238: Chapter 238: Testing the Gods (Part Fourteen)
A black mist surged around the dark figure, writhing as if it were alive.
Suddenly, several black tentacles reached out from the black mist, spreading rapidly into the surroundings.
The nearby walls looked as if they were being eroded by darkness, instantly becoming mottled and grotesque.
"I truly underestimated you all."
In an instant, those tentacles lunged toward Meng Yu and the others.
"Next, the Venerable One's target is me."
The dark figure charged straight at Qian Ye.
Red threads were conjured from Qian Ye's hand; they didn't just emit a red glow, but also contained a trace of Golden Power.
"Master, Master, you cannot use this power anymore."
Qian Ye was not one to be easily persuaded; the red threads crashed directly into the black mist.
Just as the red threads were about to touch the black mist, the mist suddenly retracted, transforming into a black shield that blocked the dark figure's front.
The black lines and red threads collided, emitting a blinding light, accompanied by a wave of intense energy that rippled outward.
Meng Yu and the others hurried to defend themselves, yet they were still shaken back several steps.
"Hmph, you think you can trap me with just this little skill?" The dark figure sneered, his hands forming seals as he chanted under his breath.
The black mist changed shape again, turning into countless sharp arrows that shot toward everyone.
With a flick of his hand, Qian Ye's red threads quickly split into countless fine lines, weaving a giant net in an attempt to intercept the arrows.
However, some of the arrows broke through the defense and were about to hit Meng Yu.
At the critical moment, a burst of blue light erupted from Meng Yu's body, dissolving all the arrows.
The dark figure was momentarily stunned. Seizing this opening, Qian Ye suddenly increased his Golden Power, smashing through the black mist shield and lunging straight for the figure.
"Does the Venerable One really want to watch those humans die one by one?"
In an instant, the red threads heading toward him all retracted.
...
"Heh, this is the first time I've known the Venerable One to be such a man of great compassion."
Leaving behind those words, the dark figure vanished.
"Dammit, just a little more."
Beside her, Meng Yu gritted her teeth, the blue light on her body yet to dissipate.
Only then did she remember. "Bigshot, the power in my body..."
She didn't know what had happened; this unfamiliar power had just suddenly erupted.
"Naturally, it is your own."
Qian Ye gave her a meaningful look, offering no direct explanation.
"Bigshot, why did that dark figure call you Ven... Venerable One?"
Was it a title unique to this place?
Qian Ye didn't answer Meng Yu. Instead, he looked up toward where the dark figure had vanished and said thoughtfully, "It will come again."
Meng Yu's heart was full of doubts, but she knew now was not the time to press for answers.
Meng Yu tried once more to mobilize the Blue Power within her, but no matter how hard she tried, the power remained still.
Just as she was struggling, Qian Ye said, "This power is not something you can easily control."
Meng Yu turned around and asked urgently, "Then what exactly is that power? And who exactly are you?"
Qian Ye fell silent for a moment before slowly saying, "Actually, I am not human." Meng Yu's eyes widened; just as she was about to speak, a commotion suddenly broke out outside.
The two exchanged a look, and Meng Yu rushed out to investigate.
Many Black Runes appeared in the sky, flickering with an eerie light.
"What is this now?"
Meng Yu muttered to herself.
"Dammit, those people are never-ending."
"Unless they kill me, they will not rest."
Qian Ye's face was tense and expressionless, but Meng Yu, who was beside him, was surprised.
It was rare to see the Bigshot with such a serious expression.
"Bigshot, look, what is that mist mixed with black and white?"
Tai You pointed at the mist that was continuously drifting upward.
"That is Soul Power."
"It is the souls of everyone in this city."
Instantly, the surroundings became dead silent.
