144: Chapter 144 Breaking Out of the Prison

"No, you can't leave! This is a prison break, you're just adding crime to crime! You'd better think this through!" The Jailer struggled to crawl up from the ground, putting on a righteous front. After all, the keys were handed over from his hands, and this happened during his shift. If they escaped, his job would be gone, and he might even spend the rest of his life in this very cell.

"Hmph, I'm leaving, and you can't stop me. So what if it's a prison break? This lady is breaking out, what are you going to do about it!" Looking at the Jailer's righteous expression, Chen Jiaojiao felt disgusted. One moment he wanted to assault her, and the next he was a righteous law enforcer. It was truly ironic.

"You can't! Guards! Someone's breaking out!" The Jailer began to shout loudly. At the same time, a flurry of footsteps from outside the prison started heading toward them.

"Hmph, let them come. I'll take care of all of you at once! No matter what, I'm leading my sisters out of here today!" Chen Jiaojiao's gaze gradually turned fierce. Her teeth ground together in anger, making a creaking sound that frightened the women beside her, causing them to retreat several steps.

"No escaping! Get back to your cells immediately! Think about the consequences of your actions!" The Jailers who rushed in drew their swords one after another. However, upon seeing that the one escaping was Chen Jiaojiao, they began to try and persuade her with kind words instead. They knew they were absolutely no match for a Mage.

"She... she... she's breaking out!" The Jailer clutching his crippled hand shouted loudly as he saw the many Jailers rushing in. The other Jailers understood what had happened as soon as they saw him. It must have been this Little Black Fatty, blinded by lust, who had offended this Mage. They all looked at him with disdain.

"That's enough, shut up. You must have caused this trouble, right?" a Jailer who looked like a Squad Leader barked sternly.

He then turned to Chen Jiaojiao and tried to persuade her gently, "We will definitely punish him severely. If you break out now, you'll never have another chance to clear your name!"

"Hmph, you foul men. I don't need you to clear my name. Whether I, Chen Jiaojiao, betrayed the Magic Empire before is no longer important, because today I am breaking ties with the Magic Empire completely! You are all a bunch of cowardly weaklings—whether it's Jacob, Emperor Alexander the Great, or you Jailers—I look down on all of you!" Chen Jiaojiao shouted angrily, her voice echoing through the prison for a long time.

Hearing her voice, the women in other cells also rushed to their bars. They reached out and shouted to Chen Jiaojiao, "Yes, Lady Warrior, you're absolutely right! Please, save us! These men only know how to bully women; they're all cowards!"

"Fine, I'll get you out right now!" Just as Chen Jiaojiao finished speaking, several electric arcs flowed over her hands. As the Jailers raised their swords and charged at her, she sent the current out in all directions. It struck the Jailers and the male prisoners, instantly charring their bodies black as they collapsed to the ground. Thick smoke and the smell of burning flesh filled the air.

"Great! Lady Warrior, well done! Thank you!" Loud applause and the sound of women sobbing erupted from the surrounding cells simultaneously. They had been oppressed for so long that they couldn't help but cry out.

"Lady Warrior, where should we go next?" After being rescued from their cells, the women gathered around Chen Jiaojiao, looking at her with confusion.

"Their reinforcements will be here soon. We have to leave this place immediately!" Chen Jiaojiao looked at the women and spoke with a serious expression.

"Alright, we'll follow your lead!" the women agreed, nodding one after another.

Chen Jiaojiao led them out of the prison and onto the streets. She had been pondering how to trick the city guards to get out of the city, as Laiseluo City was the capital. Even the gatekeepers were Mages; it would be impossible for her to lead so many people out on her own.

However, the scene on the streets completely shocked her. Fires were everywhere, and thick smoke billowed. While in the prison, they had thought the Jailers were just up to some nonsense, never imagining that the outside had become such a mess.

"What's happening? Why has the outside become like this?" the female prisoners exclaimed. This was not the Laiseluo City they knew.

"Never mind that! Sisters, while the fires are burning, the city gate security is bound to be lax. Let's get out of the city quickly!" Chen Jiaojiao shouted to the female prisoners, looking at the surrounding flames.

What she didn't know was that these fires had been set by Spies. They possessed the ability to disguise themselves, and after setting the fires, they disguised themselves as others. This had left the city Bailiffs unable to catch a single arsonist so far, forcing them to arrest ordinary citizens to pass off as bandits.

Chen Jiaojiao led them all the way to the city gate, only to find that even the gate was being engulfed by fire. A group of Government Troops was carrying buckets of water, constantly rushing toward the gate.

Chen Jiaojiao seized the opportunity. A circular blue Magic Array appeared before her, and bolts of lightning struck the Government Troops carrying buckets. Caught off guard, the soldiers were instantly knocked down. Chen Jiaojiao then casually fired another bolt of lightning, striking the burning city gate directly. The gate collapsed with a crash, and the group quickly fled the city.

Once they reached a forest outside the city, Chen Jiaojiao said to everyone, "Sisters, you're safe now. Hurry and run for your lives!"

"Lady Warrior, let's go together! It looks like we can't stay in this city anymore. Let's go somewhere else and start our lives anew!" The women looked at Chen Jiaojiao, their eyes full of pleading.

"No, I can't leave yet. I still have things to do. You go ahead; if there's a chance in the future, I'll come find you!" Chen Jiaojiao's gaze was exceptionally determined.

"Lady Warrior..." The women wanted to say more, but Chen Jiaojiao had already turned and walked back toward Laiseluo City. They could only sigh helplessly and leave that place of sorrow.

Chen Jiaojiao walked all the way back to the city gate and found that no pursuers had come out. She thought to herself, "It seems the Magic Empire really is doomed. I must find that traitor Jacob. Not for the Magic Empire, but for myself—I must kill him!"

Meanwhile, the Government Troops in the city were still busy fighting fires with buckets, with no spare manpower to worry about some escaped female prisoners. Thus, Chen Jiaojiao successfully sneaked back into Laiseluo City.

In the Laiselo Temple, the newly appointed Commander of the Imperial Guard knelt in the hall, trembling. Cold sweat poured from his forehead, soaking his clothes, but he didn't dare look up at Emperor Alexander.

Emperor Alexander looked at the gathered civil and military officials with a heavy expression. He spoke with a mix of confusion and self-reflection, "What is happening? Why has it come to this? First the granaries were on fire a couple of days ago, and now there are fires everywhere in the city. Could it be... could it be that the Empire is truly doomed?"

"Your Majesty, your servants have failed you. We deserve death. Please take care of your health, Your Majesty!" The officials all knelt on the ground and spoke in unison.

"Your Majesty, I will go to extinguish the fires now. Do not worry, Your Majesty; I will surely put them out. Please take care of your health and do not worry too much!" Grand Duke William said slowly, looking at Emperor Alexander with a heavy gaze.
