13: Chapter 13 Have they latched onto me?
W City, Hospital Inpatient Department.
When Zheng Jun and Chen Cheng stepped into Wang Shuo's Hospital room with faces full of excitement, Chen Cheng saw the figure he least wanted to see.
A stunning figure was sitting quietly on the sofa beside Wang Shuo's Hospital bed, head buried in a book with an illegible title.
Hearing the noise, she looked up at Zheng Jun and Chen Cheng, then immediately lowered her head to continue reading.
Chen Cheng... was ignored by her.
On the other hand, Wang Shuo looked up at the two brothers and greeted them with a smile: "You guys are here."
"We're here, this is breakfast for you."
Zheng Jun placed the breakfast he was holding on the table. Not daring to speak loudly, he lowered his voice as much as possible, grimacing and pursing his lips at Wang Shuo, seemingly asking when Chen Xin had arrived.
Wang Shuo quietly extended his fingers to make an 'eight' gesture.
Zheng Jun's eyes widened, seemingly in disbelief.
He looked at Wang Shuo, then at Chen Xin, and after doing this a few times, he looked at Chen Cheng, a thoughtful expression appearing on his face.
As for Chen Cheng, ever since he saw Chen Xin, he had no desire to speak. He stood at the doorway with a depressed look on his face, seemingly hesitating about whether to enter or retreat.
"Ahem, Second Brother." Zheng Jun coughed and said loudly on purpose: "I see you are recovering quite well. Not bad, not bad, keep it up, strive to return to school and the dorm as soon as possible. Our teachers have been talking about you every day."
"Oh, you have a guest. Well, you guys chat first. Fourth Brother and I have some things to do at school. You know, school just started, and there's so much to do. We'll be going now, haha, don't be polite, no need to see us out."
After saying this, he quickly turned and left. When he reached the door, he unceremoniously tugged at Chen Cheng, who was still hesitating.
"Clap."
The door slammed shut, and silence quickly returned to the room.
Wang Shuo stared dumbfounded as Zheng Jun left after his exaggerated performance. He looked at Chen Xin, who was still reading intently and hadn't looked up once from the beginning, finding it somewhat incomprehensible.
Is Chen Xin... really that scary?
Why did he feel she was okay?
Silence... continued silence...
Quiet... continued quiet...
Chen Xin seemed completely immersed in her own world, ignoring everyone and everything else around her.
"Um... Miss Chen?"
Chen Xin did not respond.
"Miss Chen?"
Chen Xin still did not respond.
"Chen..."
"What is it?" Chen Xin looked up, staring at Wang Shuo, and asked indifferently.
Alright, Miss Chen was indeed as full of personality as ever; interrupting people was just business as usual for her.
"It's nothing." Wang Shuo rubbed the back of his head, saying somewhat awkwardly: "I just wanted to ask if you'd like to eat some steamed buns?"
Yeah, the steamed buns Zheng Jun had just brought, still hot.
"No need." Chen Xin lowered her head again, ignoring Wang Shuo further.
"Heh... hehe..."
If you're not eating, I will! Since waking up yesterday until now, Wang Shuo hadn't eaten anything.
He skillfully took out a cup of black rice porridge, inserted a straw, took a delightful sip, then took out a large vegetarian steamed bun and took a big bite. Wang Shuo instantly felt completely satisfied.
Sure enough, in this world, besides money, nothing makes people feel more joyful than delicious food. As for whether the bun in his hand counted as a delicacy? Just kidding, if you let a starving person who hasn't eaten for a month try it, let alone a bun, even tree bark or vegetable roots would definitely taste like a feast.
Wang Shuo ate voraciously and happily, completely unaware that the delicate eyebrows of Chen Xin beside him had already furrowed.
After finally waiting for Wang Shuo to finish his breakfast, Chen Xin's furrowed brows slowly smoothed out. Just as she wanted to calm down and continue reading, she discovered that Wang Shuo had produced a toothpick from somewhere, grimacing at his phone screen, occasionally smacking his lips and making "tsk tsk" sounds.
Chen Xin's brows furrowed slightly again, but her good upbringing kept her from speaking out.
