10: Spy Linlin
On the way to being captured, they had been shocked by the massive structures in the base. They were far larger than the buildings in Riquan City. Moreover, these structures had been built in such a short time, along with the strange armies and weapons. All of this proved that Wei He was no simple man. Now, Wei He’s hospitable demeanor left them utterly confused, unsure of what he had up his sleeve.
“I don’t think we have anything to talk about!” Linlin said, her face a mix of disgust and rage as she glared fiercely at Wei He. “You’re a rapist; you’re not fit to speak to me. I despise men like you the most!”
Wei He was momentarily speechless. Even though he had been framed, any explanation at this point would be futile.
“It seems we’ll have to change our method of communication.” Wei He had an indifferent expression, which only infuriated Linlin further. However, since she was currently the meat on the cutting board while he was the cleaver, she could only glare at Wei He, wondering what he meant and what wicked scheme he was plotting.
After Wei He spoke, the bald man behind him stepped in front of the White-Robed Man. This man was Yuri. He looked calmly at the White-Robed Man, and in an instant, the latter was under Yuri’s control. The White-Robed Man’s strength was too poor; for Yuri, controlling him required no effort at all.
In Wei He’s eyes, thanks to the enhancement of the red alert system, he could clearly see a red line connecting Yuri and the White-Robed Man. This indicated that the White-Robed Man was now controlled by Yuri. Although Yuri didn’t speak, the two of them understood each other perfectly.
This scene left Linlin, who was standing nearby, dazed. She looked at the White-Robed Man in confusion and then at the smirk on Wei He’s face, unsure of what had happened.
“Hey, what is this creepy guy doing? You’re hanging out with a rapist like Aaron, so you can’t be anything good either. Why are you staring at him? Are you some kind of pervert, or do you like men?!” Linlin naturally didn’t know that her companion was now Wei He’s man, loyal only to him. This was all thanks to the creepy guy, Yuri, she was insulting.
Yuri ignored her and walked straight back behind Wei He, a faint smile on his face as if he hadn't heard a word she said.
“My name isn’t Aaron, it’s Wei He. And I’m not a rapist. I know it sounds unbelievable, but I’m really not!” Wei He said helplessly. “I transmigrated from another world and just happened to end up in his body!”
“Save that kind of talk for a three-year-old. You’re saying you transmigrated into a rapist’s body?” Linlin’s large, blinking eyes were full of skepticism.
“No, Aaron wasn’t a rapist either... forget it, I can’t explain it to you!” Seeing that he couldn't clear things up, Wei He didn't bother with her further. He simply told her to stop calling him Aaron since he had his own name, then turned to question the White-Robed Man.
Watching the Q&A between Wei He and the White-Robed Man, Linlin was completely shocked. Was this still the powerful Captain she knew? For a moment, she even doubted her own eyes, wondering if she was hallucinating.
“What are you doing? Captain, did you really betray the General so easily?” Linlin asked in disbelief.
“I am loyal only to the Commander. I don’t know what you are talking about,” the White-Robed Man said emotionlessly, word by word, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
“Fine! I misjudged you. You’re just a spineless coward, a traitor!” Linlin didn't know that the White-Robed Man was currently under mind control, and she cursed him viciously.
Wei He now knew that General Charlie had recovered from his injuries over the past three months. Upon learning that many strange people and objects had appeared near Sentry Mountain, Charlie hadn't attacked blindly. Instead, he had contacted several mage friends to assist him and sent out even more scouts to gather intelligence on Wei He’s base in preparation for an invasion.
However, Charlie hadn't reported the events in Riquan City to the Imperial Court. This left Wei He a bit puzzled, unsure of what kind of conspiracy Charlie was brewing.
It was precisely because Charlie hadn't reported the prison break and the killing of soldiers that Wei He had the time and opportunity to develop.
At this time, Charlie was in Riquan City, diligently practicing magic. Only he knew that the battle at Sentry Mountain was the most pathetic and humiliating experience he had faced since he began studying magic. He felt his dignity had been trampled. He was determined to make Wei He pay. If His Majesty the King and the Grand Duke found out and stepped in to wipe out Wei He, how could he get his revenge? Moreover, doing so would make him look like a useless waste in their eyes. Therefore, he had to finish Wei He with his own hands.
What he didn't know was that after the battle at Sentry Mountain, Wei He had been developing desperately. Now, within the Red Alert Base, there were hundreds of thousands of standard troops, along with many advanced units like Yuri and Chrono Legionnaires, not to mention thousands of armored vehicles of various models.
Wei He was now more than capable of dealing with General Charlie. What he truly feared was the entire Magic Empire behind the General. The Empire’s strength was not to be underestimated; at the very least, it was more than the current Wei He could match. Through Aaron’s memories, Wei He knew that the strength of His Majesty the King and the Grand Duke was terrifyingly powerful, possessing destructive force no weaker than Superweapons.
“In a moment, you will return to Riquan City and tell Charlie about the situation here...!” Wei He said to the White-Robed Man.
“As you command, Commander!” the White-Robed Man replied respectfully. Linlin, who was already tired from shouting, still said fiercely, “You want me to risk my life for you? Fat chance! Hmph!”
“I think you might have misunderstood. When I said 'you,' I didn't include you!” Wei He looked at Linlin with a playful expression.
On the other side of the hall, a large door slowly pushed open. A man wearing a black suit and black sunglasses, looking like an agent from a Spy movie, walked out. His hair was neat, his steps light and agile, and he carried no obvious weapons. Overall, he gave off the image of a mysterious, professional secret agent.
This was a special advanced unit from red alert—the Spy. When performing a disguise mission, he could take the form of enemy infantry to blend into their ranks.
When Wei He played the game on Earth, he often saw Rocket Troopers and Chrono Legionnaires walking on the ground; he knew those were enemy spies in disguise.
In the game, Spies could also infiltrate enemy buildings. For example, entering an Air Force Command or Radar would reset the enemy's fog of war; entering a Barracks would make one's own infantry start at veteran level; entering a War Factory would make one's vehicles start at veteran level; entering a Power Plant would cut the enemy's power for 1 minute and 5 seconds; entering an Ore Refinery would steal half of the enemy's funds; entering a Superweapon would reset its countdown; and entering a Battle Lab could unlock different units like the Chrono Commando, Chrono Ivan, Psi Commando, and Yuri Prime.
The Spy walked unhurriedly toward Wei He and greeted him politely. Then, under Wei He’s command, the Spy disguised himself as Linlin.
In Wei He’s eyes, the disguised Spy would occasionally flicker between the forms of the Spy and Linlin. One moment it was the Spy himself, the next it was Linlin. However, in the eyes of others, the Spy remained in Linlin’s form the entire time.
Linlin was now completely stunned. She had experienced too much in a single day, especially now—this man in black had actually turned into someone identical to her. For a moment, she didn't know what to say.
With Wei He’s permission, the White-Robed Man and the Spy disguised as Linlin walked out of the base and headed toward Riquan City.
