350: Chapter 349: The Demonic Shadow

Shooting with a gun in each hand usually only serves to increase firepower density under limited conditions, in order to suppress the enemy; as for shooting accuracy, it is not within the scope of consideration.

But this did not include Zheng Yi.

Gripping her guns, Zheng Yi observed the situation slightly.

Of the original two Drones, one had already been shot down by the opponent's precision fire. Only one remained, hovering not far away and continuously firing projectiles at the support pillar. The sparks instantly ignited by metal striking the wall were exceptionally clear in the dark environment.

"Madam, please prioritize your own safety. Number 098 will temporarily provide you with necessary protection."

"Target threat level adjusted to: Medium-High. Executing support mechanism, emergency deployment, emergency deployment."

Before the voice finished, a series of buzzing sounds rang out rapidly.

Zheng Yi was slightly stunned; she retracted her body, which had already leaned out, back into the support pillar and turned her head to look at the corridor entrance.

She saw Drone after Drone flying out from the passageway. In just over ten seconds, more than a dozen Drones appeared in the underground parking lot.

Red and green lights flickered everywhere; just looking at it, it was extremely oppressive.

The Drones did not linger. As soon as they appeared, they adjusted their formation, aimed their black cameras at the direction where the opponent was hiding, accelerated violently, and charged from all directions.

A dense rain of bullets fired simultaneously, with countless sparks bursting on the support pillar, resembling blooming Epiphyllums.

Watching this scene, Zheng Yi took a light breath.

With this density of firepower, the opponent dared not show their head, let alone counterattack.

But if they did not counterattack, given the speed of the Drones, it would only take a few seconds to surround them completely. By then, they would only die an even uglier death.

There was not much time left for the opponent; Zheng Yi could even feel the despair in the opponent's heart at this moment.

The opponent was indeed very strong. Being able to use a pistol to shoot down several Drones barehanded, even in China, would be considered the level of a top-tier soldier, not inferior to herself.

But at this moment, he was not facing a person, but Drone after Drone, swarming in groups. Even if he could shoot down five, six, or even ten, what of it?

As long as one Drone remained, it could still aim its electromagnetic cannon at his head. The projectiles fired by the Drones were not very powerful, not even as powerful as a Type 92 pistol, but they were definitely enough to shatter a skull.

For the first time, Zheng Yi had a feeling that humans were inferior to machines, which slightly shook the philosophy of "man can conquer nature" that she had been taught for many years.

Despite her myriad thoughts, Zheng Yi's gaze never left the support pillar where the opponent was hiding. As long as the opponent made any move, she would give a powerful response with the twin guns in her hands.

The anticipated counterattack was long in coming; the opponent seemed to have accepted their fate, allowing the Drones to approach.

Five meters, four meters, three meters...

Just as the Drones were about to bypass the support pillar, two black objects were suddenly thrown from behind the cover. Zheng Yi keenly heard the sound of metal hitting the ground. She was stunned for a moment, then her expression changed drastically, and she shouted: "Close your eyes!"

"Bang, bang!"

A blinding white light exploded, and the dark underground became as bright as day in an instant. Accompanied by an invisible wave, the swarm of Drones, which had been close at hand, instantly burst into sparks and fell from the air one after another. Even the Drone hovering next to Zheng Yi did not escape, crashing at Zheng Yi's feet.

Opening her eyes, Zheng Yi had no time to pay attention to the Drones at her feet that had lost their ability to function. She gripped her gun and leaned out to observe the situation, and sure enough, she discovered that the opponent had darted out from the support pillar and was running rapidly toward the next cover.

She raised her pistol and fired immediately, two shots rang out, but it was too late; the opponent had already hidden behind the next cover.

Here, it was only one cover away from her flank; as long as the opponent successfully crossed this distance, they could shoot at her at any time.

The Drones on the ground were still sparking, the hissing sound was exceptionally harsh; clearly, it wasn't ordinary damage, but total destruction.

Zheng Yi frowned; she knew what caused this.

"Flashbangs and high-energy EMP bombs."

She could understand the flashbangs. Even though they were hard to get in China, with the strength of this organization, it wouldn't be too difficult to obtain. But EMP bombs were rare items.

Zheng Yi was a soldier herself. As the saying goes, the ones who understand the enemy best are often the enemies themselves.