A few minutes later, Wang Shuo seemed satisfied with his teeth, put down his phone and the toothpick, leaned against the headboard, and reached out to take a magazine, seemingly preparing to read.
Chen Xin's brows smoothed out again, and she focused her attention on the book in her hands.
Suddenly, a loud blast of music rang out right beside Chen Xin's ear, giving her a slight start.
She looked up, only to find that Wang Shuo was gone from the bed, leaving only his phone on the nightstand, blaring a heart-wrenching song.
From the nearby bathroom came the sound of rushing water, occasionally mixed with Wang Shuo's heart-wrenching singing.
"Our love, ay, ay... glug, glug... once passed will never... glug, glug, glug... return!"
Chen Xin didn't say anything, looking indifferently toward the bathroom. The expression on her face was very calm, but her fingers were already squeezing the book in her hands until it was slightly deformed.
Brushing teeth, washing face, taking care of bodily needs.
After finishing the whole routine, Wang Shuo walked out of the bathroom feeling refreshed and turned off the still-wailing phone.
Only then did he notice Chen Xin, who was quietly watching him.
"Um..." Wang Shuo said somewhat embarrassedly: "I just remembered I hadn't brushed my teeth, so... I didn't disturb your reading, did I?"
Chen Xin felt the calm composure she had cultivated for over a decade suddenly fluctuate. She nodded indifferently and hummed a single word: "Hmm."
"That's good... hehe, it's a habit I've had for years. If I don't belt out a few notes in the morning, I feel uncomfortable." Wang Shuo, getting back into bed, explained earnestly: "When I was at home, my mom also found me annoying, but later she just got used to it... hehe."
Chen Xin didn't speak, seemingly having re-immersed herself in the book in her hands.
Only that slightly furrowed brow, the book in her hands that hadn't been turned for a long time, and the occasional slight glance toward Wang Shuo seemed to reveal something.
Wang Shuo didn't notice any of this.
Seeing that Chen Xin was ignoring him again, he was happy to be left alone. He held the magazine he had just tossed aside, looking at it seriously as if he were actually reading, while his mind raced, recalling the data he had just received yesterday regarding the cultural aspects of the Humanoid Race civilization. These things were simply more exciting and interesting than a movie.
Noticing that Wang Shuo wasn't causing any more trouble, Chen Xin's expression relaxed a bit. Her furrowed brows slowly smoothed out, and she began to flip through the pages of her book.
In the quiet room, the sunlight was just right. The two people, one on the bed and one off, were each immersed in their own world. Only the occasional sound of the girl turning a page broke the silence; the time was so beautiful that one couldn't bear to disturb it.
Time passed slowly just like that.
When Wang Shuo finally came back to his senses, it was already evening. The sun was hanging obliquely on the horizon, leaving only crimson afterglow shining obliquely through the window, hitting the side of Chen Xin's face, making Chen Xin, who was sitting by the window, seem to glow.
Wang Shuo sighed, this girl was truly... very beautiful.
But the time now... Wang Shuo looked at his phone; it was already past seven in the evening.
"Um... Miss... Chen?"
Although Wang Shuo really didn't want to disturb Chen Xin, if he didn't speak up now, he couldn't be sure how much longer this girl in front of him would stay.
This time, Chen Xin reacted quickly; she looked up, her clear eyes filled with confusion.
"Although I'm very reluctant, I still have to say one thing. Miss Chen... shouldn't you be heading back?"
Chen Xin finally came back to her senses. She looked at the sky outside the window, stood up, put a bookmark in the book in her hands, and then placed it on the windowsill with extra care.
Wang Shuo stared blankly; what was the meaning of this?
Watching Chen Xin silently walk toward the door, Wang Shuo couldn't help but remind her.
"Miss Chen, you... seem to have forgotten your book."
Chen Xin's footsteps paused. Being reminded by Wang Shuo, she seemed to remember something.
"I will come tomorrow at 8:30, and I will bring you breakfast. Remember, don't touch my book."
After saying this, she walked out of the Hospital room without looking back.
Wang Shuo could only watch helplessly as the door to the Hospital room closed. He was a bit bewildered now.
This girl... is she stuck with me?
