62: The power of missiles
"Sister, what is that thing?"
Among the Forest Empire's troops, a delicate and lovely Elf girl tightly tugged on her sister's sleeve, pointing to the sky with a face full of questions.
"This is... Everyone, quickly take cover!"
The Elf woman, called 'sister,' looked in the direction her younger sister was pointing, only to see several black dots with long contrails in the sky, like death-bringing demons, rapidly approaching their location.
Although she had no idea what those objects were, a strong intuition screamed a warning, telling her that this was an extremely dangerous presence, a great danger that could threaten their lives.
Hearing this urgent shout, the entire Forest Empire's contingent instantly fell into a panic. Everyone scattered and fled, but the massive destructive range of the missiles meant that they couldn't easily outrun them on foot.
With a few thunderous roars, several missiles landed accurately within the long line of troops. In an instant, flames shot skyward, and explosions reverberated through the clouds.
As the missiles exploded with a deafening roar, it was as if the apocalypse had suddenly arrived. Giant, scorching fireballs, like ferocious beasts, roared and shot into the sky, mercilessly devouring everything around them in an instant.
Intensely high temperatures, accompanied by a violent, rampant shockwave, swept outwards in all directions from the explosion's core like a surging tide.
In the fiercely burning flames, the Elves' figures were instantly engulfed by the rolling inferno. The once tall and sturdy trees violently combusted under the extreme heat, emitting crackling, ear-splitting sounds, then immediately turned into dust and ashes filling the sky.
Billowing thick smoke surged upwards, covering the sky and completely obscuring it. The entire forest seemed to instantly plunge into a terrifying abyss of hell.
In the core area of the explosion, the unfortunate Elves instantly vanished into nothingness, without leaving even the slightest trace of their existence.
Elves who were slightly further away had their bodies torn to pieces by the immensely powerful explosion, with severed limbs scattered haphazardly across the ground. Their beautiful pointed ears were scorched by the raging fire, their once delicate faces covered in blood and dust, and their eyes, once full of life and vitality, now held only endless emptiness and deep despair.
The injured Elves let out agonizing, piercing wails, a sound that seemed so tragic and helpless amidst the pervasive smoke.
Some Elves tried to rescue their injured companions, but the fierce fire and continuously collapsing trees around them made their efforts extremely difficult.
The once orderly contingent had now become utterly chaotic, with fear and despair like a heavy pall, tightly enveloping every single person.
The massive fire triggered by the explosion rapidly spread, forming a raging sea of flames. Those Elves who had miraculously survived the explosion struggled desperately for survival within this fiery inferno.
Their clothes and hair caught fire, their delicate skin was severely burned, and the air was filled with nauseating scorched smells and a strong, pungent scent of blood. This once tranquil, peaceful, and vibrant forest had now become a gruesome, living hell.
Far away in the camp, Andegu's gaze was fixed on the clear images transmitted by the satellite, and he nodded with satisfaction.
"It seems we can still save two medium-range missiles..."
The missile attack this time was quite effective, successfully destroying the vital forces of the Forest Empire's support troops.
If this attack had not been satisfactory, Andegu had already planned to continue launching missiles until the Forest Empire's troops were completely incapacitated.
Meanwhile, in the forest that had been heavily bombarded by missiles, those Elves who had miraculously survived and managed to escape the terrifying sea of fire quickly and frantically gathered together.
"...Is this a divine punishment?"
An Elf who had barely escaped with her life stared blankly at the boundless sea of flames still raging behind her, her face numb, muttering to herself as if she had lost her soul.
After enduring the cruel baptism of the missiles, the Forest Empire's support troops were completely deprived of their combat capability.
Now, with only the Beast King Empire's support troops remaining, the operation to occupy the Magical Beast Empire's capital could essentially be considered a walk in the park... On the outskirts of the Adi Forest, the area had now been transformed into an impregnable defensive line by the Blue Star Troops. Various machine gun and artillery bunkers stood like colossal steel beasts, and towering watchtowers had also risen from the ground.
"Who's there?"
A sharp-eyed Guard instantly spotted a tall, skinny, shadowy figure lurking in the bushes, and immediately raised his gun, aiming precisely at the target.
At the Guard's shout, other Guards rushed over. Simultaneously, bright searchlights on the watchtowers were turned on, their powerful beams shining into the bushes.
"Don't shoot... I am a Messenger from the Chaos Empire, and I have come to deliver a letter by order of our King..."
Under the aim of so many weapons, a Messenger from the Chaos Empire trembled all over, slowly and shakily emerging from the bushes, his hands raised high, a conspicuous envelope held in them.
"A letter?"
Hearing this, the Guards exchanged glances. After carefully confirming there was no potential danger nearby, one Guard cautiously and slowly approached the Messenger.
"Be honest! Lie on the ground and raise your hands!"
The other Guards shouted loudly from all around.
Upon hearing this, the Messenger dared not disobey in the slightest, immediately cooperating obediently, quickly lying on the ground, and raising his hands high.
Seeing the Messenger cooperate so honestly, the Guard finally relaxed slightly, quickly stepped forward, snatched the envelope from his hand, and then swiftly pulled out handcuffs, skillfully cuffing his hands. Seeing this, the other Guards quickly gathered around.
"Come on, take him back to the camp!"
The Guards spoke in serious tones, tightly gripping the Messenger's arm, and escorted him towards the camp.