As far as she knew, the smallest EMP bomb in the world today had a volume of at least fifty Centimeter, and could only be deployed using certain grenade launchers. If a lethal effect was required, the size of that kind of EMP bomb would require an aircraft to deploy.

Such a large size clearly did not match the dimensions of the object she had just seen.

An EMP bomb with such a small size but such astonishing energy density that it could directly destroy Drone circuits—Zheng Yi thought for a long time but couldn't think of any country in the world that had equipped such a thing.

If she couldn't think of it, then she wouldn't think about it. Zheng Yi was never a person to dwell on things. If the Drones couldn't be relied upon, she would rely on herself. She turned to look at her team member and said softly: "I'm going to assault. Do you have any issues?"

The team member shook his head gently: "Captain, go ahead. Don't worry about me."

"Wait here. I will definitely bring you back."

Zheng Yi checked her magazine again, replenished her ammunition, held the gun in her hand, took a deep breath, and leaned out to look at the opposite side.

She fired a shot, the bullet hit the support pillar with a "bang," splashing up fine sparks.

At the same time, Zheng Yi rolled out of the cover.

The opponent clearly noticed it and stuck out an arm, wanting to counterattack and force Zheng Yi back, but two bullets immediately hit nearby, forcing him back.

The barrage was not dense, but it was very lethal. Whenever the opponent showed signs of showing their head, the whistling bullets would appear nearby at just the right time, forcing him back again.

The advantage of holding guns in both hands was undoubtedly revealed at this moment. The fault tolerance was greatly improved. Even if the prediction of one gun was off, Zheng Yi could adjust with the other gun at any time, ensuring continuous suppression.

While firing, Zheng Yi approached the support pillar. In a few strides, she had already arrived behind the cover.

The enemy was right behind her.

Taking a light breath, Zheng Yi suddenly turned around, moving at an extremely fast speed to circle behind the pillar. Her twin guns were already pre-aimed; as soon as the opponent appeared in her field of vision, she could fire immediately.

At this moment, she no longer had any illusions about capturing the opponent alive. As long as she could bring the team member back safely, whether the mission was completed or not was not important.

Just as she turned, a huge force came. Zheng Yi felt pain, the pistol in her hand was knocked to the ground, and a pair of large hands gripped one of her arms.

Immediately, a European or American male about 1.8 meters tall appeared before her eyes, his pitch-black eyes staring at her, incomparably cold and chilling.

Zheng Yi's heart sank; she tried to pull her arm back, but it didn't move at all.

She lifted a foot and kicked hard toward the man's lower body. If this kick landed solidly, even an iron man would have to fall.

The man shook his head slightly, blocked it gently, intercepted the blow, and then also lifted a foot, directly kicking Zheng Yi flying away.

As Zheng Yi spat out a mouthful of blood, the basement lights turned back on, and the underground parking lot, full of parts, revealed its full picture again.

Zheng Yi narrowed her eyes slightly and cast her gaze at the man before her. Only now did she discover that this man was wearing a set of black equipment, tightly attached to his back, with two straps tied tightly around each of his arms and legs, as if it were a single whole.

"This is... an Exoskeleton?"

Zheng Yi was somewhat surprised and suspicious. This piece of equipment, suspected to be an Exoskeleton, was very different from the simple frame-type Exoskeletons she had seen, looking full of a sense of technology.

"You... are strong."

The man spoke, lifting his arm to reveal a hideous wound. He raised his arms, and his two fist peaks collided violently, making a "bang" sound.

"But I... am stronger."

"Alright, Hans, don't scare our dear hostage."

A Middle-aged man walked out from behind the man, with a faint smile, saying: "She is the only guarantee of whether we can walk out of here."

The Middle-aged man was also wearing a set of equipment; looking at the shape and style, it should be something from the same series.

Zheng Yi's heart sank slightly. This mysterious organization, from who knows where, could it already mass-produce this kind of equipment?

At this moment, how could she not know that when the European or American man confronted her just now, he didn't just rely on his own strength? She would have a gap in strength with the opponent, but it wouldn't be so huge, and it wouldn't be huge enough to kick her flying four or five meters with one kick.

Everything could only indicate that he borrowed the power of the Exoskeleton on his back.

