220: The man behind Qisai
After all, the arrival of the Inspector meant a storm was about to brew in the Prague Galaxy, and no one knew what would happen next.
Everyone gathered, discussing the matter in hushed tones, their eyes occasionally glancing towards the Imperial Court entrance, awaiting the Inspector's appearance.
Finally, amidst everyone's nervous anticipation, Li Yang and his entourage appeared in their sight, walking with steady, powerful steps.
Seeing this, Pild, the chief justice of the Imperial Court of the Prague Galaxy, whose hands were already slightly clenched from tension, now instinctively tightened his grip even more.
He dared not delay for a moment and quickly stepped forward to greet them.
Pild approached Li Yang, his face instantly breaking into a warm, enthusiastic smile.
“Hello, I am Pild, the chief justice of the Imperial Court of the Prague Galaxy. You must be Inspector Li Yang, correct?”
As he spoke, he bowed slightly, his eyes filled with reverence.
Looking at the smiling Pild, Li Yang reciprocated the courtesy, also smiling as he extended his hand and politely shook Pild's hand.
“Chief Justice Pild, I presume you are already aware of the purpose of our visit, correct?”
Li Yang said unhurriedly.
“You can rest assured, Inspector Li,”
Pild nodded quickly, his smile becoming even brighter, and he said with an unshakeable tone.
“Regarding the trial of comrade Qi Sai, I will strictly adhere to the Imperial laws, showing no favoritism, ensuring fairness and justice, and providing a satisfactory account to the Empire.”
His eyes revealed a firm resolve, as if demonstrating his serious attitude towards the matter to Li Yang.
“Alright, let’s go then.”
Li Yang said concisely; though his words were brief, they carried an undeniable authority.
With that, he strode confidently into the Imperial Court of the Prague Galaxy, surrounded by Pild and the others.
Everyone followed closely behind Li Yang, the scene solemn and serious.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the city, Guard Division soldiers heading to Qi Sai's residence were collecting evidence.
They left no corner untouched that might hide clues, and after a meticulous search, they finally organized all the collected evidence and swiftly brought it to the Imperial Court to hand over to Li Yang.
Li Yang took the evidence, his eyes quickly scanning it, gaining a deeper grasp of the case.
Pild, who was standing nearby, also leaned over and, upon seeing the conclusive evidence, couldn't help but frown slightly, then quickly promised Li Yang with an oath.
“Inspector Li, rest assured, seeing this evidence, I have a clear understanding, and I will certainly make Qi Sai pay the price he deserves for his actions; he will not be let off lightly.”
...Inside the Guard Division's detention room, the atmosphere was so oppressive it was suffocating.
Qi Sai paced back and forth like an ant on a hot pan in the cramped space, large beads of sweat constantly rolling down his forehead, soaking his collar.
Finally, as if having made some decision, he hastily used his smart-brain, his body trembling, to send a call request to his patron.
“Beep... calling...”
The waiting tone of the call sounded particularly harsh in his mind, each beep seemingly striking heavily on Qi Sai's heart.
“Qi Sai, is there something you need me for?”
Once the call connected, a cold and slightly impatient voice came from the other end.
“Sir, I... I’m in big trouble...”
Qi Sai's voice was tearful, his anxiety evident.
“What trouble?”
The other party seemed slightly stunned, a hint of confusion in his tone.
“Could it be that Aistan wants to target you? That shouldn't be; from what I know of him, he's not that kind of person, is he?”
“It's not Aistan...”
Qi Sai quickly shook his head, his voice trembling slightly from nervousness.
“Then what kind of trouble is it?”
A hint of displeasure entered the other party's voice.
“You are a dignified Speaker; in this Prague Galaxy, besides Aistan, who else can threaten you?”
“It's... an Inspector has arrived...”
Qi Sai gritted his teeth, struggling to utter those words.
As soon as he said this, the other end of the call fell into instant silence, as if time itself had frozen at that moment.
“Hello? Sir, you must save me!”
Seeing the other end remain silent, Qi Sai's emotions completely broke down, and he shouted into the smart-brain almost desperately.
At this moment, he was like a person about to drown in the vast ocean, and this so-called “Sir” was his only lifeline.
After a long while, the so-called Sir finally spoke slowly, his tone more cautious.
“Which Inspector? Do you have a specific name?”
Seeing this, Qi Sai, as if grasping the last straw, eagerly recounted the entire sequence of events, from his son Qi Ba's conflict with Li Yang at the Hope Merchant Guild, to Li Yang revealing his Inspector identity, then to himself being controlled by Guard Division soldiers led by Aistan, and the subsequent trial he might face, detailing everything without omission.
He spoke until his throat was dry, his voice filled with anxiety and panic, hoping to make the “Sir” on the other end of the line clearly understand the situation and thus extend a helping hand.
“Li... Yang?”
The voice on the other end of the call paused, seemingly trying to recall.
“Sounds a bit familiar, let me check.”
Hearing this, Qi Sai instantly felt the extremely tense nerves in his body relax slightly.
From the looks of it, this normally high and mighty Sir seemed willing to help him after all.
After all, for so many years, in order to secure his position, he had dutifully handed over most of the illicit gains from various illegal activities to him.
Qi Sai secretly prayed in his heart, hoping that the Sir would remember his past “contributions” and pull him out of this predicament.
A moment later, a stern, icy voice came from the other end of the phone, like a cold winter wind, piercing straight through Qi Sai's body, making him shiver involuntarily.
“Qi Sai, listen to me now, confess everything you've done honestly and strive for leniency. Also, you absolutely cannot expose me, otherwise... you understand!”
Upon hearing this, Qi Sai was instantly dumbfounded.
He widened his eyes, his face filled with an expression of disbelief.
Didn't he just tell him to wait for news, preparing to find a way to get him out?
How could his attitude suddenly do a complete 180-degree turn now?
“But... Sir, weren't you just going to get me out?”
Qi Sai refused to give up, his voice tearful, asking almost pleadingly.
After all, he knew clearly that the things he had done were serious; according to Imperial law, at the very least, he would face a hundred years in prison, and if judged severely, it might even be the death penalty.
How could he possibly give up struggling completely and just comply?
