37: Chapter 37: The Mystery of the Old House (Part 11)

Qian Ye had no idea that the White Cat ghost in her hands had mistaken her for one of its own kind, and its guard had diminished somewhat.

The White Cat was convinced that the woman before it definitely wasn't human either.

Just like that, a faint sense of kinship sprouted for her.

It stopped struggling blindly as well.

Qian Ye didn't know what it was imagining, but looking at the army of skeletons crawling in various poses, she was speechless. After passing through who knows how many corridors, the skeleton army finally stopped.

The sound of the suona began again, a ceaseless, rhythmic tooting.

Listening to the sound of the suona, those skeletons became agitated and restless, struggling on the ground with a "click-clack-click" sound.

Before long, Qian Ye witnessed a scene of living people appearing out of thin air.

The skeleton army on the ground had already vanished, replaced by individual "people."

Qian Ye even saw several familiar figures among them.

Those "people" seemed unable to see the red sedan chair before them; with hollow eyes, they dispersed in all directions like marionettes.

The suona grew louder and louder, the drums thundering to the heavens.

The red-robed paper figures at the four corners carried the bridal sedan chair and stopped at a residence.

"The auspicious hour is approaching, Bride, please enter the sedan chair."

"The auspicious hour is approaching, Bride, please enter the sedan chair."

"..."

Four times in succession, and as the voices faded, those paper figures set down the bridal sedan chair, circled it, and danced an unknown dance.

Qian Ye walked inside, looked up, and saw that talisman seals were posted everywhere above the residence.

Is this the reason why the bridal sedan chair wouldn't enter?

Staring at those talisman seals, a glint of malice flashed in Qian Ye's eyes. Her lips curled upward, and her hand slowly reached toward the seals.

She wanted to be a good person!

How could she leave a Guest locked outside? Not good, not good at all.

Qian Ye glanced at the red-robed paper figures still dancing and walked inside, grinning.

Qian Ye discovered that there were many bamboo stalks here as well, with green bamboo planted along both sides of the road.

Walking further in, she saw an ancestral hall not far away.

Qian Ye quietly entered the ancestral hall, where memorial tablets of various sizes were arranged from high to low.

Two candles were lit at each memorial tablet.

A little further inside, there was the figure of Angelica, pacing back and forth.

"It, it's here!"

"It's here!"

"Desolate Wind, what should we do!" Angelica grabbed Desolate Wind's arm, her eyes full of despair.

"Today is the first day; within seven days, we must offer a sacrifice to it."

"Why?"

"Why must it be me?" Angelica collapsed onto the floor, her face filled with unwillingness.

"Hmph, and you still dare to mention it..." A cold snort came from the darkness.

"Father, Father." Angelica's body trembled.

Qian Ye saw that the person coming from the darkness was indeed the Uncle Bai that Desolate Wind had mentioned.

At this moment, he was leaning on a cane, looking at Angelica with disappointment.

He turned his head to look at Desolate Wind, "Young Master, I presume you understand now."

"Cannot escape..."

"Cannot escape..."

"Uncle Bai, I'm sorry, it's all my fault..." Desolate Wind held Angelica in his arms, his face full of apology.

"Sigh..." With a sigh, Uncle Bai bowed several times toward the memorial tablets.

"If you hadn't privately pledged your lives to each other back then, how could such a great disaster have been brought about?"

Whenever Uncle Bai thought of what happened a few years ago, his heart ached.

Angelica's face turned pale.

"I, I didn't know it was this serious."

"Uncle Bai, it's all my fault."

Qian Ye listened for a long time, but they had talked for ages without getting to the point; she was getting impatient listening to them.

Coaxing Little Flower to remove the protective barrier, a living person suddenly appeared before the three of them.

"Su Ye!" Angelica's pupils constricted; she was actually still alive!

Uncle Bai, who was to the side, heard the commotion. His face turned toward Qian Ye; although he could see nothing, he instinctively knew exactly where Qian Ye was.

"Hee hee~ Are you surprised to see me!" Qian Ye grinned, tilted her head, and smiled with malicious intent.

