37: The person who wronged you knows better than anyone else that you are innocent.
In the Harsh Forest, Allied Forces buildings rose from the ground next to the Nuclear Power Plant: Allied Barracks, Allied War Factory, Allied Battle Lab... Wei He looked at these buildings, knowing this region was destined for constant turmoil. However, for future development and to return to Blue Star sooner, he had to occupy this place; he couldn't develop properly on the island.
As for Ravich, Wei He sent him back to the Magic Empire's station at Phoenix Mountain. After all, no one knew he was controlled by Wei He yet, so he could continue being his Army Formation Commander.
This way, he could receive any intelligence from the Magic Empire immediately.
Having temporarily concluded matters in the Harsh Forest, Wei He turned his attention back to Nankang Golden Valley. Lin Zhian, also known as "Plucking Feathers from a Passing Goose," had been quite melancholy lately, sitting alone and lonely in the main hall.
First, the mine was attacked, then the warships were destroyed, and following that, five of his Six Great Vajras had vanished without a trace. Now, even a lowly maidservant was gone. What on earth was happening?
"Wei He, it must be that fellow's doing! Ever since he arrived, the entire Nankang Golden Valley has become a foul mess!" Lin Zhian blamed everything on Wei He, yet failed to reflect on his own issues.
While Lin Zhian was grieving alone, the 200-plus White Armor Army soldiers controlled by Yuri in the Danga Archipelago began to move slowly.
A crescent moon hung in the night sky. Under the moonlight, Liu Banshan sat in his Captain's tent, drinking wine and eating roasted chicken alone. Rows of weapon racks lined both sides of the tent; the red tassels on the spears were covered in a thin layer of dust, and the silver scabbards of the waist sabers glinted coldly in the halo of the tallow candles.
Just as the footsteps of the patrolling soldiers outside passed, a low-ranking soldier stepped slowly into the tent.
"Captain, Lord Xie has requested your presence. He is hosting a banquet at Zhengxi Tower!" the soldier said respectfully.
"Lord Xie? What does he want with me? I understand!" Liu Banshan replied, his brow furrowed in confusion.
After the soldier withdrew from the tent.
"The Five Great Vajras have mysteriously disappeared, and now he's looking for me. He likely wants to win me over, and there might even be benefits, hehe!" Thinking of this, Liu Banshan couldn't help but laugh out loud with pride and strode out.
In front of Zhengxi Tower, the lamplight reflected on Liu Banshan's pockmarked face, which looked as if it had been stung by wild bees. His uneven teeth were exposed as he laughed.
"Lord Liu, please come inside!" The waiter came out to greet him with a sharp eye for guests.
"Where is Lord Xie? Hmm, hehe!" Although Liu Banshan was ugly, he was built like a bear. As he entered, the door creaked loudly from the impact.
"He's upstairs, my Lord. This way, please!" The waiter led the way, half-bowed.
"My Lord, it's right here!" The waiter turned and left after speaking.
Liu Banshan didn't pay it much mind and pushed the door open. He found the wine and food already prepared, but Xie Yanwen was nowhere to be seen.
Before Liu Banshan could react, two strangely dressed people entered the room. They wore grayish-black stealth magic robes, withered-leaf camouflage hats, magic-patterned gloves as thin as cicada wings, and soft-soled Scout boots. On their backs, they carried light magic wood. They were Scouts of the Magic Empire.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" Liu Banshan wasn't sober yet; he just thought the two men looked a bit strange.
"Lord Liu, our Army Formation Envoy sent us!" the two said, bowing respectfully.
"You are spies from the Magic Empire!" Liu Banshan realized what was happening and hurriedly shouted, "What are your intentions here? Guards!"
"Lord Liu, we were ordered to deliver something to you!" the two said, looking equally confused.
"Nonsense! I don't know your damn commander. Since you are spies from an enemy nation, don't even think about leaving!" A ruthless glint appeared in Liu Banshan's eyes.
"Seize them all!" During the standoff in the room, a squad of White Armor Soldiers leaped in, surrounding the three of them.
"What are you doing in a room with spies from the enemy nation? What business are you conducting?" Xie Yanwen strode in majestically.
"Big Brother Xie, it's me, Liu Banshan, a Captain of the White Armor Army!" Liu Banshan still tried to explain.
"I know who you are. Since you know you are a Captain, you shouldn't be here, and you certainly shouldn't be colluding with the enemy!" Xie Yanwen spoke with an air of righteous indignation, leaving Liu Banshan speechless for a moment.
"I don't know them! I just arrived, and they came in. Besides, didn't you invite me here?" Liu Banshan finally realized.
"Nonsense! When did I ever invite you?" Xie Yanwen said, his gaze incredibly firm.
"You... you're framing me on purpose!" Liu Banshan's eyes were full of disbelief.
"Framing? Then what is this?" Xie Yanwen took a box from the back of one of the Magic Empire Scouts.
"What is this? I don't know! They brought it; it has nothing to do with me!" Liu Banshan looked at the box in horror.
"This is a gift from our Envoy for Lord Liu!" one of the magic Scouts replied.
"I don't know any envoy! Big Brother Xie, you know me!" Liu Banshan now felt as if he had been caught red-handed; no matter what he said, he appeared guilty.
"We also have a personal letter from Lord Liu!" The other Scout pulled out a letter. It stated a willingness to reveal information to the Magic Empire in exchange for high office and a generous salary, and it even bore Liu Banshan's signature and seal.
"Enough. Seize them all and leave them for the Lord to decide!" Xie Yanwen said impartially.
Only then did Liu Banshan finally realize that Xie Yanwen was beginning to purge his opponents. From Xie's behavior just now, Liu knew that even if he saw the Lord, he would be dead.
If he surrendered now, he might be killed by them before he even got to see the Lord.
Thinking of this, Liu Banshan struck out at the approaching White Armor Soldier. In an instant, the soldier's helmet shattered, and blood flowed down his forehead, staining half his face red.
"Ah!" the soldier wailed in pain.
"You dare resist arrest! Seize him!" Although Xie Yanwen looked angry, he felt a sense of relief inside. Now, the fact of Liu's treason was truly cemented.
"Xie Yanwen, if you want to seize power for yourself, you didn't have to be so ruthless! I will definitely come back for you!" Liu Banshan was, after all, an Entry Level Ability User. He easily dealt with the ordinary soldiers rushing at him, kicked through the window in one step, and jumped down.
Liu Banshan reached the street and found it lined with soldiers. He knew he wouldn't escape this time, so he ran desperately toward Sun Fanshan's defense zone; Sun was one of his few good brothers.
"Hah!" Xie Yanwen shouted, leaping down from the building and quickly catching up to Liu Banshan.
"Surrender. If you are truly innocent, as long as you cooperate with our investigation to find the truth, the Lord will not kill you!" Xie Yanwen said, his eyebrows twitching as he put on an act.
"Hmph, save it. You planned all of this! Stop pretending, Xie Yanwen! Come on! Although I'm one level below you, I, Liu Banshan, am a man of integrity. I'd rather die standing than live on my knees!" Liu Banshan's eyes gradually grew crazed as he spoke in anger.
"In that case, come!" Xie Yanwen looked at him contemptuously, like a lion looking at a frail rabbit.
"Ya!" Liu Banshan used all his strength. He was a Metal-element ability user, and at this moment, he activated Golden Body Protection. His entire body shone with a golden light as he charged at Xie Yanwen.
