62: Take over the mine
Wei He's trip to the capital this time could be considered very fruitful. The only downside was that this was his first time serving as a lord in such a high position, and he truly didn't know what to do.
After all, previously, when serving as the Commander of the Red Alert Troops, they were all military units, and they were all soldiers loyal to him.
Now, he didn't know how to manage commoners. However, fortunately, there were not many cities within his jurisdiction. Since he didn't know how to manage them, he would leave it to those who could.
There were several mines in his jurisdiction, and this resource was exactly what Wei He was most lacking at the moment. Under Wei He's orders, Bozi Youning rode in an anti-air tracked vehicle, speeding all the way, departing from the Harsh Forest and heading towards the mines.
In the Suyan City mine, hundreds of miners were wearily swinging their tools. The supervising Magic Empire soldiers were holding whips, and if they saw anyone they didn't like, they would lash out with a whip, instantly leaving the miner's body lacerated and bleeding.
These miners not only received no wages, but even their food allowance had been embezzled by the mine's minor leader, Saul. Their meals were reduced from three a day to two, and instead of hearty food, it was just a bowl of soup plus a bit of some unknown mush, and that was it.
At this moment, Saul was lying in the manager's room, enjoying afternoon tea. Possessing regular features and a stunningly beautiful face, he sipped his tea while saying to the people around him: "These people are all honest folks from nearby villages, the most incompetent people. In my opinion, they are not even as good as murderers; they deserve to suffer here!"
"Well said, Big Brother. These lowly commoners wouldn't be a pity even if they died! Ah! Hahahaha!" the lackey beside him chimed in. This lackey had a cherry-red mouth, fair skin, sword-like eyebrows, and star-like eyes; he was a total pretty boy. Being able to maintain this appearance in such a place, one could imagine just how lazy and gluttonous he was.
Nile was a young man from a nearby village who had been tied up and sent here simply because he had offended a landlord.
At this moment, he was hammering at the stones, one hammer blow at a time. However, his eyes were darting around, watching the positions of the nearby guards. In a little while, these guards would return to the room to rest, leaving only two people to watch them. This was his chance to escape.
Finally, he waited for this opportunity. He swung his hammer and smashed it heavily onto the head of one of the guards from behind.
With an "Ah!" sound, one guard fell to the ground, wailing while covered in blood. The other guard saw the scene and immediately shouted loudly.
"Someone is rebelling! Big Brother, Big Brother, come quickly!" The guard chased after Nile while shouting.
Nile, the moment he succeeded, had already thrown away the hammer and was running desperately towards the outside of the mine.
After hearing the news, Saul, who was in the manager's room, grabbed a knife and rushed out. The group of lackeys behind him also grabbed their weapons and ran out.
"Little thing, you can't run away! Come back here immediately, or I'll kill your whole family!" Saul brandished his steel knife and shouted.
Nile looked back once and continued running towards the forest, because he was the only one left in his family.
Just at this moment, several anti-air tracked vehicles smashed through the gate and charged directly into the mine. Saul, who was still chasing Nile behind the mine, saw several steel beasts he had never seen before violently rushing into his territory, and his mind went blank.
"Big Brother, Big Brother, what should we do? Should we still chase him?" The lackey beside him also saw this scene and, looking at Saul's dazed expression, asked anxiously.
"Ah! Go, go, let's go down and see!" Saul said, feigning calmness. After all, he was a Magic Empire soldier, part of the regular establishment; no matter who it was, if they killed him, they would be hunted down by the Empire.
A group of Bozi Youning stepped down from the anti-air tracked vehicles, strode to the center of the mine, and shouted: "Who is in charge here? Get out here immediately!"
Wei He knew a thing or two about the mine here. They enslaved the commoners and forced them into labor. Previously, Wei He had been busy with battles and hadn't been able to spare the time to deal with them. Now that he finally had the chance, that was why Bozi Youning shouted so arrogantly.
"This is my territory. I am Saul, a squad leader under Lord Bartli of Suyan City in the Magic Empire. Who are you? What are you doing here?" Saul declared his identity while walking towards Bozi Youning.
"We are acting under the orders of Lord Wei He, the Lord of Harsh Forest, to take over this mine. You can leave now; this is my territory now!" Bozi Youning said slowly, his eyes coldly looking at Saul, as if looking at a corpse.
"We haven't received this order, so you cannot take over this place yet. We only listen to the orders of Lord Bartli!" Saul naturally knew of this Wei He. The entire Magic Empire knew that not long ago, Emperor Alexander had just appointed a new lord, and this lord's jurisdiction happened to include Suyan City. However, without Lord Bartli's orders, it was impossible for him to withdraw from the mine.
"How bold! Wei He is a lord appointed by the Magic Empire. Even your so-called City Lord must obey his orders. You actually dare to openly defy them. You have only two choices: either get out of the mine now, or be dealt with for disobeying military orders!" Bozi Youning said sternly, his hand holding the ppsh-41 submachine gun slowly tightening. As soon as Wei He gave the order, he would open fire immediately.
"What you say is useless. I need to ask Lord Bartli before I can give you an answer!" Saul said with an indifferent look, then winked at the person beside him. A lackey turned and ran towards Suyan City.
No matter what the other party did before, now they were all soldiers of the Magic Empire, so what could they do? That was what Saul was thinking. Unfortunately, this time, his thinking was wrong, and it was dead wrong.
"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!..." Several gunshots rang out. Saul fell to the ground, clutching his thigh and wailing. Several other lackeys wanted to step forward but were riddled with bloody holes by Bozi Youning using the ppsh-41 submachine gun. Compared to them, Saul was lucky. The other lackeys, who had originally wanted to rush over, saw this scene and also lowered their heads one after another.
"Put down the steel knives and whips in your hands. These are resources of the mine, and you cannot take them away!" Bozi Youning continued.
This time, these soldier-ruffians were very cooperative and put down their weapons one after another. After all, they had just witnessed the terrifying nature of Bozi Youning with their own eyes.
And those miners also stopped their work, their eyes wide, watching the scene unfolding before them in disbelief.
"You, you, and you, come here!" Bozi Youning pointed at a few miners who were close by and said condescendingly.
"Master, we haven't been slacking off. We have been working very hard, hehe!" Several miners knelt in front of Bozi Youning and said fawningly.
"You few, go and pick up their steel knives and whips. Watch them mine and crack stones. If they work slowly, lash them with the whips. If they dare to run, cut them down with the steel knives!" Bozi Youning's words made the miners tremble, and they stood there stunned.
"Have you forgotten how they tortured you and enslaved you?" Bozi Youning's voice sounded again.
"Yes, yes, as you command, Great Master!" The miners' eyes shone with light. Thinking of all the injustices and hardships they had encountered before, they finally picked up the steel knives and whips.
The miners, several of them, held steel knives in their left hands and whips in their right, looking at these former managers on the ground, and walked slowly towards them.
