91: Chapter 91 I'm dizzy, I'm completely dizzy.
In the massive classroom, the crowd of freshmen was dead silent.
A freshman just like them had in the blink of an eye become their instructor. From the look of things, he even seemed to have genuine talent. Yet, this wasn't even the hardest part to accept.
What was hardest to accept was that this mysterious instructor turned out to be Wang Shuo—someone everyone had previously agreed was the absolute dregs among academic failures, a figure they had treated as a laughingstock from the start of the semester until now. How could they possibly accept this?
Cao Wen stared blankly at Wang Shuo, who stood beside Teacher Ding Runan with a bashful smile. His mind felt utterly dazed, and the surrounding sounds faded bit by bit until he couldn't even hear Teacher Ding's voice. His eyes suddenly rolled back, and he collapsed straight to the ground.
"Cao Wen!"
"Cao Wen, what's wrong with you?"
"Teacher, Cao Wen fainted!"
Teacher Ding Runan, who was mid-speech, frowned. She walked over to Cao Wen, checked his breathing with her hand, and then instructed the two students supporting him, "He's fine. Take him to the infirmary, and tell him to come see me when he wakes up."
The two students acknowledged her instructions and slowly carried Cao Wen out of the classroom.
From beginning to end, Wang Shuo didn't spare Cao Wen a single glance.
"As for the rest of you..." Teacher Ding Runan swept her gaze over the room again, her tone solemn. "What I just said is no joke! If anyone violates the rules, they will be severely disciplined according to school regulations!"
"If you're not convinced, that's fine too. Don't say I didn't give you a chance."
Teacher Ding Runan pointed to the booklet in her hand. "In this booklet, the first forty pages are the lecture notes Lecturer Wang Shuo specifically wrote for you. They have been simplified as much as possible. If any of you can understand them and have follow-up ideas, you can raise your hand right now, and I will personally recommend you to become a lecturer! Otherwise, sit tight and listen to the lecture!"
As her gaze swept across, everyone who met Teacher Ding Runan's sharp look quietly lowered their heads.
Zhou Peng curled his lips.
What a joke. Just looking at this stuff in front of him was difficult enough, let alone understanding it? Was that even something a human could do? Did she think they were all freaks? If he could understand this stuff, he would have gone solo long ago—why even attend university!
But then again, why did a guy like Wang Shuo even come to university?
Zhou Peng stared at the booklet and fell into deep thought. This seemed to be a profound question.
"No one?"
Teacher Ding Runan withdrew her gaze.
"It's your own lack of ability then; don't say I didn't give you a chance. To prevent you from making mistakes, I have printed the lab regulations on the very first page of the materials so that you can remain alert at all times."
Wang Shuo curiously flipped open the materials, and several lines of large, bold text caught his eye.
"Lab Regulations: 1. Strictly abide by confidentiality rules. Anyone who leaks the research project's content or progress without authorization will be stripped of their official team member status and reported to the School Board; internship members will be expelled from the university upon the School Board's decision."
"2. It is strictly forbidden to take laboratory-related materials outside. No laboratory materials may be taken out of the lab without the permission of the presiding instructor. Otherwise, a warning will be issued, and those causing serious consequences will be reported to the School Board for expulsion."
"3. It is forbidden to bring non-lab personnel into or out of the laboratory."
...
All in all, more than half of the rules were confidentiality requirements.
Wang Shuo shook his head helplessly. To be honest, he still hadn't figured out how to continue with this project, let alone worry about things like confidentiality.
"By the way, Teacher Ding." Wang Shuo seemed to suddenly remember something and asked, "As an instructor, do I have the right to select people?"
"Of course." Teacher Ding Runan nodded. Other instructors naturally didn't have the right to pick and choose, but since Wang Shuo was now the lead instructor and everything in this team revolved around him, it wouldn't make sense to deny him this right.
"I understand then." Wang Shuo smiled and stopped speaking.
He hoped certain classmates wouldn't do anything foolish.
What troubled him now was... if Professor Zeng and Teacher Ding really discovered that he had already created a finished product, given the level Teacher Ding had just displayed, Wang Shuo felt he would be in a very dangerous position. So, how could he control the progress of this research within a reasonable scope?
Go straight ahead with it? That definitely wouldn't work. Although the Intelligent Core was extremely complex and required a lot of code, he already had the entire draft in his head. If they really went for it under his brilliant leadership, building a usable Intelligent Core in English within half a year would be no problem at all. But the issue was... the hardware level was insufficient! Current terminal hardware simply couldn't support an Intelligent Core built on an English code framework. Surely they couldn't just use a supercomputer directly. In Wang Shuo's eyes, Artificial Intelligence had to be portable, something you could carry around. Carrying a supercomputer with you?
Uh... it seemed like a superconducting computer could also do it?
But right now, the superconducting computer was still just a file in his head; at most, he had drawn a few design schematics and saved them on his computer, far from being usable.
So, should he set up artificial obstacles? That didn't seem right either. As a good youth of the new era, Wang Shuo felt his conscience would deeply trouble him.
