120: Wehrmacht withdrawal
“He isn't lying. He's my man now, and he wouldn't lie to me!” Wei He looked at Linlin, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, and said slowly.
“Ah, so he has also become your puppet. He looks so terrifying now; I don't think he'll survive the night!” Linlin looked at Yuri, her heart pounding, her eyes full of panic, and she subconsciously leaned closer to Wei He.
“It's fine. If I want him to live, he lives; if I want him to die, he cannot survive!” Wei He pursed his lips to the side, tapped his temple with his finger, and said leisurely, “Continue. Why does Grand Duke William want to kill me?”
Linlin watched the scene from the side, knowing what Wei He meant by ‘he can live.’ Thinking of that heaven-defying treasure flag pole, which could actually grant people the ability to recover health infinitely, it was truly miraculous.
“They just paid the World Destruction Alliance to kill you; they didn't say anything else. However, the World Destruction Alliance has quite a few informants within the Magic Empire. Emperor Alexander learned that you were fighting the demons on the front lines and were doing very well, so he wanted to hire someone to assassinate you, then frame the demons, and finally successfully take over your Red Alert Troops for his own use!” Zhang Yong blurted out everything he knew.
“Oh, no wonder. I have so many Spies in Laiseluo City, yet none of them knew about his plan to kill me. If they hadn't hired someone to kill me but used their own men, I would have known long ago!” Wei He crossed his arms, seemingly deep in thought, and said slowly.
“Then why didn't they kill you themselves? Do they already know there are Spies in the city?” Linlin tilted her head slightly and asked, looking at Wei He with a smile.
“Probably to distance themselves from it. Using their own people would make it too easy for others to figure it out. Hiring assassins means that even if they fail, it has nothing to do with them. They could just wipe out the assassin organization and destroy the evidence. Besides, if not for Yuri, it would be very difficult for us to know who was behind these shady dealings!” Wei He scratched the back of his head, his eyes darting around, and finally, seeming to have made up his mind, he walked toward Kongdi City.
“Hey, Wei He, you're just leaving? What about him? He's about to die, you know!” Linlin pointed at Zhang Yong and asked, looking at Wei He's back.
“Have a night hawk helicopter take him back to Nanshan Town and heal him at the Militia Training Center. He cannot die yet!” Wei He said as he walked.
“Understood, Commander!” the Red Alert Troops present said in unison.
In the Grand Generals Mansion of Kongdi City, Neme was resting on her bed when she was suddenly awakened by a series of knocks on the door. A maid outside said urgently, “General, the Lord has arrived and wants to see you right now!”
Neme was initially going to get angry, but upon hearing that Wei He had come, she hurriedly put on her clothes. It was the middle of the night, so something extremely urgent must have happened for him to visit in person, Neme thought to herself.
“Lord, is there something urgent? What brings you to the Grand Generals Mansion in the middle of the night?” Neme asked, adjusting her clothes as she entered the main hall, looking at Wei He with a grave expression.
“Nothing urgent. I just wanted to ask, are the battle reports from here reported to Laiseluo City every day?” Wei He asked with a blank expression and cold eyes.
“Oh, yes. Letters about the daily combat situation must be sent to Emperor Alexander. Hasn't it always been like this? Did something happen? Were the letters intercepted? Who is so bold as to intercept the Empire's letters?” Neme looked at Wei He's cold expression, froze in place, blinked, and asked with a puzzled look.
“In other words, they know everything about the situation here. So that's it. They are truly ruthless; they want to take over my troops and also want my life!” Wei He's gaze gradually began to harden.
“Wei He, what's wrong with you? What are you talking about? I don't understand. Did something happen to you? Do you need my help? Just tell me!” Neme was completely bewildered by Wei He's words, having no idea what he was talking about.
“My Red Alert Troops are withdrawing from the battlefield. From now on, you will have to defend Kongdi City on your own. I'm leaving!” Wei He stared at Neme for a long moment before saying decisively.
“Why? Haven't we been working together well? Besides, the demons haven't been completely defeated yet, and they haven't been driven out of the borders of the Magical Beast Empire. How can you withdraw at a time like this?” Neme looked at Wei He with eyes full of questions, as if struck by lightning upon hearing the news.
“Heh, it seems you really don't know anything. It's good that you don't know; at least I can rest easy knowing it wasn't you who wanted to kill me. This is your Emperor who flipped the table first, so you can't blame me. I'm leaving. If you need help with anything, you can come to me, but as for fighting the demons, forget it—you'll have to solve that yourselves.” After saying this, Wei He walked out without looking back.
“What? You mean the Emperor wants to kill you? How is that possible? You are a hero of the Magic Empire! You have meritorious service in fighting the demons; the Emperor wouldn't kill you. Are you under some kind of misunderstanding?” Neme shouted loudly behind Wei He, but Wei He walked out without saying a word.
“Hmph, a misunderstanding? If Zhang Yong hadn't been controlled by Yuri, his words might not be trustworthy. But he is controlled by Yuri and is now fiercely loyal to me; he couldn't possibly be lying to me!” Hearing Neme's shouts behind him, Wei He mocked inwardly as he walked.
The next morning, at Wei He's command, all Red Alert Troops at Kodo Beast Outpost and Kodo Beast Hills began to advance toward Nankang Golden Valley in the Lingshu Kingdom. Only one Spy in a suit was left in Kongdi City to follow Neme, facilitating contact between her and Wei He.
In the distant Southern Province of the Magic Empire, under Wei He's orders, Ravich took control of the entire Southern Province. After all, the main combat forces of the Southern Province had gone to the Magical Beast Empire to fight the demons, and none of those remaining were a match for Ravich. Moreover, he was acting under the orders of the Lord, Wei He, to take over the cities, so he did not encounter any resistance from a single soldier.
The only connection between the capital of the Magic Empire and the Southern Province was the Ande Valley. After receiving Wei He's orders, the Red Alert Troops in the Harsh Forest immediately rushed to the Ande Valley and completely blocked the entire valley. A company of American Soldiers was deployed on each side of the valley, holding M60 General Purpose Machine Guns, with their muzzles aimed at the only road leading in and out of the valley.
The anti-air tracked vehicles and multifunctional infantry vehicles were hidden in the mountain forests; one couldn't tell from above that there were armored vehicles below. Now, information from the Southern Province could not reach Laiseluo City at all.
“Since you are unrighteous, don't blame me for being unjust. Now all the tax revenue and all the heavenly materials and earthly treasures of the Southern Province are mine! Soon, the entire Magic Empire will be mine!” Wei He said with a fierce look in his eyes while sitting in an anti-air tracked vehicle heading toward Nankang Golden Valley.
In Suyan City of the Southern Province, City Lord Bartli looked at the parchment before him. Trembling with rage, he threw the parchment to the ground. His face twisted, his eyebrows arched high, and the fire in his eyes seemed ready to burst out as he said angrily, “This Wei He, he already took over the mines I painstakingly managed for years a few days ago. Considering he had just become an official, I didn't hold it against him. Now he is pushing his luck even further; he even wants to take over my Suyan City. Don't think that just because he became some kind of Lord, he can do whatever he wants. When it comes to being an official, he isn't even fit to carry my shoes. I have been in officialdom for decades; when have I ever been bullied like this? I will report this to the imperial court, I will go before Emperor Alexander, and I will denounce him. Hmph!”
