15: Chapter 15: Angel Campus (Fifteen)
As the eerie laughter echoed, night suddenly descended.
Qian Ye had been keeping a close eye on that NPC, and she saw him drag Lin Yu and disappear into the night.
She hugged her flower pot, opened her little red umbrella, and followed closely behind.
"What happened?" Mo Lan felt a chill in her heart the moment night fell.
Tai Feng looked toward where Qian Ye had been, but it was already empty.
Zhan Hao looked up; the air was filled with churning black mist.
"Ah, what is that?"
"So disgusting."
Mo Lan's exclamation instantly drew the attention of those around her.
By the faint light, Zhan Hao saw what Mo Lan was talking about.
Beneath the night sky, countless ghosts emerged—clumps of black mist that, upon closer inspection, were covered in countless eyes.
Anyone with trypophobia would feel sick just looking at them.
"Give me your eyes~"
"Eyes."
"Delicious."
Tai Feng frowned, "So that's where the students' eyes went."
"There are more and more of them." Mo Lan took out her weapon as those multi-eyed ghosts kept closing in, moving in various bizarre, crawling postures.
They left trails of viscous liquid behind them.
"What are you standing there for? Fight!"
Tai Feng looked at the dazed Mo Lan and pulled her aside just before a multi-eyed ghost could touch her.
"Ah~ right, sorry, I was just so disgusted." Mo Lan suppressed her nausea and began hacking wildly with her axe.
"Your weapon might be a bit rustic, but it's actually quite handy."
Zhan Hao stared at the axe in Mo Lan's hand, watching her hack away quite leisurely.
"Hmph, of course it is." This axe was something the Big Boss had snatched from a Vicious Ghost, after all.
"By the way, what exactly is going on here?"
Night fell suddenly, and so many ghosts appeared.
Zhan Hao shook his head while fighting, "I, I don't know." He was also confused.
"Eyes, I want eyes."
"Damn, there are more of them the more we fight."
"Damn it, their whole bodies are nothing but eyes, and they still want more." Tai Feng was also annoyed.
These things weren't strong, but there were just too many of them.
They were truly disgusting.
Being stared at by so many eyes made one's scalp tingle and goosebumps rise all over.
The three of them stood back-to-back to prevent a sneak attack from behind.
All around were traces of them crawling; everywhere was slime, accompanied by a foul, nauseating stench.
"Just how many more are there?" A single ghost had so many eyes—how many people had they killed?
"Huff, huff, huff... are we, are we going to die here?" Mo Lan panted while holding her axe.
She could barely hack anymore; there were just too many.
Sob, sob, sob, she missed the Big Boss. Where did the Big Boss go?
Just as she was thinking this, her ears twitched. She looked into the distance, and her eyes suddenly widened.
"God, another, another wave of ghosts is coming." Mo Lan's voice trembled.
Help, there really is no escaping this time.
She was filled with despair from head to toe.
This game didn't want them to clear the level at all; it just wanted them dead.
"What's coming is hope." Tai Feng's tone held a hint of lightness.
As they got closer, he could see clearly: the Big Boss was running in front, and the ghosts were chasing her.
Tai Feng's mouth twitched.
Where did she go to provoke another batch of ghosts?
Only when they arrived did they see clearly that it was actually those students who had lost their eyes.
Qian Ye, having poked multi-eyed ghosts all the way there, arrived at the center.
She tapped the ground with the tip of her umbrella, "Hey, students, haven't you realized you're missing something?"
"Look, the ghosts in front of you—they're all covered in your eyes!"
Qian Ye's words left those ghosts bewildered.
"Heh heh heh, ey, eyes?"
"Eyes?"
Qian Ye kindly plucked two eyes from a multi-eyed ghost and placed them into her eye sockets.
She even kindly provided a mirror so she could see what she looked like.
"Ah, no, this isn't me."
"Eyes."
"These aren't my eyes."
"Where are my eyes?"
"See? Your eyes are right there on the multi-eyed ghosts in front of you."
"Take a look, do these eyes look familiar?"
Qian Ye linked arms with the NPC, looking like they were best friends, appearing as if she were completely devoted to helping her.
She earnestly persuaded them, and the students, bewitched by Qian Ye, charged toward the multi-eyed ghosts.
Qian Ye, watching the show from the side, clenched her fist, "Go, sisters, you can do it!"
After finishing all this, Qian Ye straightened her slightly messy skirt; yes, she would hide her merits and fame.
Watching the ghosts fighting in front of her, Mo Lan's mouth hung open; her understanding of the Big Boss had been refreshed yet again.
So you could trick them like this—ahem, no, make friends with ghosts.
"While they're fighting and have no time to pay attention to us, let's leave quickly."
Zhan Hao reminded them.
Qian Ye hugged the flower pot; the little green sprout had grown taller, no longer the same little green sprout it once was, having grown a few more thin leaves.
At this moment, listening to the roaring on the playground, the green leaves swayed, clearly in a great mood.
Qian Ye looked down at its excited state and poked it, "You better bloom quickly."
Just like that, she held it and watched the two sides fight with great interest.
Tai Feng and the others hadn't gone far from the playground when, unexpectedly, another wave of ghosts came toward them.
"Give me back my head!"
"Give me back my head." The voices came from all directions.
"Is tonight ever going to end?"
The ghosts seemed to have heard the commotion and were striding toward Zhan Hao's side.
Tai Feng looked around; headless ghosts were wandering everywhere on campus.
Looking closely, their bodies were wrapped in a layer of black mist, and above their necks, it was empty—a bloody sight that assaulted Mo Lan's vision.
Having just put his weapon away, Tai Feng was forced to take it out again upon seeing so many ghosts.
His weapon was an ice sword that could extend and retract; it was a reward he had received for clearing his second dungeon.
Stabbing it into a ghost would freeze them for three seconds.
Tai Feng struck with his sword, but those headless ghosts continued to move freely.
Instead, it just provoked them further, and they attacked him.
"..."
"These headless ghosts can't be killed in one hit."
Mo Lan had also realized this; her axe strikes felt like she was just scratching them.
"Be careful, these ghosts are on a different level than the ones on the playground."
Mo Lan made a crying face as she struggled to hack down a headless ghost.
She had finally been saved by the Big Boss, only to run into upgraded ghosts.
As they were struggling to deal with these ghosts, the headless ghosts suddenly paused for a moment, and the next second, they all gathered in one direction.
"What's going on?" Mo Lan withdrew her axe and looked in the direction the headless ghosts were leaving—it was right toward the playground.
"Oh no, the Big Boss is still on the playground." Mo Lan grabbed her axe and rushed toward the playground.
The Big Boss had saved her so many times; although she couldn't do much to help, she couldn't leave the Big Boss alone to face so many ghosts.
Tai Feng hesitated for a moment, then followed as well.
It wasn't just because she had kindly reminded him before; he felt that his chances of clearing the level were higher if he followed her.
"Sigh, this is crazy." Zhan Hao gritted his teeth; they had finally managed to escape.
He had no choice but to follow; he couldn't guarantee he could make it through safely on his own.
On the playground, Qian Ye wandered among the ghosts, occasionally inciting them or pulling off a sneak attack, successfully making both sides fight even more intensely.
She quietly retreated to the side, hugging her flower pot, and contentedly collected fertilizer.
The green leaves in her arms swayed happily.
Qian Ye looked at it, thinking that if it could talk, it would definitely sing a song.