Well... putting conscience aside for a moment, the main thing was that he had just learned that as an instructor, he would be paid every month... and quite a lot too, a full ten thousand yuan. If he gave lectures, there would even be a subsidy for each class.
How worrying...
Looking at the blank, dazed expressions of the students below, Wang Shuo sighed inwardly. It was better to take it step by step.
Du Juan gently flipped through the booklet in her hand. She didn't pay much attention to the content highlighted with exclamation marks. Right now, there was only one thing that could pique her interest... She raised her head and saw Wang Shuo, standing beside Teacher Ding Runan, frowning as he carefully read the booklet in his hand, seemingly absorbed in it.
Was this... the real Wang Shuo?
Surprised in her heart, Du Juan also felt a bit of self-blame. It was all because she usually didn't care enough about her classmates, let alone a guy like Wang Shuo who had missed most of the classes for half the semester since school started.
If she had paid a bit more attention, perhaps she would have discovered how extraordinary classmate Wang Shuo was?
Du Juan furrowed her brow and thought silently, ultimately shaking her head speechlessly. She realized that it wasn't that she hadn't done well enough, but rather that this guy Wang Shuo... was too bizarre...
Just how bizarre? Being the "fighter jet among academic failures" wasn't just an empty claim; it was the collective consensus of the entire freshman year. Fortunately, as the class monitor, she had still shown token concern for classmate Wang Shuo, so nothing unpleasant had happened.
Du Juan curled her lips, her mood instantly brightening.
Compared to Du Juan's cheerfulness, Li Yao was feeling thoroughly miserable. If there were a crack in the floor right now, he would want nothing more than to crawl right into it. Was there anything more embarrassing than trying to show off only to get slapped in the face?
What was even worse was that Zhou Peng was now standing beside him with an amazed expression, looking at Wang Shuo, and from time to time casting a curious glance at him...
When Zhou Peng looked over yet again, Li Yao could no longer maintain his composure. He put down the booklet that he couldn't understand anyway, grit his teeth, and said, "If you have something to say, say it!"
"Uh, nothing." Zhou Peng quickly shook his head and softly denied it.
A moment later, just as Li Yao was about to steady his mind again, Zhou Peng leaned in once more and said mysteriously, "Did that senior of yours come?"
"Yes, he did!" Li Yao replied testily.
"Then why didn't he tell you the truth?" Li Yao heard Zhou Peng say in a cheeky tone. "Was he afraid you'd be too devastated if you found out?"
You're the one who's devastated! Your whole family is devastated!
Li Yao almost lost his temper. Usually, Zhou Peng seemed quite sharp, so why was he speaking so obnoxiously today? Forget it, ignore him. Li Yao, stay calm.
Suppressing his emotions, Li Yao picked up the booklet again. He decided that even if he couldn't understand it, he would pretend he did. At the very least, he couldn't let certain people look down on him.
"Look, those official team members clearly all know Wang Shuo," Zhou Peng continued his analysis. "They weren't surprised by Wang Shuo's appearance at all."
Although he didn't want to hear Zhou Peng's exceptionally annoying voice today, Li Yao couldn't help but look over at the team of official members. Sure enough, the official members didn't seem to treat Wang Shuo like an outsider at all. Aside from that female professor who was sizing Wang Shuo up with an indescribable gaze, the others didn't even show a hint of surprise; some had even begun discussing while holding their booklets.
Recalling how Wang Shuo had greeted the official members when he first walked in, Li Yao felt a heavy weight in his chest.
He still remembered the words he had just said not long ago...
"I have a senior who is a member of Professor Zeng's research team... Getting into Professor Zeng's research team means having an incredibly bright future, so to speak..."
Damn it, if I had known you knew all the seniors, why the hell would I have even talked to you about it! And you even pretended not to know Professor Zeng, when you've already become a university lecturer and the presiding instructor personally appointed by Professor Zeng! Not knowing Professor Zeng?
I really... fell for your lies!
The more he thought about it, the more stifled he felt, yet Zhou Peng's voice beside him continued to drone on incessantly.
"Li Yao, do you think... this Wang Shuo... could be related to that Wang Shuo? Or maybe even the same person?" Zhou Peng looked intrigued, but then shook his head. "No, no, that's not right. Although this Wang Shuo is amazing, he's still far from that great god. Besides, Wang Shuo doesn't have any companies under his name, so they shouldn't be the same person..."
"Li Yao, you wanted to tutor Wang Shuo before. I originally thought Wang Shuo was just unmotivated... only to find out... I actually feel a bit bad for you now. It's not that you aren't strong, but you chose the wrong opponent! Becoming a university lecturer right after entering school and independently presiding over a research project—we should just look up to someone like that." Zhou Peng comforted Li Yao very considerately, even patting him on the shoulder. "Just like how I see you as out of reach, now that Wang Shuo did this, he's even more out of reach for you!"
Heh, thanks a lot.
Li Yao closed his eyes, finally unable to hold on any longer, and fainted.
"Teacher! Li Yao fainted too!"
