87: Head to the Demon's Lair
"As for Carlos's location, it's right in the Demon Lair. I've already scouted the location of the Demon Lair very clearly!" Wei He said with a look of pride.
"Impossible, Carlos would not betray the Magic Empire. Are you lying?" Neme was unwilling to believe what Wei He said, speaking blankly.
"It's meaningless for you to argue here. Anyway, when we assemble the grand army tomorrow to wipe out the Demon invaders, we'll know his whereabouts!" Wei He said slowly.
"Based only on your word, how can I believe you? Besides, you're a wretched villain who peeks at women bathing!" Neme stared straight at Wei He, her eyes filled with suspicion.
"If you don't believe me, come with me tonight to investigate. How about it? Do you dare?" Wei He's eyes revealed a provocative look, and he spoke arrogantly.
"You, you're not planning something crooked, are you! I'm telling you, I'm a Magister-level magician. If you dare to try anything, I'll make sure you die without a place to be buried, understand?" Neme still looked at Wei He with a face full of disgust.
"If you don't dare, then forget it. Some magician you are, some general you are—just a coward. Sigh, I'm leaving!" After saying this, Wei He made a show of walking toward the door.
"Wait, who says I don't dare? We'll meet at the city gate at the third quarter of the hour of the Rat. I want to see what tricks you have up your sleeve. If there's a single lie, I'll cripple you and send you into the palace!" Neme called out to Wei He, speaking fiercely.
"Fine, then be there or be square! See you later!" Hearing Neme's words, Wei He suddenly felt a chill in his groin. He dropped a sentence and hurriedly left.
Under the moonlight at the south gate of Kongdi City, Wei He stood quietly by the gate, looking calm and composed, waiting for Neme's arrival.
Finally, after a long time, Neme arrived late.
"Oh, I thought you weren't coming. It's already past the third quarter. Are you afraid of seeing Carlos turned into a traitor, so you didn't dare to come?" Seeing Neme arrive, Wei He complained greatly.
"That's not it. I'm a girl; isn't it normal for you to wait a little longer?" Although Neme said this, she indeed had such concerns before setting out.
Carlos was a hero of the Magic Empire and had served in the Magic Empire for decades. If even he had become a traitor, how could she explain it to His Majesty? Furthermore, if the news spread, it would disrupt military morale. However, in the end, she decided to go and see for herself. If Wei He was really lying, she would definitely not let him off.
"Alright, alright, let's go quickly, or else the sun will be up in a moment!" Wei He urged Neme anxiously.
"Hey, you didn't prepare a carriage? Are we going to walk?" Neme pouted and looked at Wei He, her eyes seemingly filled with the thought that Wei He was unreliable.
"Let's go. You'll know once we're out of the city gate!" Wei He took the lead and walked out of the city gate. Seeing this, Neme didn't say anything and followed quickly, wanting to see what trick Wei He was playing.
After the two walked out of the city gate, a night hawk helicopter was quietly waiting there for them.
"What is this? Why do you always have these strange things?" Neme looked at the dark, odd-looking thing in front of her and asked Wei He in confusion.
"This is called a night hawk helicopter. I know you can fly, but I can't. Come on, let's go together!" Wei He was the first to pull open the cabin door and said to Neme.
Seeing Wei He crawl into the night hawk helicopter, Neme followed suit and sat in it, not wanting to let this little thief Wei He laugh at her.
The two of them took the night hawk helicopter and flew toward the Demon Lair under the cover of moonlight.
The night hawk helicopter crossed the Dark Forest and landed in a desolate area.
"Wei He, why did you bring me here? Is this the Demon Lair you mentioned? Is this where the traitor Carlos is?" Neme stepped off the night hawk helicopter and questioned Wei He upon seeing nothing but yellow earth everywhere.
"Shh, don't talk. Follow me!" Wei He said softly to Neme.
Seeing Wei He's serious manner, Neme followed him forward until they reached the edge of a huge ground fissure.
"I've scouted this place long ago; there's nothing here. Why did you bring me here?" Neme said irritably. This Wei He was indeed playing with her.
"It's not that I want to criticize you, but you need to pay attention to details. When you scouted here, did you just see a ground fissure and go back? Did you go down to investigate?" Wei He looked at Neme speechlessly.
"Do you know that for this invasion of the Magical Beast Empire, the Demon Race mobilized a full army of hundreds of thousands? Can this fissure fit an army of hundreds of thousands? You're simply too ridiculous. I actually believed the words of a pervert like you. I should push you down from here right now, humph!" Neme stood with her hands on her hips, staring fiercely at Wei He. Because she was angry, she was panting heavily, her chest rising and falling with her breath, which made Wei He's heart skip a beat.
"Hmph, come and see for yourself. What is that?" Wei He pointed to the bottom of the ground fissure.
"I'll just see how long you can keep pretending." Just after Neme said this, under the moonlight, she saw the Demon Soldiers below the ground fissure walking back and forth.
These two Demon Soldiers were none other than Spies disguised as Demon Soldiers; Wei He had ordered them to walk around. After all, real Demon Soldiers are extremely rigorous and wouldn't swagger around at the bottom of the fissure.
Seeing that Neme had spotted the Demon Soldiers, Wei He ordered the Spy Demon Soldiers to walk back into the Demon Lair.
"Hey, look, those two Demon Soldiers have disappeared. What's going on?" Neme asked Wei He with a look of confusion.
"There are many Demon Lairs down here, each very large, stretching for miles underground. If I remember correctly, the Demon Race likes the dark and can see in the dark as if it were day. Hiding in this Lair, they are quite comfortable. Moreover, they usually have strict discipline, so if you don't go down to check during your scouting, you won't find them!" Wei He explained patiently to Neme.
"Since you know they're here, why haven't you wiped them out? Don't tell me your troops don't have the strength?" Neme said, pretending to be puzzled.
"They have an army of hundreds of thousands. The moment I got the news, I naturally reported it to you, Great General. This credit, of course, belongs to you!" The corners of Wei He's mouth curled up slightly as he spoke with a smile.
Wei He knew, and Neme knew too, that Wei He's Red Alert Troops had the strength to deal with the Demon Race army in the ground fissure. But all of this was just Emperor Alexander the Great's calculation. He wanted to use Wei He to wipe out the Demon Race army, or use the Demon Race army to wipe out Wei He. Wei He would not let him succeed in this scheme no matter what.
"Assemble the grand army tomorrow and come here to finish them off directly. Your promotion and rank increase are just around the corner, Great General! Ah, hahahahaha!" Wei He looked at Neme, hoping the Magic Empire would send troops, or at least a joint force, so the Red Alert Troops wouldn't be the only ones being consumed.
"What about the Carlos you mentioned? Didn't you say Carlos defected? Where is he? If he's not here, you're slandering a court official and disrupting military morale. I can petition His Majesty to at least sentence you to beheading!" Neme looked at Wei He triumphantly.
