46: Cleansing of Border City
After dealing with Duke Rabick, Sigri dared not delay for a moment and immediately gathered the city's garrison in the spacious central square.
"It's almost dark. Why did the City Lord call us so urgently?"
"Who knows..."
It took almost half an hour to finally gather all the city's garrison in the square.
"What are those things?"
Some Soldiers looked at the armored vehicles parked on the side of the square, full of doubts, and couldn't help but whisper.
"Everyone, the reason I gathered you here is actually not a big deal... I just want to ask if you are willing to follow me wholeheartedly?"
Sigri stood on the high platform and said loudly.
Listening to Sigri's inexplicable question, everyone was confused and bewildered, whispering to each other, "Follow you? Follow you to do what?"
Before they could think deeper, Sigri spoke again.
"Those who are willing to follow me wholeheartedly should stand on the left side of the square. Those who are not willing should remain in place."
"What's going on! What's with this 'willing or unwilling'? Is the City Lord out of his mind?"
Everyone still hadn't reacted, and no one started to move.
"One last minute. Those who are willing to follow me, stand on the left..."
Although no one knew what Sigri was really planning, the Soldiers who were truly willing to follow Sigri slowly began to move, walking out of the crowd and standing on the left side of the square.
"3... 2... 1... Okay, time's up. It seems I've been quite a failure as a City Lord, hahahaha."
Seeing that only a third of the people stood on the left, willing to follow him, while the rest remained motionless in their original positions, Sigri couldn't help but mock himself, a bitter smile on his face.
He had told Andegu earlier that half of the people were his, but he didn't expect it to be less than half. How laughable.
"Hey! Sigri, what exactly do you want to do?"
Another Eighth-Level Mage standing in front of the crowd pointed at Sigri and shouted loudly.
He was not afraid of Sigri's status as City Lord; after all, he was a noble Eighth-Level Mage, while Sigri was merely a seventh-level fellow.
"Everyone, please proceed..."
As soon as Sigri finished speaking, before everyone could understand what he meant, the company of Soldiers, who had been waiting in formation by the square, unhesitatingly picked up their weapons and decisively pulled the triggers.
"Bang bang bang!"
Bullets of various calibers whizzed towards the crowd like a torrential rain. The Soldiers had no time to react and were hit by the bullets.
The Eighth-Level Mage, in particular, received special "attention," with the armored vehicle's 30mm autocannon continuously blasting him without pause.
"Bastard! Sigri, are you trying to rebel?"
After the company of Soldiers' storm-like attack, only the Eighth-Level Mage remained standing alone in the entire square. He was covered in wounds, one hand struggling to support a magic barrier, and he glared at Sigri, shouting loudly.
"Indeed, under a frontal attack, ordinary firepower is no match for these high-level Mages."
Looking at the merely wounded Eighth-Level Mage, the company commander couldn't help but sigh helplessly, his brows furrowed. It seemed heavy weapons would be needed to break their barriers.
"It's fine, just leave it to me..."
Sigri unhesitatingly drew his saber and slowly walked towards the Eighth-Level Mage with steady steps.
As for the saber, it must have been newly acquired from the City Lord's mansion, as his previous weapon had been shattered by bullets in the previous battle.
"Although I don't know what these weapons of yours are, I am an Eighth-Level Mage! Weapons of this power can't kill me!"
Watching Sigri approach him step by step, the Eighth-Level Mage quickly lowered the magic barrier in his hand, then swiftly cast another magic array with both hands.
"Explosive Flame Art!"
A powerful flame instantly appeared in front of the Eighth-Level Mage. He raised this raging flame and fiercely charged straight towards Sigri.
He didn't care about a mere seventh-level warrior at all. One must know that the gap between levels was not insignificant; let alone one seventh-level, even ten, and he would still be absolutely confident in taking them down.
Watching the Eighth-Level Mage charging straight at him, Sigri remained calm and composed, standing still.
Just as the distance between them was only a few meters, Sigri suddenly and with lightning speed pulled out a shotgun from behind him and aimed it at him.
"Bang!"
Sigri decisively pulled the trigger. A 12-gauge slug shot out of the barrel. The Eighth-Level Mage, who had no time to react and re-summon his barrier, was directly hit by this powerful slug, and his entire chest was instantly pierced through.
"Why did you..."
Before he could finish his sentence, the Eighth-Level Mage's eyes widened, and he died completely. Even in death, he never expected Sigri to also possess such mysterious and strange weapons.
A moment of carelessness and blind confidence cost him his life. If he had cautiously kept his barrier active, he wouldn't have met such a fate. Unfortunately, there's no going back in the world, and an Eighth-Level Mage died with a heart full of regret.
"Phew! This thing is really useful..."
Sigri blew on the gun barrel, sighing with genuine emotion.
Although he used this unexpected method to successfully kill the Eighth-Level Mage, it had to be said that the power of these weapons was indeed not to be underestimated.
The other group of Soldiers, who had been watching the entire battle from the side, were now so scared they couldn't stand, collapsing to the ground one by one.
Who would have thought that in just a few minutes, the entire square would become like a living hell, with severed limbs everywhere and rivers of blood, and even the powerful Eighth-Level Mage personally died at Sigri's hands.
"Don't worry, since you are loyal to me, I certainly won't take your lives."
Hearing Sigri say this, the remaining Soldiers tremblingly stood up and immediately scrambled to express their loyalty to Sigri.
"Enough with the idle talk. There's an opportunity to prove your loyalty right now..."
"Please command, City Lord! We will do our best to accomplish it!"
The Soldiers nodded repeatedly, pledging solemnly that they would do whatever was asked without hesitation.
"It's very simple. Just eliminate all the major families in the city. Don't worry, they will help."
Sigri raised his hand and pointed to the company of Soldiers by the square.
Looking at those company of Soldiers, the Soldiers couldn't help but swallow nervously, their eyes filled with fear.
After all, those terrifying weapons that could easily take lives in the blink of an eye had just been fired from their hands... Under the combined purge of the Soldiers and the company of Soldiers, none of the major families in Border City were spared. All were brutally massacred.
Let alone a single survivor, even their pets were killed off completely. Earthworms had to be dug out and split in half, and eggs had to be scrambled.
In such a short time, the entire Border City was completely under Sigri's control.
Upon learning this surprising news, Andegu, far away in the camp, was overjoyed. He immediately assembled his troops and marched non-stop overnight to Border City.
He had originally planned to gradually weaken Border City's defenses to make the attack easier tomorrow morning. Who would have thought that Sigri would exceed expectations, and the entire Border City would be taken down ahead of schedule.
Since the situation was so favorable, what was there to wait for? The troops would directly station themselves in Border City, and at dawn tomorrow, they would depart from Border City and advance towards the target city where Captain Li Yang was located.
Captain Li Yang, upon receiving the message from Andegu, was also surprised and delighted.
He hadn't expected to occupy Border City so easily without alarming the Magical Beast Empire.
But this was even better. This way, the time for the vanguard to arrive here tomorrow would be greatly shortened.