This Exoskeleton is powered!

This was a very important piece of intelligence. Zheng Yi secretly noted it down, raised her head, and looked at the Middle-aged man opposite, saying: "Who are you?"

"Who am I?"

The Middle-aged man chuckled: "You'd better save that question to ask other Executors."

Checking the time, the Middle-aged man continued: "It took quite a bit of time to catch you. You'd better be able to prove your value, otherwise, I will only be able to turn you into a research specimen."

Zheng Yi said calmly: "This is China. If you surrender now, I can apply for lenient treatment for you."

"China?"

The Middle-aged man grinned: "Just because this is China, we would spare no effort to capture you, Ms. Zheng Yi, or should I say... Senior Colonel Zheng Yi?"

Zheng Yi's eyes narrowed slightly, her expression becoming even colder: "I don't know what you are talking about."

"It seems our hostage still holds unrealistic fantasies."

The Middle-aged man revealed a strange smile: "What are you expecting? Is it those Drones? Or the follow-up team that has been delayed in supporting you? Or perhaps those police officers?"

"Ms. Zheng Yi, aren't you curious? How much time has passed? Why hasn't your support arrived? Why haven't those police officers arrived at the scene?"

"Let me tell you. You have already been betrayed, and the one who betrayed you is the country you trust the most."

Zheng Yi did not speak, looking coldly at the Middle-aged man.

The Middle-aged man chuckled: "I know you don't believe it, but please think about it. If the Chinese military hadn't betrayed you, why would I know your identity? If the Chinese military hadn't betrayed you, why would I have caught you here? If the Chinese military hadn't betrayed you, why would your support be delayed? If the Chinese military hadn't betrayed you, why would the police who were supposed to be at the scene to maintain order not have arrived? If the military hadn't betrayed you, why could we have developed and grown under everyone's noses?"

"Give up your fantasies, Ms. Zheng Yi. This is a transaction, and you are the bargaining chip they placed on the scale."

Zheng Yi still did not speak, her heart just kept sinking.

She carefully recalled everything that had happened during this period, trying to find the key points to connect everything together.

Seeing that Zheng Yi did not speak, the Middle-aged man felt a bit bored, waved his hand and said: "Hans, take her, we are evacuating from here."

Then, remembering something, he looked at the male team member still lying under the support pillar.

"Dispose of him. Don't leave any survivors."

Zheng Yi suddenly sat up straight and said sternly: "He is an active-duty Chinese soldier. If you dare to kill him, the Chinese military will not let you go!"

The Middle-aged man said calmly: "You should worry more about yourself. Do it."

Hans nodded slightly, raised his hand, and a white pistol appeared in his palm.

The team member raised his head, smiled faintly at Zheng Yi, and slightly opened his mouth to say a few words.

Zheng Yi understood; it was: "Captain, goodbye."

"No!"

Zheng Yi's eyes were splitting with rage; she wanted to get up to stop it, but the severe pain in her abdomen made her spasm on the ground. She could only watch helplessly as Hans aimed his muzzle at the team member's direction.

And just as Hans was about to pull the trigger, a Drone rushed out of the passageway.

Hans immediately turned the muzzle and fired three shots at the Drone; the Drone crashed to the ground, splashing out wisps of sparks.

The Middle-aged man frowned slightly: "These things are really like ghosts that won't go away."

"The Publisher, we have to leave as soon as possible. These things will soon arrive in swarms, and we don't have any extra EMP bombs left."

Hans said, using standard English.

"Damn it."

The Middle-aged man cursed under his breath, pointed at the team member: "You finish him off, I'll go take that woman."

With the Exoskeleton on, carrying a woman is not much heavier than carrying a box of milk.

Hans nodded, and the Middle-aged man immediately ignored him, walked straight to Zheng Yi, and reached out to grab Zheng Yi.

And at this moment, an accident suddenly occurred.

Before Hans's bullet could be fired, it was interrupted by a muffled, booming voice.

"Finally found you. So, you're here."

Hans and the Middle-aged man's gazes simultaneously looked in the direction the voice came from. They saw that in the direction of the passageway entrance, Drone after Drone had appeared, no one knew when, filling the entire field of vision densely.

And in the center of the dark, dense swarm of Drones, a tall, black figure stood indifferently.

Like a demon god!