"You're actually still alive!" Desolate Wind shielded Angelica behind him, staring at her intensely.

"No, I'm already dead." Qian Ye spouted nonsense with a straight face.

The people opposite her looked grim. Hearing her words, they immediately and decisively retorted, "Impossible!"

Dead? People sucked in by the tentacles would have even their souls devoured; it was impossible for them to turn into a ghost.

"Hee hee hee, it seems you understand very well."

"I am truly curious about the story of your Ancient Mansion." Qian Ye stared at the memorial tablets with a smile.

"Heh." Uncle Bai, who was to the side, sneered. Following his cold snort, an eerie wind instantly rose in the ancestral hall, and those candles, caught in the wind, gradually turned into ghostly green flames.

The entire ancestral hall was made to look gloomy and terrifying.

"Such... an impolite... Guest, the Jin Residence does not welcome."

Jin Residence! Ember Stain! Qian Ye raised an eyebrow; she had heard it clearly. He hadn't said Qin Residence, but Jin Residence.

Interesting, interesting. She had originally wanted to ask some questions, but now, she suddenly wanted to change her mind.

The Uncle Bai before her didn't give her time to think further; several green vines grew all over his body and lashed directly at her.

Qian Ye dodged, though those vines didn't forget to protect the memorial tablets and those two NPCs.

"Hee hee hee~ I'm not playing with you~"

As the words fell, a bridal sedan chair appeared behind her, and the smiles on the faces of those four red-robed paper figures became even more eerie.

Seeing that bridal sedan chair, Desolate Wind's expression changed drastically. "How did they get in!" There was clearly... at the entrance.

Desolate Wind's gaze shot toward Qian Yeβ€”it was her! "Su Ye!" "You are courting death!"

In an instant, Desolate Wind's face became distorted; his originally delicate features vanished, his skin split open, revealing a dark green hue. He opened his giant mouth, and a forked tongue shot out violently, attacking toward Qian Ye.

Qian Ye summoned her hong ling umbrella, wielding it with such might that the two of them combined couldn't even touch a hair on her.

"Hee hee hee~" "Being angry is good for your health!"

Qian Ye held up the hong ling umbrella and flashed in front of the red-robed paper figures, covering her mouth and giggling, "You really must thank me~" "Here, the Bride you need~"

The red-robed paper figures tilted their heads, swaying back and forth. Instantly, the sound of the suona rose.

"The auspicious hour has arrived, Bride and Groom, please enter the sedan chair!"

"The auspicious hour has arrived, Bride and Groom, please enter the sedan chair!"

"..."

Three more times in succession, each voice louder than the last. After every call, the bridal sedan chair drew closer to the ancestral hall.

With the final call, the bridal sedan chair appeared directly inside the ancestral hall.

Desolate Wind and Uncle Bai instantly shielded Angelica behind them. For a moment, an eerie wind raged throughout the entire ancestral hall, with vines and crimson tongues dancing and intertwining.

They were trying to block the bridal sedan chair from advancing any further.

Angelica's eyes were filled with terror, and she kept retreating backward.

The bridal sedan chair opened on its own, revealing the magnificent bridal attire inside.

"Don't look!" came a shout, but it was already too late.

Angelica stared at the magnificent wedding dress inside, unable to look away.

"Beautiful! So beautiful!" "I want it!"

The ghosts and monsters on the scene had no time to pay attention to Qian Ye. She traveled smoothly to the side of the bridal sedan chair and saw the bridal attire inside.

Staring at it, a distant female voice reached her ears, "Put it on! Put it on! You will be the most beautiful."

"Come quickly, your husband... is waiting for you..."

Amidst the enticements, Qian Ye's expression remained clear. She turned her head and saw that Angelica was already frantically trying to break free from the vines blocking her, holding a wood-chopping knife and hacking in front of her, her eyes fixed unblinkingly on the wedding dress inside the bridal sedan chair.

"Let me go! Let me go!" "I'm getting married!" "I'm going to marry Desolate Wind!"

"Heh heh heh~" Caught in who knows what kind of illusion, Angelica smiled with a look of sweetness.
