Eye System was built on an advanced image recognition system using electronic computers. It calculated the facial features of individuals to assist operators in filtering target data from a vast amount of video footage.

The problem was that the practical application of this system was severely limited by the personnel constraints of the operating system, completely lacking any proactivity.

It could not identify specific behavioral characteristics in real-time and sound an alarm. Just like this time, even though he had been struck several times in the alley, the Eagle Eye System had shown no reaction whatsoever.

This disappointed him greatly, and improving the Eagle Eye System became one of the ideas he constantly kept in mind.

If he couldn't even ensure his own safety in W City, how could he have the face to continue drawing on the technology of the Humanoid Race? How could he have the face to call himself the sole heir of an alien civilization? How could he have the face to face Zhou Jun and the others who had been injured because of him?

But reconstructing W City's Eagle Eye System was not something that could be done just by having the idea and talking about it.

This involved a massive, complex network of relationships and established interest groups. Therefore, Wang Shuo only mentioned it tentatively for now, letting Liu Yemei act as she saw fit. His primary goal was still to find the four kidnappers through the police as quickly as possible—especially The Black-robed Man, whom he wished he could hack into a thousand pieces.

In all his years of growing up, this was the first time someone had brandished a knife with the genuine intent to kill him. He had never felt that death could be so close. To be honest, at the moment he felt his death was certain, the only thing Wang Shuo could think of was how to survive.

The technologies given to him by the Humanoid Race flashed through his mind one by one, but not a single one was of any use. At that moment, he trembled with fear.

There was also the information that The Black-robed Man had inadvertently revealed.

"A pursuit order."

Wang Shuo muttered to himself, unable to help but laugh self-deprecatingly.

What era was this? To think he would encounter something straight out of a novel, as if someone were playing a deliberate prank on him. Only, the price of this prank might be his life.

This time they had hired unprofessional people and failed, but Wang Shuo was not sure what this group's true purpose was. Was it really just for a CNC operating system?

Would they target his parents and friends?

He didn't dare to gamble.

Therefore, rooting out the pests behind this incident was imperative; at the very least, they had to be dragged into the light. To achieve this, he had to find a way to lure them out.

And what he needed to do now was to grow strong as quickly as possible. If they dared to come again, he would make sure they died without a grave!

Outside the ICU operating room.

Turning the corner of the corridor, Wang Shuo immediately saw Chen Xin sitting on a bench. She was holding the lingdan no. 1 he had just handed to her, staring at it quietly, lost in thought.

Wang Shuo sat down gently beside Chen Xin.

"You're here." Chen Xin looked up, sizing up the bandages on Wang Shuo, and nodded gently. "You look alright."

"Thanks for your hard work."

He knew that Chen Xin was keeping watch outside the operating room on his behalf.

"It's nothing," Chen Xin shook her head.

Then, silence fell. Chen Xin also knew that Wang Shuo had no desire to talk, so after her brief reply, she just sat quietly, staring at the battered lingdan no. 1 in her hands.

"Mia."

Chen Xin called out silently in her heart, gently rubbing the cold exterior of the lingdan no. 1 with her hand.

More than two hours quickly passed.

A flurry of hurried footsteps echoed down the corridor, sounding as if a large group of people was approaching in a rush.

Wang Shuo looked up and soon spotted a group of four people in military uniforms. Leading them was a cold-faced young female officer.

The reason he knew she was an officer was that Wang Shuo keenly noticed the epaulets on her shoulders—two bars with three five-pointed stars in the middle. Although he didn't know the exact rank, she was undoubtedly an officer.

"Excuse me, is this the ICU operating room?"

The female officer stopped in front of the bench, right next to the main entrance of the ICU operating room.

"Yes, this is it." Wang Shuo stood up. "You are..."

"Is Zheng Jun inside?"

The female officer's voice was flat.

Wang Shuo's voice choked. He nodded silently. Whenever he thought of his boss still lying on the operating table, his mood plummeted.

"How is his condition now?"

"He's still being resuscitated, but his life shouldn't be in danger."

It was Chen Xin who spoke. She had also stood up and was now standing beside Wang Shuo.

The female officer sized Chen Xin up, then turned her gaze back to Wang Shuo. Looking at the bandages on him, she frowned. "So you are Wang Shuo? Zheng Jun got injured because of you?"

"Who are you?"

Before Wang Shuo could speak, Chen Xin asked, her voice neither cold nor warm.

The female officer glanced at Chen Xin, said nothing, and turned her gaze back to Wang Shuo, waiting for his answer.

Wang Shuo took a deep breath and looked at the female officer before him calmly. "I am Wang Shuo. The boss got injured because he was saving me."

The female officer nodded and finally spoke, "I am Zheng Jun's older sister. I heard he was injured, so I came to take a look."

Zheng Jun's sister? Wang Shuo understood.

"How did he get injured? If it's convenient, tell me about it."

There was nothing to hide. Wang Shuo explained briefly, though bringing it up again gave him an urge to immediately go and drag The Black-robed Man out.

"That's what happened." Wang Shuo paused, then continued, "But please rest assured, I will definitely make sure the boss gets well. No matter what it takes, we will also cover the expenses..."

Before he could finish, the female officer waved her hand to interrupt him.

"Zheng Jun did the right thing. He is different from you; he is a soldier and will have to go to the battlefield sooner or later. If he hadn't done what he did, and you were the one lying in the ICU right now, I would have broken his legs myself. If he can't even protect a citizen of Huaxia, how could he have the face to come home in the future?"

The female officer's voice was calm, but her words left Wang Shuo stunned.

"So you don't need to apologize."

After saying this, the female officer adjusted her cap and uniform, looking at Chen Xin beside him.

"You are quite good. You have a bit of your sister's likeness."

"You know my sister?" Chen Xin frowned slightly.

The female officer didn't answer. She just swept her eyes over Wang Shuo and Chen Xin, suddenly stood at attention, and saluted them.

This made Wang Shuo stand up straight subconsciously.

"I still have things to do and must leave now. I'll leave Zheng Jun in your care. Please look after him for me."

Before Wang Shuo could return the salute, the female officer nodded to them, turned around, and left.

As a soldier, she demanded that Zheng Jun save lives; as a relative, she could only entrust others to care for her brother. This was not because she was cold-blooded, but because she had a duty to fulfill and had no choice.

Watching the female officer's retreating back, Wang Shuo suddenly understood what it meant to be a soldier.

This meeting lasted only a few minutes from start to finish, but it gave Wang Shuo a deep appreciation of the demeanor of Huaxia soldiers. Zheng Jun was one. Although he didn't know what Zheng Jun's sister meant or why a college student was a soldier, the scene of Zheng Jun throwing himself forward without hesitation forced him to admit that there was indeed a soldier's style in him. Zheng Jun's sister was another. Not only was she heroic and valiant, but her bone-deep military temperament radiated from the inside out, and her swift, decisive style of action unconsciously influenced Wang Shuo as well.

As for Chen Xin, she stared deeply at the female officer's retreating back, her eyes filled with contemplation.

Half an hour later, the door to the operating room opened.
