7: Chapter 7 Wang Shuo in the Hospital

W City, People's Hospital.

Chen Cheng walked out of the Hospital's hot water room carrying a thermos and turned into a high-end private ward.

He placed the thermos on the bedside table, then turned to look at the tall young man sitting by the bed, saying with a hint of pity, "Boss, you should go back first. It's fine if I watch over him here."

The young man was none other than Zheng Jun. At this moment, he looked haggard, sitting beside the Hospital bed, staring blankly at the patient as if he hadn't heard Chen Cheng speak.

"Boss, please go back. You haven't slept for two consecutive days. If this continues, your health will collapse." As Chen Cheng said this, he glanced at the heart monitor nearby. "I see that this kid Wang Shuo's heartbeat is so steady; there shouldn't be any problems. He will definitely wake up."

"Chen Cheng, do you think we did something wrong?" Zheng Jun's weak voice came through. "Should we not have dragged Wang Shuo into a drinking contest? Look at how frail he is; I should have known he couldn't hold his liquor."

"This..." Chen Cheng really wanted to say that there wasn't a single thing about this kid Wang Shuo's body that was even remotely frail, but looking at Wang Shuo lying on the bed, the words died on his lips.

Ever since that drinking binge that night, Wang Shuo had remained in a coma. It had now been a full month and three days. The school's military training was over, yet Wang Shuo was still lying in the Hospital.

However, who knows what kind of luck this kid had. His own cold and icy sister had somehow found out about him, not only visiting him twice but also covering all the Hospital expenses.

Tsk tsk, at least he saved a sum of money.

Moving from the intensive care unit to a VIP private ward was no small expense.

But then again, seeing this kid lie there for a month without any signs of waking up, Chen Cheng was also a bit worried. What if he ended up becoming a vegetable?

Chen Cheng couldn't help but glance at Zheng Jun. Having not slept for two days, Zheng Jun had dark circles under his eyes and looked utterly haggard. The boss appeared careless and heartless on the outside, but as soon as something happened, his true colors emerged. If he was like this now, would he be killed by his own conscience if another month passed?

Should he use his connections again to bring in an expert to take a look?

That last so-called brain expert actually said Wang Shuo was dreaming while lying in the Hospital bed? Pfft, does your kid dream for a month without waking up?

He even claimed to be an expert from a top-tier Grade A Hospital in S City. He had gone through the trouble of using his dad's connections to invite him, and that was the kind of nonsense he spouted to fool a child? He was eighteen already; did the guy think he was still a little kid?

Thinking of that expert, Chen Cheng's expression soured. But since there was no better option, he could only offer some words of comfort to Zheng Jun. He had to settle this big lug down first; otherwise, with two out of the four roommates down right after school started, how would they ever hold their heads up in school once word got out?

"Boss, you have nothing to worry about. I have already invited the best expert to diagnose Wang Shuo. It will definitely be fine." Chen Cheng looked confident. As for where the expert was, well, Chen Cheng decided to go back and look online. He didn't believe there was an expert who didn't love money.

"Really?" Zheng Jun raised his head, looking at Chen Cheng, then frowned. "It won't be the same kind of expert as last time, right?"

The one from last time? Chen Cheng recalled some unpleasant memories and quickly shook his head. "Of course not. This time, it's an absolute authority, a brain expert, not that 'brain-shell' expert from before."

"Sigh." Zheng Jun felt like he had used up a lifetime's worth of sighs this past month. "You say it's been a month, why hasn't he woken up yet? His uncle and aunt have already called several times. I didn't have the guts to tell them, so I kept making excuses that Wang Shuo wasn't around. This isn't right." Zheng Jun was silent for a moment, then asked weakly, "Should we tell the truth? Tell his uncle and aunt that Wang Shuo is in the Hospital?"

Chen Cheng shook his head. "Boss, you have to consider his uncle and aunt too. We are covering the medical expenses, and Wang Shuo's vital signs are stable. The doctor said there's a high chance he will wake up. If Wang Shuo wakes up and finds out we alarmed his parents over a small matter, causing them worry and fear—if nothing goes wrong, it's fine, but if something does, how are we going to answer for it?"

Zheng Jun nodded. He also felt that what Chen Cheng said was correct. Sometimes, excessive concern leads to chaos, and it's very easy for problems to arise.

"Ten more days. If Wang Shuo still doesn't wake up in ten days, we must tell his uncle and aunt no matter what. It doesn't matter if they beat me or scold me."

Zheng Jun gritted his teeth and made up his mind. In his view, Wang Shuo lying on the bed in a coma was inseparable from him dragging him into a drinking contest. If Wang Shuo really couldn't wake up, let alone Wang Shuo's parents, he wouldn't be able to forgive himself.

Chen Cheng silently patted Zheng Jun's shoulder. He understood Zheng Jun's feelings very well. It wasn't just Zheng Jun who drank with Wang Shuo. If a major problem really occurred, the three of them in the dormitory—everyone involved—wouldn't be able to escape responsibility.

No longer trying to persuade Zheng Jun to go back, Chen Cheng silently looked at Wang Shuo, who was lying on the bed in a coma with a faint smile still on his lips, and sighed inwardly. Wang Shuo, oh Wang Shuo, you must hold on.

For a time, both men fell silent, leaving only the ticking of the heart monitor. The atmosphere in the room seemed somewhat heavy.

This atmosphere didn't last long before it was broken; the creaking sound of the door opening was exceptionally distinct in such an environment.

Chen Cheng turned his head to look and saw a beautifully dressed girl walk in. A light blue dress showcased her lovely figure to perfection, and her long hair that reached her back was as smooth as silk.

The girl held a fruit gift box in her hand, walked past Chen Cheng indifferently, and placed the gift box on the table beside the Hospital bed. Then, she turned to look at Wang Shuo lying on the bed, her delicate eyebrows slightly furrowed as she asked, "Have you not called anyone to take a look at him?"

Chen Cheng's eyebrows twitched, and he held back from speaking.

"He has been lying here for such a long time. If he doesn't wake up soon, it is highly likely that he will become a permanent vegetable, and his brain activity will likely cease. Do you know that!"

"If you, his classmate, cannot find a doctor, then tell me, and I will find one!"

Chen Cheng finally couldn't hold it in and retorted angrily, "What is that attitude, Chen Xin? I'm your cousin, after all! And—" Chen Cheng was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on; his fur stood up. He pointed to Wang Shuo on the bed. "He is my classmate! What does he have to do with you! For this past month, you've paid the money and visited the person! What else do you want to boss us around for! Let me tell you, just because you like him doesn't mean he likes you! Miss Chen!"

"You..." The girl's lips moved, but in the end, she didn't retort. She said indifferently, "What I choose to do has nothing to do with you, and you don't need to know either."

"Tell me promptly when he wakes up. I have matters to attend to, so I'm leaving."

As the ward door slammed shut, Zheng Jun finally snapped out of his daze.

"Wow," Zheng Jun exclaimed. "Chen Cheng, your cousin is quite fierce."

Chen Cheng waved his hand, feeling as if he had been stifled, and was too depressed to speak.

"But Fourth Brother..." A trace of doubt appeared on Zheng Jun's face. "Didn't you say that you were the one paying for all of Wang Shuo's Hospital expenses? You even patted your chest and promised us that, right?"

Chen Cheng: "..."

Chen Xin, oh Chen Xin! Are you a demon sent by heaven to punish me!
