19: Chapter 19: Angel Campus (Nineteen)
Tai Feng woke up, his eyes still covered by a blindfold, and everything before him was pitch black.
He removed the blindfold, but it remained pitch black.
"Is anyone there?"
"Waa, sob, sob... You, you're finally awake." Feeling the movement beside her, Mo Lan felt as if she had found her backbone.
It was too dark; the two of them couldn't even see where they were.
Tai Feng was silent for a moment, then asked, "Where are you?"
"I'll come find you."
"I, I don't know either. It's, it's too dark, and I'm scared." In the darkness, Mo Lan clutched the flower in her arms tightly, eyes closed, not daring to open them.
Her philosophy was that as long as she didn't open her eyes, nothing could scare her.
"..."
"Then don't move around. Just keep talking, and I'll find you." Women really were troublesome, Tai Feng muttered to himself, not stopping his movements.
"We, we were taken away by the Infirmary doctor we ran into."
"I feel like he left after locking us in a room."
"I, I didn't dare take off the blindfold, so I just kept waiting for you to wake up."
"..." This wasn't the same person who had held an axe to look at the ghosts.
Mo Lan kept talking, and Tai Feng listened to locate her position.
"Who, who is patting me?"
"Tai Feng?"
Tai Feng's hands were empty; he hadn't touched anything, let alone patted her.
"... I'm still looking for your position."
"I didn't touch you." As soon as Tai Feng finished that sentence, the hairs on Mo Lan's body stood on end.
"You, don't scare, scare me..." Mo Lan was on the verge of tears.
"Hee hee~"
"Whoo~"
With a "bang," Mo Lan stood up abruptly.
"Ahhh, there, there's something laughing."
"And, and it's blowing into my ear."
Tai Feng was silent this time too. He had heard it as well.
"Hee hee~"
"You're such a coward~"
"Come play with me~"
"Nan Nan is so bored~"
Mo Lan swallowed hard, remaining motionless and not daring to make a sound.
Since she wasn't speaking, Tai Feng couldn't determine her location for the moment.
"Uncle~ Will you play with me? Please~"
"Come play with me~"
The voice sounded childish, like that of a young child. But the fact that it couldn't be seen or touched sent a chill down one's spine.
"Shall we play hide-and-seek?~"
"Nan Nan loves hide-and-seek the most~"
"If you find me within an hour, there's a reward~"
"Otherwise, if you don't find Nan Nan, you'll be punished~"
"Hee hee~"
"Come find me."
The Little Girl's voice grew more and more distant. Immediately, the entire room suddenly lit up with a faint light.
Tai Feng quickly searched for Mo Lan's figure, seeing that there seemed to be a shadow behind her that was taller than she was.
"Mo Lan, watch out behind you!"
"Dodge quickly!"
"Keh—keh—keh."
"You—found—me." The voice was raspy, like an elderly person at the end of their life struggling to speak.
"Hah—hah—hah."
Suddenly, sounds came from all around, and in an instant, the two were completely surrounded.
"..." All around them were faceless black shadows, just like human shadows.
Mo Lan stepped forward, and those shadows imitated her movements, moving forward collectively.
Mo Lan took out her axe with her left hand and aimed it at them, but the next second, she was shocked and took a step back.
The group of shadows also manifested pure black axes in their left hands, aiming them at her.
"Tai, Tai Feng, what should we do?" She didn't dare to move at all, staring at the axes hanging over her head, truly afraid that if she moved, they would fall onto her.
"These look like our shadows."
Tai Feng reached out to touch the ghost in front of him, but his hand passed straight through. The ghost performed the same action, but instead, it landed a punch directly on Tai Feng. He let out a muffled grunt.
They couldn't touch the ghosts, but they could be attacked by them.
"Keh—keh—keh." The next second, it continued to attack Tai Feng, its manifested fingers forming claws, charging straight at him. He quickly dodged to the side.
He then looked around, finally fixing his gaze on those faint lights.
"Dare to make a bet?" Under the faint light, Tai Feng stood with his back to the light, his face serious, and with the scar on his left eye, he looked exceptionally fierce.
Mo Lan... Was he threatening her?
"Dare? I dare!" Sob, looking at his face, she had to dare even if she didn't want to.
Tai Feng didn't know that his overly fierce face had been mistaken for a threat. Hearing her answer, he gave her an appreciative look; she was quite decisive.
Mo Lan huddled to one side, not daring to move.
"I suspect their appearance has to do with these lights."
"Assuming they are Shadow Ghosts, they can only exist if there is light. If we extinguish the lights, then it's possible..."
"They will disappear?" Mo Lan finished his sentence.
Tai Feng nodded. That was the only option for now. They couldn't touch the ghosts and could only take a beating.
"Alright." They had to give it their all.
Both of them focused their attention on the lights. They frowned simultaneously and exchanged a glance; they hadn't discovered where the light source was. These lights seemed to have appeared out of thin air.
"Hee hee~"
"You're so stupid~"
"Why don't you just stay here with them~"
As soon as these words fell, the Shadow Ghosts, as if receiving an order, all gathered around the two.
"Hah—hah—hah."
As they moved, Tai Feng clearly saw that a few ghost shadows in the last row didn't move. Their posture seemed to be protecting something.
Tai Feng's eyes sharpened. "Found it." A light sword appeared in his hand. Enduring the pain in his body, he rushed straight to the back. "Freeze."
"Shatter."
With a "bang," the light and shadow shattered, and they were instantly plunged into darkness again. The air stagnated, and the surroundings were silent.
"Is, is it gone?" Mo Lan asked cautiously.
"What a pity~" The Little Girl's voice was full of regret.
"Hmph, count yourselves lucky this time."
"Next, good luck to you."
After speaking, Tai Feng's head suddenly swam for a moment. The scene shifted.
— — On the other side, Qian Ye kept walking forward in pitch darkness, with a light at the very front.
"Big Sister, should we keep walking forward?"
"Yes."
Qian Ye's hand felt icy. She lowered her head to meet that broken face.
"I'll hold Big Sister's hand, so Big Sister won't be scared~"
Qian Ye smiled slightly and let her pull her forward.
She couldn't see anything around her, only endless darkness. The human and the ghost walked quietly toward that single point of light.
She didn't know how long they had walked when suddenly, the light rushed toward them, stinging Qian Ye's eyes so she couldn't keep them open.
When she opened her eyes again, it was no longer pitch black before her. What met her eyes was a dilapidated gate.
Qian Ye looked up. At the very top of the gate, it was written: Angel Orphanage.
"Angel Orphanage..." Nan Nan, who was beside her, looked up at the plaque. Why did she feel it was so familiar?
She searched her memories, but couldn't think of anything.
"So familiar. So familiar." Nan Nan muttered to herself.
Hearing her words, Qian Ye's eyebrows twitched slightly.
The gate was slightly ajar; with a gentle push, it opened. She continued walking inside.
"Idiot, idiot, hahaha, big idiot."
She saw a group of children gathered in a circle in a corner.
Qian Ye walked over, as if to confirm something, and reached out her hand, but it passed straight through the child's body. The other party seemed not to notice.
"So that's how it is." Qian Ye muttered to herself. Nan Nan tilted her head, looking at her in confusion.
Qian Ye's attention was entirely on the group of children in front of her.
