58: Chapter 58 Wang Shuo Recruits Employees
Predicting things like this is just like gambling; it has always been a matter of estimation. You can estimate optimistically, or you can estimate pessimistically. Wang Shuo was clearly overly optimistic in his estimation.
Although he spoke with absolute certainty, sometimes things were far less smooth than planned.
Wang Shuo lay bored on a table at the job fair, watching the bustling crowds submitting resumes at other booths, filled with envy.
If only these people would come to submit their resumes to him, how great that would be! Alas...
Watching yet another unemployed young man stare at the A3 sheet he had posted for a long time before shaking his head and walking away in disappointment, Wang Shuo felt utterly depressed.
He had been here for a full four hours. From arriving at eight in the morning, to finishing all the paperwork and "setting up shop" by eight-thirty, to now, past noon, yet still having nothing to show for it, he had experienced a four-hour emotional rollercoaster.
From the initial confidence to his current anxiety.
The standards for employees were lowered again and again, dropping from graduate students to graduates of second-tier universities; from requiring work experience to requiring none at all; from women only to no gender restrictions; from under 25 to under 35.
Even so, no one had stopped at his booth, let alone submitted a resume. To this moment, his box for resumes remained empty.
Wang Shuo looked at the table in front of him and began to reflect.
Was his booth too shabby? Look at the other booths; every single one had been meticulously prepared with large posters, attractive photos, and recruitment information that made them look like powerful, established companies. And his... aside from a single A3 sheet he had printed on the spot with the words "Frontier Technology Co., Ltd." and some scribbled requirements, there was nothing else. It was utterly pathetic.
Was it because he didn't have a company profile? Looking at the dazzling honors, history, and achievements displayed on the other posters, then looking at his own company name consisting of only one line of text, Wang Shuo hesitated. Should he write down the achievements Professor Zeng had told him about? After all, it was the only business he had conducted in the company's name, and there was a formal contract—it was absolutely genuine and reliable.
As for the content... well, he would write that it had been highly recognized by industry insider Tianya, was renowned in the industry, and was leading globally.
Would that... be a bit too ostentatious?
"Frontier Technology Co., Ltd.? Are you looking for someone in finance?"
Just as Wang Shuo was lost in thought, a clear female voice rang out.
...
Xu Kexin had been holed up at home for a month. It was a month without income, and a month of pure torment.
Thinking of her mother's nagging all day long gave Xu Kexin a headache. As a twenty-five-year-old woman, she wasn't exactly considered "old," and it wasn't yet time for her family to desperately pressure her into marriage, but the killer was... she had neither a boyfriend nor a job.
In this materialistic era, you might get away with not having a boyfriend, but you couldn't get away with not being able to support yourself—that was a cardinal sin. Consequently, Xu Kexin became a target for her relatives. One day someone would introduce a "good guy," the next someone else would come to play matchmaker, and eventually, even her own mother started getting involved personally. It was driving Xu Kexin crazy.
The power of her mother was something no other relative or friend could compare to.
And so, after barely a month at home, Xu Kexin could no longer stand it.
Finding a boyfriend required luck, but finding a job just required competence!
As a graduate with a solid background in accounting, she refused to believe she couldn't find a decent job.
And so, she was here!
But history had a funny way of repeating itself. She had never imagined that despite predicting everything and planning out every step of her career path, she would hit an insurmountable wall at the very first hurdle—her resume had been rejected! And not just once, but by four different companies!
Their tone was uncannily consistent; they all claimed to appreciate her work ethic and attitude, but said the company currently had no vacancies in their finance department, so they had to regretfully decline.
Hmph... a bunch of sanctimonious hypocrites. This was clearly gender discrimination! It was academic discrimination!
Couldn't a junior college graduate in accounting have a job of her own? Couldn't an employee who had been fired once have a second chance at her career?
This was blatant discrimination!
But discrimination was one thing; if they wouldn't even accept her resume, it was like they wouldn't even open a window for her, let alone a door to enter the company.
Xu Kexin had to lower her standards, step by step, from top-tier corporations to second-rate, third-rate, and finally to small, insignificant companies.
Hmm, this Frontier Technology Co., Ltd. before her looked very much like one of those insignificant small companies.
A company like this probably wouldn't mind her academic qualifications or work experience.
But...
"What?" Xu Kexin stared at the text on the A3 sheet with wide eyes. "You're looking for a financial accountant, and you actually require a postgraduate degree?!"
Wang Shuo looked up helplessly and pointed to the small text written in pen next to the printed font. "Not that one. This one."
"You still require an undergraduate degree?!"
"This is already the lowest—" Wang Shuo's muttered reply was cut off by Xu Kexin.
"I only have a junior college degree. Here is my resume. Do you want it or not?" Xu Kexin glared at him. "If not, I'm going to the next booth."
Wang Shuo was momentarily speechless. Thinking back on his miserable morning and then looking at the girl, who was actually quite pretty, he gritted his teeth and said, "Yes."
He casually took the resume, tossed it into the box on the desk, and yawned.
"Congratulations, you've been hired by our company!"
"That's it? I'm hired?" Xu Kexin was stunned. What about the written test? The interview? The brutal screening process?
"Of course. Our company isn't that complicated."
Wang Shuo checked his watch as he spoke. It was almost one o'clock. He still needed a receptionist, but given the situation, it was unlikely to happen today. He had things to do in the afternoon and had no time to spend another few hours manning the booth. But if he ended it just like this, it would be hard to report back. Why not...
Wang Shuo pointed to the other end of the A3 sheet.
"I have another position available here. Do you want it? If you do, I'll pay you double."
Xu Kexin stared blankly. What was this? A "buy one, get one free" deal? Is this how people find jobs? She looked at the kid in front of her, who was even younger than she was, and for the first time, she felt uneasy. Had she accidentally joined a shady company? Would she be brutally murdered on her first day of work, or maybe even worse...
But... double the pay... that sounded very tempting.
Xu Kexin hesitated, frowned, and gritted her teeth.
"I'll take it! When do I start?"
